Adding More Owlbears to the AP

I just finished RRR, and it feels like a running joke has been established with all the owlbears we have met to this point. The players have speculated that there will be an even bigger owlbear in the next book, and then a swarm of owlbears in the book after that.

Sadly, the next three books are distressingly owlbear-free. The last book does have those wonderful flying owlbears, but I feel bad leaving my players in suspense so long. It feels like they deserve at least one scene with owlbears in each book.

So -- what are your ideas? Where would you add owlbears to VVV, R4R, and WotRK?

VV - replace some of the dread zombie cyclopes with dread zombie owlbears

BfB - change the chimeras (map location I) to have dragon, bear, and owl heads (instead of the standard dragon, lion, and goat)

WotRK - replace some of Pitax heralds or wardens in the Whiterose Abbey with owlbears under control of Gaetane, perhaps (increasing his ranks in Handle Animal, reducing ranks in Climb and/or Survival)

I recall a thread somewhere on this forum where they discussed what amounts to a kaiju owlbear, something so big the PC's had to climb it to fight it. :-)

Have fun with templates. Perhaps a half-dragon owlbear has taken up residence in the dragon den in VV? Maybe the pixie/direwolf combo in B4B has captured a fey owlbear as muscle? Lots of possibilities.

Yes, I remember it too.

Here it is!

There's always room for more Owlbears!

Found it. Overwhelm your players with miniature owlbears. For added fun, restat the tiny owlbears as a swarm.

As ever, Pennywit has a great suggestion in the tiny owlbear swarm. Though having tiny owlbear swarms crawling around the Kaiju owlbear like lice could be fun too...

One of my characters has a soft cuddly owlbear that she sleep with at night :)

Currently she is a bit miffed because the second group met (and killed) a real owlbear before she did :)

My group killed so many owlbears and sold their pelt (?) that in the end prices for it dropped to a mere 5gp and a whole bunch of trappers were very upset...

When I ran it, I had the characters run into everyone's favorite kobold tribe bringing home an owlbear egg. After the players (players, not characters) recovered from their heartattacks, the characters followed the kobolds tracks back to the owlbear nest and they killed both the mother and father owlbear before they could track the egg snatchers down.

Add variety to your owlbears; use some snowy-owlbears, screach-owlbears, burrowing-owlbears, great horned-owlbears, eagle-owlbears, clockwork-owlbears and others with different abilities.
