Hope he can take a joke... if we are both chosen ;)

He can if it's funny. :P

Heh heh heh heh

@ zerceses
I usually play it as "you use crafting checks to create actual items, while profession is both a scope of knowledge and a way to use skills to earn money."

So, one with a high brewer profession but no crafting alchemy skills could be explained as a very skilled shop assistant who knows ways to preserve alchemical components, tidy the shop, maybe a few regulations, but doesn't actually know much about the alchemical process.

For actual making of alcoholic beverages, a high profession is fine for what you want, but adding a little craft alchemy could lead to more exotic tastes and effects.

Lia Neve, Sorceror(Draconic, White)
I do actually intend to have her hire a manservant, or start with one. Probably someone to counter her flights of fancy and be the reasonable voice to some of her more far-fetched aspirations. Perhaps someone that was surreptitiously placed by her father to (attempt to) keep her in check, or at the very least, keep correspondence back to the family, as Lia would probably forget sometimes. I'm just torn between the "You're a brat, but you're paying me" attitude, or the "'Yes, ma'am.' servant that is inwardly shaking their head, but going along with the requests, provided that they aren't too outlandish". So many options!

Fluff:
In the land of nobles, titles dictated what one could and could not own. The pursuits of the Bearded were often frivolous and time-consuming to her, which can be tiring for some that are heeding the call of other prerogatives. In Lia's case, the title that she held was more lip-service than anything else, but she did love the privileges that came from the status. Her family sponsored several libraries, and as a result, Lia was apprenticed there for her childhood. That suited her just fine, since she found worlds of information on places beyond Cassomir, and courtly functions were so tedious!

While apprenticed, she often found herself drawn to stories of the snowy north, enamored with the description of the fields of snow, white and glistening, or blinding in the right light. Something about the discussions of the blustery weather, evergreen trees, and the landscape felt right. The winters in Cassomir were her favorite time, and the thought of a land of winter struck a romantic chord with her. Her father remarked once that she had "her mother's blood", and that it reminded him of her so much when she would play in the snow-- when it would fall.

She was aware that her life was leading her towards the "spoiled princess" lifestyle, and rather than accept that whole-heartedly (she did like being pampered though), she decided to prove to herself that she was not what she heard the courtiers whispering behind her back! It could not be that hard, right? So, she began traveling, not to be dissuaded by however difficult that some had said it was. She was a Neve!

Under the guise of finding books for her family's libraries, she took to finding stories. When there was none to be found, she did what she could to talk to the wise ones, jotting their stories down in a journal. A little decadence would have been appreciated, and she did make it a point to reward herself whenever she could, and especially after getting a really fantastic story!

Of course, having to negotiate with unsavory people was something that she had not counted on, and servants made so many things better, she was finding. At least she had one of her own, magicked though it may be. In time, she would get her own manservant when she had earned the money or prestige. Maybe at the next stop she would hire one... Anyway, the colder the weather was, the better she felt, so she kept at it.

@Me'mori: What an interesting character concept! Somehow I foresee snowball fights XD

@zerceses: Oh I'm sure we'll have a delightful cast of interesting characters for us to play with the dynamics of. And thanks for the praise on my backstory x3 I worked very hard on it.

Mahk has been accepted into another campaign, and I really only want to participate in one campaign as a player, so he is withdrawing from this one.

Good Luck and Good Gaming to All.

If Path of War is available, I would like to submitmy halfling Warlord - Kennen

Reference - It's all there under path of war including the archetype and martial tradition.

He's modeled after Master Sifu from Kungfu Panda. I intend to pick up some of the really fun veiled moon movement abilities and move around the battle field, disabling opponents and flanking. Decently good at stealth and flanking too. Needs a little work but the back story is the same.

You'll find references to a brother named Korlan. He had been built as level 9 at one point and I'd taken Leadership to add a brawler halfing to complement his skills and use teamwork feats. It was a fun concept but didn't get chosen.

So, I have her crunch mostly done, and I've decided to go about this a bit differently than I had originally planned for a few reasons. Mostly what it boils down to is that I could make her more effective in combat and it gives a way for the GM to help me explore the themes that this character is based off of, struggle, prejudice, and determination.

The fact that it let me indulge in giving her one of my favorite weapons in pathfinder is just icing on the cake. :)

I'm still working on her background, but that is going to take a bit, and I'd rather get some feedback before I chug out 6000 words (No, I am not joking.)

Kalisuel's Background, Cliffnotes Version:

-Kalisuel is the last surviving member of a Chelish noble house that was purged when it was discovered that they were actually worshippers of a Demon Lord (need to pick one, or I could leave that to the GM.)

-One of the Hellknights that raided her parent's estate found her hidden by the body of her mother and in seeing her is reminded of his daughter that was killed. This causes him to show mercy and spare the child. Since this is Cheliax, where the SOP is Kill them all and collateral damage be damned, he has to desert. He dies a month later to cover the escape of a couple of Bellflower (or is it Belltower, need to look that up) operatives that take her and put her in an orphanage in Kaer Maga

-She spends her childhood being bounced from one place after another, basically little more than a slave for most of her caretakers. She just bears it for the most part, but a stroke of luck has her meeting an old Iomedaean cleric that takes her in and teaches her to defend herself and the tenets of the faith.

-Her mentor dies, and the monastery he belonged to wastes no time in kicking her out.

-She spends the next several years traveling with various caravans all over Varisia. Whenever something bad happens, the blame is normally laid at her feet and she's either kicked out or run out of the caravan. Things are especially bad in Korvosa and Magnimar.

-Along the way, she learns several languages and acquires most of her gear. To say that most of it is old, worn, and in rough shape is an understatement. The newest thing she owns, save her sketching supplies, is her clothing and it is at least fifteen years old, if not more.

-She's currently with a caravan heading to wherever the first adventure is.

Any feedback is welcome. I do plan on typing this all out in a way that's very interesting. I'm just not going to get it done tonight.

Path of war is available to use, just don't go too crazy. About the leadership feat, is this an eventual thing or part of the character concept that plays as two characters. And how vital is this companion to this character build?

Background:

Born to a pair of serfs, Calathes was abandoned by them at birth since they just could not afford to raise him. Forced to live out in the wilderness, Calathes learned to survive, but the malnutrition left him with a slender body even for his own kind and a lack of any real strength. Living in the wild for his developmental years left Calathes a wild mess, but also left him with an incredible tenacity and drive to survive.

Things changed for him in his 12 year of life when he was found by a wandering priest of Pharasma. The man took him under his wing and helped Calathes develop some semblance of social skills. In fact, he could be downright charming, when he chose to speak. But where his true interests lay were in the worship of Pharasma, who, in his mind, had ensured that he had a chance to survive and meet his true fate later on in life. He always felt a debt to her, in that regard, which was why he always felt as though she was talking back to him when he prayed.

Over time, the pair travelled far and wise and Calathes grew to enjoy the study of history as well, for there was little else for a young boy of Cal's age to do at that time when serving with a priest. He was aided by the female voice in his mind, which told him her name was Daena. They grew closer, and closer, until the day of the earthquake. The massive rent in the earth separated Cal and his mentor, Vaddyn, for many years, and left them off seeking one another and generally working to best serve their goddess.

But on that day, something else changed, and Cal's connection with Daena grew, strong enough that he could call her down from the planes beyond. They grew closer, and she helped him to learn more about his gifts and the use of some basic magic. Cal learned that Daena was a Psychopomp of Pharasma, sent to help Cal achieve his fate in life, to be an instrument against the undead, just as Daena was.

They wandered for many years, until one more fateful day, the day they came to Averlorn. The day the population of that small town went from 50 to 2. The two survivors said that a wild looking half-elf and his tall, lanky, creature slaughtered everyone without provocation. The truth was not quite as it seemed, but the news spread like wildfire and soon, Cal could not use his real name, and even took to keeping more withdrawn than before, lest someone recognize him as the Butcher of Averlorn.

Well, I hope that helps put me in a good position to play with you all. Lemme know what you think about the backstory.

Re: Tiefling Resistances - I know, but I didn't know if you wanted to say which one or were going to let me chose.

Re: The Cliffnotes - Thanks, I hope you enjoy the full version once I have it written out.

I do realize that I've missed the Feats, Racial qualities, and did not note that Skill Focus was Perception on the sheet. I was challenging myself to get a character out in the span of the "Edit" timer on the post. Since she's from the cold north, I think I'm going to change her bloodline to "Linnorm", though.

Given that she has one feat, I am currently considering how best to convey the "Noble" angle of her heritage. Perhaps the "Noble" and "Heirloom Weapon" trait, with the Arcane Armor training feat? She's read enough stories to not go out there unprepared, and image helps a lot.

Huh.. more things to consider. I am liking her persona, though.

Crazy? No. Crazy Awesome? I hope. 1d2+1d6 damage at first level. Can't even get Deadly Agility until level 3. No worries. Also, no, don't plan to use leadership. That was just because of the high starting point of the game. He'd be really weak until his brother was added or someone else decided to take teamwork feats. Was trying to avoid confusion but failed it seems.

@AdamWarnock: I am really tempted to submit a favorite of mine in place of Kennen. A half-elf that is equally jaded by life based a little off Jarlaxle from the Drizzt series. He's int and knowledge based ranged character which would pair well with a fighter.

@ Srota
I would recommend that you stat out you eidolon as well. And I tentatively allow summoner submissions on some house rules. One of which is that you cannot change evolution points once set, or at least every few levels or so, not every level.

@ Zayne
Gotcha, just wanted to double check. You are allowed to switch submissions. Just alert me of the official change, which one you're recalling, and the one taking its place.

Actually, I think I will. There is already a halfling fighter and a brawler. To set myself apart I will submit Owl. The build is all wonky but the backstory is mostly the same. I recently discovered something neat that might fit him well too. Investigator Psychic Detective. Trade Alchemy for Psychic spells with bard progression. The flavor on this archetype is too good to pass up.

Okay, that makes sense to me, though that does make 2-point evolutions or higher impossible to obtain, since points cannot be saved for the summoner's pool.

As for the Eidolon, the stats are as follows:

Daena
Gender: Female

If he allows you to modify every few levels rather than every level then you should be able to get 4-point evolution eventually.

@DM: Are those houserules pre- or post- Unchained? If he is using unchained then that should have nerfed summoner considerably.

True true, plus there is extra evolution as a feat, and psychopomps get an extra point at level 8, if I remember rightly. Also, it is an Unchained Summoner, not the traditional one. I much prefer running the unchained version, as I feel like the original summoner class can steal the spotlight from other players in every respect.

Mostly done with the rebuild. Might buy a few more things and still need some languages. Never sure what to pick for those.

Wow we are getting a lot of submissions now o.o

I wouldn't say she's jaded, it's more of a weariness. Haven't read Owl's background yet, but I foresee some pretty funny possibilities just based on your description here. Jarlaxle is my favorite drow character from that series, and I'd enjoy seeing how Kalisuel and Owl play off each other. I've only got a nebulous idea of her personality at the moment, but I do know that I want her to be one of those people that just is and anyone who doesn't like it can deal.

That said, I've got my work cut out for me. It'll probably be the weekend before I get her background done.

DM, is the rough sheet and fluff I provided enough for the character to be considered, with the rest of the minutiae to be completed if the character is confirmed?

@ Zayne
Noted. But you might want to fix the sections that still mention bard, like the quick reference line.

@ Srota
This was initially implented pre-unchained and was kept around mainly to give the eidolon some sort of consistency that archetypes helped with. Depending on pacing, I usually let the summoner change all points every 3-4 levels or so, so essentially, at the end of a module usually.

I am willing to compromise, but if accepted I want to be sure that the eidolon doesn't make anyone fell inferior.

@ Me'mori
I would prefer a more completed crunch as if I have questions or want to compare something then it puts it on me to go find that information. The fluff seems alright enough.

However, the usually rule of thumb is the more effort is better for me, but don't burn yourself out.

Description:
A young looking man with slightly pointed ears, and an
amused smile. He stands at 5'10", with long black hair pulled back
into a ponytail. He has the outline of a well kept beard, shortened that
outlines his jaw, to a short goatee. Bright green eyes take in his surroundings
as he eagerly and confidently greets any who he crosses. Around his neck dangles
a silver symbol of Iomedea.

Personality:
Ezro is a younger half-elf and confident in his own path
through life. He is loyal to death towards his friends, and will endanger his own
well being to help those in need. A devout believer and cleric of Iomedea, he
always holds a prayer to her on his lips, but happily replaces it with a mug
of mead with friends.

Background:

I'm still considering how to portray her Servant/Porter/Attendant. Their services are not difficult to buy, so it is more the "who they are" aspect. Given her family's home is in Northern Varisia, perhaps they are one of the "strength in practicality" types, perhaps a transplant or of Ulfen descent, from one of the families that worked closely with hers. Not a lifelong friend, but certainly someone in her family's service for more than a decade.
There is no intent to turn them into a follower with Leadership.

Lia Neve (Fluff):

Well, seeing how a healing/support character would be more useful, let's stick with Zarec as my submission.

But if you have the time, please check out Vyctorus, and tell me what you think as a character.

It's never safe being a human. Everyone hates them. ;)

It looks like the group I'm listed with is mostly human so I'll stick with Half-Elf thanks. :)

Is recruitment still open?

Thinking catfolk ninja... using the catbuglar archtype replacements for uncanny dodges

Working on everything else...

@ The Wakally
Uh...I'm gonna be honest. I don't know if this class is balanced, or the risks of becoming overpowered. If you decide to go with the Mighty Godling character, the best I can give you if selected is you are subject to balance changes if you start acting like a god more than a man.

@ Nighmoon
Recruitment is open until the first. You are free to make changes and switch submissions until then

Thanks for the heads up,
Here is my stuff for now... save for traits.

Base stats:

HP:9/9
AC:17=10+(3dex,4armor)
BAB:+0
Fort:+1 Relf:+5 Will:-1
CMB:+2
CMD:16

Racial Traits:

+2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, –2 Wisdom: Catfolk are sociable and agile, but often lack common sense.

Catfolk: Catfolk are humanoids with the catfolk subtype.

Medium: Catfolk are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Normal Speed: Catfolk have a base speed of 30 feet.

Scent: Some catfolk favor a keen sense of smell over sensitive sight. Catfolk with this racial trait gain the scent ability. This racial trait replaces the low-light vision racial trait.

Cat's Luck (Ex): Once per day when a catfolk makes a Reflex saving throw, he can roll the saving throw twice and take the better result. He must decide to use this ability before the saving throw is attempted.

Natural Hunter: Catfolk receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception, Stealth, and Survival checks.

Climber: Catfolk hunters excel at hunting prey from trees and other high vantage points. Catfolk with this racial trait possess a climb speed of 20 feet (along with the +8 racial bonus on Climb checks a climb speed affords). This racial trait replaces sprinter.

Languages: Catfolk begin play speaking Common and Catfolk. Catfolk with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following languages: Elven, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Halfling, Orc, and Sylvan.

Class traits:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Ninja are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the kama, katana, kusarigama, nunchaku, sai, shortbow, short sword, shuriken, siangham, and wakizashi. They are proficient with light armor but not with shields.

Poison Use: At 1st level, a ninja is trained in the use of poison and cannot accidentally poison herself when applying poison to a weapon.

Sneak Attack: If a ninja can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from her attack, she can strike a vital spot for extra damage.

The ninja's attacks deal extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the ninja flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and increases by 1d6 every two ninja levels thereafter. Bonus damage from sneak attacks is precision damage. Should the ninja score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this precision damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.

With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (such as a sap, whip, or unarmed strike), a ninja can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, even with the usual –4 penalty.

The ninja must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot, and must be able to reach this spot. A ninja cannot sneak attack while striking a creature that has concealment.

Ki Pool (Su): At 2nd level, a ninja gains a pool of ki points, supernatural energy she can use to accomplish amazing feats. The number of points in the ninja's ki pool is equal to 1/2 her ninja level + her Charisma modifier. As long as she has at least 1 point in her ki pool, she treats any Acrobatics skill check made to jump as if she had a running start. At 10th level, she also reduces the DC of Acrobatics skill checks made to jump by 1/2 (although she still cannot move farther than her speed allows).

By spending 1 point from her ki pool, a ninja can make one additional attack at her highest attack bonus, but she can do so only when making a full attack. In addition, she can spend 1 point to increase her speed by 20 feet for 1 round. Finally, a ninja can spend 1 point from her ki pool to give herself a +4 insight bonus on Stealth checks for 1 round. Each of these powers is activated as a swift action. A ninja can gain additional powers that consume points from her ki pool by selecting certain ninja tricks.

The ki pool is replenished each morning after 8 hours of rest or meditation; these hours do not need to be consecutive. If the ninja possesses levels in another class that grants points to a ki pool, ninja levels stack with the levels of that class to determine the total number of ki points in the combined pool, but only one ability score modifier is added to the total. The choice of which score to use is made when the second class ability is gained, and once made, the choice is set. The ninja can now use ki points from this pool to power the abilities of every class she possesses that grants a ki pool.

Ninja Tricks: As a ninja continues her training, she learns a number of tricks that allow her to confuse her foes and grant her supernatural abilities. Starting at 2nd level, a ninja gains one ninja trick. She gains one additional ninja trick for every 2 levels attained after 2nd. Unless otherwise noted, a ninja cannot select an individual ninja trick more than once.

Tricks marked with an asterisk (*) add effects to a ninja's sneak attack. Only one of these tricks can be applied to an individual attack and the decision must be made before the attack is made.

No Trace (Ex): At 3rd level, a ninja learns to cover her tracks, remain hidden, and conceal her presence. The DC to track a ninja using the Survival skill increases by +1. In addition, her training gives her a +1 insight bonus on Disguise skill checks and on opposed Stealth checks whenever she is stationary and does not take any action for at least 1 round. Every three levels thereafter, the increase to Survival DCs and the bonuses on Disguise and opposed Stealth checks increase by 1.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex): Starting at 4th level, a ninja can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does she lose her Dexterity bonus to AC if the attacker is invisible. She still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. A ninja with this ability can still lose her Dexterity bonus to AC if an opponent successfully uses the feint action against her.

If a ninja already possesses uncanny dodge from a different class, she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge instead.

Light Steps (Ex): At 6th level, a ninja learns to move while barely touching the surface underneath her. As a full-round action, she can move up to twice her speed, ignoring difficult terrain. While moving in this way, any surface will support her, no matter how much she weighs. This allows her to move across water, lava, or even the thinnest tree branches. She must end her move on a surface that can support her normally. She cannot move across air in this way, nor can she walk up walls or other vertical surfaces. When moving in this way, she does not take damage from surfaces or hazards that react to being touched, such as lava or caltrops, nor does she need to make Acrobatics checks to avoid falling on slippery or rough surfaces. Finally, when using light steps, the ninja ignores any mechanical traps that use a location-based trigger.

Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 8th level, a ninja can no longer be flanked. This defense denies another ninja (or rogue) the ability to sneak attack the ninja by flanking her, unless the attacker has at least four more ninja (or rogue) levels than the target does.

If a character already has uncanny dodge from another class, the levels from the classes that grant uncanny dodge stack when determining the minimum ninja (or rogue) level required to flank the character.

Master Tricks: At 10th level, and every two levels thereafter, a ninja can select one of the following master tricks in place of a ninja trick

Hidden Master (Su): At 20th level, a ninja becomes a true master of her art. She can, as a standard action, cast greater invisibility on herself. While invisible in this way, she cannot be detected by any means, and not even invisibility purge, see invisibility, and true seeing can reveal her. She uses her ninja level as her caster level for this ability. Using this ability consumes 3 ki points from her ki pool. In addition, whenever the ninja deals sneak attack damage, she can sacrifice additional damage dice to apply a penalty to one ability score of the target equal to the number of dice sacrificed for 1 minute. This penalty does not stack with itself and cannot reduce an ability score below 1.

Miro, aka "shadepelt", is short for a catfolk(4'9"), and has used her size to her advantage. She is lean and well built. Her fur is a dark grey, almost black. Her eyes are a bright blue.
She has devoted herself to perfecting the arts of stealth, teivery, and assassination. In order to do so she has learned how to extract poisons from several plants, as well as the anatomy of living creatures so that she can deliver the killing blow far more swiftly.

Those who know her say she is quiet, disaplined, and harsh. She is hard to break, and rarely speaks. She has a poor sense of humor. She is known to be strange. She has odd habits and tendencies. She often smells those she first meets in order to learn their sent so that she can reconize them.

She became an adventurer to become better at her arts. She knows that killing people will only bring people at her heals, so the best way to perfect her skills are to use them on monsters and bandits.

Edit: darn, just noticed the spelling errors, darn spell check.

@Shadepelt: It's okay I too enjoy a bit of teivery from time to time ;P

Background:

Smoke and blood stained earth and sky. Fire roared and raged while icy rain fell. Screams and shouts echoed over the once idyllic landscape. Stefano was numb to it all. It was familiar to him now. The blood, the cruelty, the smell. An old man, not even one of the noble house they'd come to cleanse, gasped in pain nearby. Stefano marched over, his stride slow and unhurried, and crushed his throat. He'd been tainted they would say. His association with the unclean heretics had damned him.

His plate gleamed in the light of the burning estate as he made his way around. A young girl, a lowly servant, fell to his blade. A young noble, a boy of no more than ten or eleven, found his skull caved in by the pommel of his sword. One by one, his victims fell dead. Young, old, guilty, and innocent, it did not matter to him. He was one of keepers of Hell's Order in Cheliax. What did it matter to him? Why should he kowtow to the sensibilities of those weaklings that followed the goodly gods?

He stalked the edge of the slaughter, looking for those that would seek to escape into the night. He melted in and out of the rain, a grim spectre of death. The screams were reaching a crescendo, the climax of the symphony of blood and iron that had been played by his order this night. He spied a woman sprawled in the mud and grass at the edge of the light cast by the blaze. She seemed dead, but more than one heretic had sought to escape judgement by feigning death.

He kicked the body over, and his breath caught in his chest. Not because of the woman; she was most definitely dead, her throat torn out by a well-aimed arrow. No, it was what the woman's body had hidden. Lying in the cold mud, wrapped tightly in blankets was a girl, an infant girl with ashen skin and raven-black hair. Memories long locked away cam flooding back. The feeling of pride as he looked upon the sleepy face of a newborn babe, the joy he felt as he watched her grow, the despair and grief when he found her and her mother dead, all of it came crashing over him.

His eyes swept over the scene of horror. His sword fell from his hand. What had he become? He'd killed children, robbed them of their chance at making this world a better and brighter place, just as his little girl had been robbed of her chance. He looked at the sleeping girl, and felt shame burn in his heart. He could not kill her, could not let her be killed. They would though, and would make him do it, or even put him to death alongside her, if he protested. There was only one choice he could make. There was only one way he could atone.

===

His breathing was ragged as he held a girl in one arm and tried to stem the tide of blood flowing from the wound in his side with the other. He was dying, but he would not give up until he'd gotten her to safety. It had been a month since he'd ran from that night. A month of dodging guards and hellknights. They'd both die if he was caught, and he refused to die for nothing. He'd get her to safety, even if he had to force himself to live through wounds and pain that should have left him dead.

He was almost there, though. Almost to where she'd be safe. It had not been easy to convince them of his intentions and of his abandonment of the hellknights, but it had been worth it. He only had to make it to the meeting place. His legs felt as if they had become lead. His vision blurred and turned black, but he refused to die. Another arrow stabbed into his leg, and another two into his back, but he continued on. THe hounds howled, and he could hear the thunder of hooves in the distance. It would not be long, but he'd make sure his charge was safe.

"Take her and fly," he gasped as he found the two Bellflower operatives where they had told him to meet.

"What is her name," one fo them asked in a whisper.

"Find one that fits," was all he said before pushing them along their way.

The two who'd promised to find her a home slinked away, disappearing into the brush of the forest.

Stefano turned to face his death.

He did not die alone.

Kalisuel swept the floor with the effortless efficiency that came with long practice. She'd been left in the care of the orphanage in Kaer Maga six years previous. No one knew where she'd come from or even if her parents still lived, though to hear the middle-aged spinsters that ran the place, it would be a mercy to them if they had died. Even if they didn't know where she'd come from, they did know that Kalisuel was the spawn of fiends. The traits she bore were too obvious. Her skin was the color of ash, her eyes glowed violet in the dark, and her canines were far too long. The other children followed the lead of their caretakers and despised her.

She knew better than to complain, though. She did as she was told, and did it how she was told. They still yelled at her for making mistakes, even tiny ones, but it helped avoid the beatings. She felt cold, empty, but never anger. What was the point? She was small, weak. She only wanted the same thing the other children had: friends, decent meals, a soft bed. Maybe if she was good enough, maybe if she endured this long enough, maybe if she proved she wasn't the monster the others called her, then she'd make a friend, be allowed to eat with the others, and not just scrounge for scraps after everyone had eaten, or be allowed to sleep on one of the beds, and not have to shiver under a ratty blanket on the floor of the closet under the stairs.

Maybe they wouldn't hate her.

She put the broom away after she finished the sweeping. She'd have to prepare the water for scrubbing it next, and that would take long enough for her to finish with a few other chores she had. With any luck, she'd finish in time to sneak away with a crust of bread and some broth left from the soup simmering on the stove before her caretakers tossed the scraps out. The thought of having something to help warm her brought a smile to her face.

"Kalisuel? Are you about," called one of the women that ran the orphanage. Kalisuel only knew her as Miss Ria, though the other children called her Mother Ria or Mama Ria. Kalisuel would never call her that. She wasn't allowed to, and the one time she'd slipped up had made her never forget that rule again.

"Y-yes," the young girl stammered in reply, "I-I-I was j-just about to scrub the floors."

Miss Ria walked into the room, a steaming mug in her hand. A draft blew through the room, reminding Kalisuel that the ragged clothing she wore did little to keep the chill at bay, and made her wish that the mug was for her. The slightly nervous, but polite, expression that Kalisuel always wore around others fell away as Miss Ria gently replaced the broom in her hands with the mug.

"Never mind that now," the middle-aged woman told the young, ashen-skin girl, "Best drink that while it's warm. It'll help with the draft in here."

Kalisuel burned the tip of her tongue the first time, but after a few abortive attempts, she was sipping the drink and relishing the warmth it was spreading through her from her belly. It wasn't long before she'd drained the mug, and was feeling sleepy.

I... I can't go to sleep, she thought, still need to... scrub...

The young girl was asleep before she could finish her thought.

===

Bitter cold bit into her skin like fangs of ice and frost. She didn't know where she was. The entire time she'd been at the orphanage, she'd never ventured outside. She only the knew the city's name because she'd overheard it once. Frightened, cold, and hungry, she called out, for Miss Ria at first, but then the other women that ran the orphanage. She didn't know how long she walked the cold winter streets, searching and calling.

No one answered. No one saw. Kalisuel kept walking, hoping to run into someone as the wind picked up and howled through the ancient stone of the city. She walked on as a storm blew in, bringing with it the coldest weather the city had seen in recent memory. Finally too exhausted to push on anymore, the young girl collapsed against a door called out as loudly as she could through chattering teeth.

"H-help m-m-m-me, p-p-p-p-please help."

Darkness once again took her as a dark figure, hunched against the winds approached the door.

===

"Pit-bait!"

The call cut through the chatter in the dressing room as Kalisuel was rushing through, moving cases of Chelish Red from the back door to the cellar below the kitchen. Kalisuel ignored the name and kept walking briskly to the reaming cases at the back door. Madam Bludet was rather graphic in her description of what awaited her if she failed to get all of the wine in the cellar by the time she was finished at the boutique a few doors down. Despite hurrying as much as she could, she only had time for one more trip, and she wasn't sure if she could carry all three of the remaining cases in one trip by herself. Besides that, Alexandrie Vasseur knew that errands from Madam Bludet came first, not that it stopped her or the other women that worked at the brothel that reveled in the name Strangers' Best from demanding she do whatever menial task they had for her right then.

She was nearly yanked off her feet when Alexandrie grabbed her wrist and spun her around to face the woman that was fast approaching middle-age and gives a yelp of pain as her arm is nearly pulled out of socket. It had been four years since she'd been brought in after being found on the brothel's doorstep by one of its patrons, and it hadn't taken Kalisuel long to figure that she wasn't going to be treated any better than, or even as well as, she had been treated at the orphanage. Alexandrie, it seemed, was the worst of the lot, especially when Kalisuel had caught her sneaking some men into her room for "free samples."

"Do you not hear when I speak to you, or is it that you are just that stupid," Alexandrie spat out in a hatred filled voice.

"Madam Bludet said I ha--" Kalisuel's reply is cut off as a sharp slap rings out and causes her to yelp again. Seeing that her only hope was to actually get on with the task she'd been given, and pray that Alexandrie decided that a case of wine was too expensive a price to pay for her petty revenge, Kalisuel pulled her wrist free and continue with her chores. Unfortunately, it seemed, Alexandrie had other ideas. Before the young girl even knew what was happening, she found herself on the floor, gasping for air and in pain.

"I asked are you stupid, not what you are doing," The hateful woman hissed in her ear as she twisted her fingers into the young girl's raven black hair and pulled her up. Kalisuel tried to get loose, hoping to at least get the cases close, but her struggling only made the tugging in her scalp hurt worse. She found herself dazed from having her head slammed into the floor. Feeling the hatred, the satisfaction of her in pain, around her, she tries to curl up and protect herself from what she knows is coming. She manages to bite back the cries from the first few blows, but soon she was sobbing in agony from the savage beating. She doesn't know how long it went on, how long the women selling themselves, or Madam Bludet when she returned, kicked her, beat her, and tormented her.

In the end, she found mercy in the blackness of unconsciousness.

===

Brother Gallus frowned at the sight before him. It was only chance is aging eyes saw the young girl amongst the trash in one of the more dangerous parts of Kaer Maga. She was badly beaten and bloodied, but she somehow clung to life. His assistant, a young cleric that he was grooming to take over for him, had fallen behind, apologizing to the Abadarians who'd managed to irritate him immensely.

No matter, thought the priest as he knelt beside the young child and began to wrap her in his cloak, this one is more important than their sensibilities.

The girl was not human, that much was obvious. She had ashen skin, raven-black hair, and violet eyes from what little he could see as they fluttered open for a moment. She was small, almost delicate in his arms. It was also obvious that she'd been left to die. She wore nothing but a few scraps of cloth that served as underclothes, and even though some of the wounds were old, most of them were fresh, and it was a miracle that she'd survived at all.

"You know the others will not approve," Gallus' assistant said as he moved up beside the older priest in the alleyway.

"Do you think I care what they approve of or not, Peregrine," Gallus retorted.

"No, but I feel that I should remind you none-the-less," Peregrine answered as he took his holy symbol, the image of a longsword on a starburst made of silver hanging from a chain, in one hand and placed the other on the girl's forehead. A soft silver glow shines about the two of them as he heals her injuries.

"I suppose I should feel grateful," Gallus said as he sees her breath easier.

Together the two Iomedaean priests walked back to the inn they were staying at, bringing a battered young girl with them.

===

It was cold.

It was always cold when things went badly for her. Brother Gallus had passed away, and it seemed that some of the elders of the Iomedaean monastery Kalisuel had lived at for the past four years were determined to spite him. Peregrine, and his sister, Dove, had known that Gallus had planned to leave Kalisuel his holy symbol, but before they could give it to her, it had been set in the priest's tombstone. Kalisuel had also been denied the chance to say goodbye at his funeral, having been put on duty somewhere out of sight of all of those coming to mourn the man's passing. However, they were not content to leave it at that, and both of the siblings had nearly punched the man that had taken Gallus' place when he had informed them that Kalisuel could not stay.

So early in the hours of the gray dawn, Peregrine, Dove, and others that had come to know the kind-hearted young girl that had been rescued from the streets of Kaer Maga gathered to say goodbye. They'd gathered supplies and coins, some even giving more than they really should have, to help her on her journey. So it was with tear-bright eyes and whispered pleas to be careful and be safe that they saw her off. Their prayers went with her, for they could not. Duty demanded they remained, even when they wished to help their young friend, their young sister, in her journey.

All they could do was pray it was enough as she walked out in to the gray dawn and the fog that shrouded the world around them.

===

Ten years had passed since Kalisuel had left the monastery. She'd had to fight and scrounge to just survive, and the years had taken a toll on her. She had stopped hoping to find a group that'd take her a few years ago, and the weariness in her heart was wearing on her. She had been kicked form caravan to caravan, being as frugal as she could after being cheated out of her payment as a guard twice. The Szcarni were particularly bad about honoring their word given to an outsider she had learned, and more often than not, it was only the coin she'd been gifted that had seen her through. Unfortunately, the last of money she'd earned from her last job, and the last of the coin she'd been given when leaving the monastery had run out a month before, and she was desperate for any job that'd pay.

Seeing the sign posted at the edge of the camp about guards wanted, Kalisuel steeled her nerves and began to seek out the caravan master. She didn't care where they were going, or how long it took to get there if it meant she'd avoid starving to death.

That was about the best she could hope for after all.

Kalisuel stands a few inches shy of five feet tall, a testament to the poor conditions she lived under for most of her childhood. Her skin is the color of ash, and her hair is raven black. It is her eyes, though that are most striking on those rare occasions that Kalisuel finds herself happy and in high spirits. They sparkle like orbs cut form amethyst. She is a beautiful young woman, and as often as not, it causes her trouble as accusations of homewrecker start flying.

The same, however, cannot be said of her equipment. Most of it is frayed, nicked, and only in good repair because of the diligence that Kalisuel puts into taking care of it. The most damaged of her things is the battered holy symbol that hangs from a leather strip tied around her neck. A testament to how poorly things have gone for her.

===

Kalisuel is a guarded person, hard experience having taught her to do as she is told and to never let anyone get close enough to hurt her. She shows a weariness beyond her years, having been rejected from almost anywhere. She has thought about living in Kaer Maga, but the fear of being rejected even from that fabled city has kept her from acting on it.

Behind the armor built of fear and experience, and worn thin by the weariness that bears down on her, is a young woman of steadfast faith, iron principles, and fierce loyalty. She'll defend the innocent from those that would prey on them, even if those she defends will reject her. She does not do this for pity, or in the hopes that they will accept her, but because it is right.

And there's Kalisuel done for the most part. I would work more on her background, but I think that's plenty long already. II hope what I am going for with this character is clear, but I would just like to mention that I don't plan on her staying as she is now. Depending on how the other members of the party treat her, she may open up and you'll get to see the more kind and caring side of her, or you may see her lose all hope and just assume she'll always be an outcast no matter what she does.

Just so you guys know. I've got pretty thick skin, so don't worry about me taking things personally if your character is the type that would be a jerk to a tiefling like Kalisuel.

Are Damphir and/or Kitsune races allowed?

@ Shadepelt
Received.

@ Adam
(whistle) that's a lot. I read everything in background just to let you know.

@ LetcherMan
Both seem fine from what I've referenced online. I do retain the power to refuse certain alternate traits and such, but shouldn't be a problem.
