Hi im new could use some help.

Pathfinder Society

Hey everyone! I am new to the pathfinder universe and wanted to start playing so I have some questions.

Question 1: Is there a way to play online wiht others? My local store's parties are full and Id like to get some experince before playing with them when spots open up(dont want to be he guy slowing the game down).

Question 2: Is there any rules in charater generator I should know about. I want to make a bloodrager but im afraid im stumped i like the idea of being a brute like a berserker with spells like a sorcerer.

Question 3: Is there downloadable pdf files for charater generator stuff like items, abilities ect. I am very poor but enjoy watching others play so id like to read thru all the abilities and such to familiarize myself with them.

Any other tips or help would be greatly apreshated thank you.

Just be aware you've wandered into the organized play section of the boards, for all the all official murderhob..erm. Pathfindering games. So I'm assuming thats the type of game the local stores play for these answers.

Flutter's guide links how to tell if something is legal.

No, but archives of nethys and the SRD have most things available online.

One requirement is that you need to own the resource (either hardcopy or PDF)in order to use it. To play a Bloodrager you need to own Advanced Class Guide. It is assumed you own the Core Rule Book, even if you don't. Online play is difficult to prove non-PDF ownership and is sometimes hand waved by the GM, F2F is usually enforced. All of the hardcover class books are online at Paizo.

Hope you can find a good game, online or f2f.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Answer 1A (Online Play): BigNorseWolf is right on the money, there's also a Chat server where you can ask all kinds of questions about online play. It's a really fun way to play Pathfinder- I highly recommend it!

Answer 1B (Starting Out): If you already have a local store with Pathfinder, then you've got a great opportunity to meet new friends and learn the game! I was pretty intimidated when I first started out, so I sent an email to the organizer and made sure I got scheduled with a group who was happy to introduce me to the game. (In fact- he ran a great starter scenario for me to learn!)

Answer 2 (Bloodragers and making legal characters): Here's a bloodrager guide, but seems like your question is more "how do I make a legal PFS character?" If so, then I lean on Hero Lab which has a checkbox for PFS Legal which makes things easy. I also own (and read!) the rule books, so this should just be a helper, not a replacement for the rules.

Answer 3: The Pathfinder Reference Document or PRD is amazing, and has all the main rulebooks inside it. The Archives of Nethys is a fan-run website which catalogs most of the other rules/options/flavor that are more specific to the world of Golarion and the general campaign which PFS is part of. Both are good to read through and help you decide which character to make next!

Two additional suggestions:

For in person play, your local Venture-Person who you can find here, is probably a great source of information about what's going on in your area. Even if there's not someone who's exactly where you are, someone in the general area can likely either answer your questions or introduce you to someone else who can.

Another online option is Play By Post. Games tend to take a long time to complete (~4-6 weeks is most common), but the daily time commitment is much less (~15 mins per game you're playing in). It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it can be nice to have a little bit of gaming to do each day. There are lots of ways to play it, but the most common is right here on these forums.

Play by Post Gameday V (basically an online convention) begins at the end of the month, so pretty much everyone's holding off on starting new games until then. I will be offering a game specifically for newcomers to PBP, so if that sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know and I can hold you a seat.

D Hennessey I would love a seat if you have the room. Also thank you to everyone else youve been most helpful! =)

Maybe see if you can get to a nearby state, or see if a Venture Officer from a nearby state can help. The Grand Lodge of New England might help. Also, I used the page and was able to find on Facebook The Maine Pathfinder Society Lodge. They had some events recently.

Westbrook outside of portland seems to be the only spot.

Godwrecker, I'll give you an update about the play by post game later today, but in the meantime, I wanted to let you know there is PFS in Maine.

While he's based in the Boston area, Venture Captain David Montgomery has taken point on coordinating PFS up there. He can tell you what's going on up there. Send him an email at cambridgepfs (at) gmail, and he should be able to help you out.

Talk to the closest VO about getting you set up as a venture agent and help you get a lodge set up in your area. It will take some hard work to get it rolling but it will be worth it.

Also check out roll20 for online Pfs stuff I plan on running stuff there in the winter and your more then welcome to join my table

Is there a flat rolling surface within 3 miles that you have access to, either your house a garage or a gaming store?

you should be able to click on their name, then when you get to a Page for them, look for a link that says "Send Private Message." Click on that and type them a message. That should send them a PM.
