What do I do with a Dhampir Boon?

Advice

The Exchange

I won a dhampir boon at a CON. Any suggestions on what kind of character to make? And why?

I made mine a Neutral Warpriest in order to be able to heal. There are a few alternate racial traits to help suit a number of different classes.

The Exchange

What kind of stats did you give him? And how is he different from a cleric?

High Str, moderate Wis, then bumping Dex and Con to survive in melee. For the most part, he doesn't get the same response as a cleric does. People treat him more like a fighter than a healer. Especially once they make the Knowledge Religion check to know he channels negative energy. My favorite trick is the Magic Blessing letting him throw his weapon with Hand of the Apprentice.

I've been kicking around the idea of turning mine into a vigilante, possibly either a cabalist or the inquisitory one. There are a couple talents in the spymaster's handbook that give them a human and/or an undead identity.

"There were always these nasty rumors about uncle Takarian being a vampire. I assure you they were just another attempt by a lesser house to insult ours."

Tavarius is a 9th level negative channeling cleric of Dispater. Feel free to click and see his statblock for inspiration.

I was looking at the Warlock Vigilante myself. Wand of infernal healing in the reserve and a wand of inflict light wounds on the hip.

I turned a Dhampir boon into a Mindblade Magus. She's pretty fun to play, she's got high int, high str, decent con. I mainly wanted to make a str-based magus. She's barely level eight right now, she can do lots of fun things.

Scarab Sages

I went Undead Bloodline Spelleater Bloodrager. He's a monster.

Shadow Lodge

You can also trade it. There's a large number of people (including myself) who are looking for one.

Silver Crusade

Mine was an archer, until one PaizoCon he was the sole survivor of a table of Bonekeep I, carried unconscious and bleeding out of the dungeon by another player's animal companion, Tertius the Goat. I took a level of beast-bonded witch so I could build Tertius into my character's story, and now he's on the path to arcane archer.

What to do with a Dhampir boon?

My best suggestions are beheading or burning at the stake. Leaving it out in the sun doesn't seem to work on the boon, but holy water might damage it eventually.

For something powerful a channel cleric with the favored class bonus of the race. Undead are no longer a threat.

The Exchange

I would never use this boon on anything but a Cruoromancer Wizard. Take the favored class bonus. If you are going to use a rare race boon why not enjoy an unique archetype especially when it is mechanically strong?

Shadow Lodge

Because I'm not worried about mechanically strong archetypes? And I can play such things in home games.

Sovereign Court

Pharasmin Inquisitor Gunslinger of Vieland, Ustalav.
Johanna Iona Vlaicu
Gunslinger 3 (Musket Master)
Inquisitor 2 (Kinslayer)

Will be building mainly Inquisitor after 7 levels of Gunslinger.
Built with the idea of the Blade movies. (Anyone got Tian weapon training)

Why I built her this way. Ranged Combat. Great Dex, Great Wis. Saves are AMAZING. Kinslayer dhampir archtype give detect undead as at will spell, it is a godsend ability. Synergy of Wisdom with both classes is great, and stacks initiative. Spells of Inquisitor give great buffing power and undead slaying abilities. Gunslinger allows me to deliver it from afar while looking like a true Van Helsing/Blade character (BA).

I'd just make Kain. There's even a Magus archetype for him. Or for Elric, rather, but same diff.

Dark Archive

Initially Viliym was an APG Summoner with the Skeletal Summoner feat and an Undead Eidolon that mimicked a Skeletal Champion.

But he was all GM credit, and I didn't think to play him by the time Pathfinder Unchained was released.

Now he's a Thassilonian Necromancer/Cruoromancer, focused on Channeling Negative and casting Boneshatter.

I still haven't played him much, though.

what was your starting ability score spread?

I might build towards this... though I'm thinking Moroi-born(Svetocher) instead of Ru-Shi...

. Why didn't you take advantage of the plus 2 to dexterity and charisma?

The character may have had a variant heritage, which changes the race's ability score modifiers. ^_^

The original ones are in Blood of the Night, while the updated ones can be found in Inner Sea Races. Check the Additional Resources and Campaign Clarifications to make sure they're legal. ^_^

Before racial adjustments (Ru-Shi; +Str, +Int, -Dex)

Str 14
Dex 12
Con 14
Int 15
Wis 8
Cha 13

Obviously not an optimal array, mainly by choice. I also GM credited it up to fourth before I started playing her. If I wanted to do it better I probably would have gone 14,14,14,15,10,8.

I might've also gone with 13,15,14,15,10,8 (giving me 15,13,14,17,10,8 after race) to keep my dex to a point where I could get two weapon fighting once I got the ability to manifest two mindblades and cast with a mindblade in the off-hand, that would be with Int at four, Str at eight, and a +2dex+2str belt

Dark Archive

Ru-Shi is +2 Dex, +2 Int, –2 Wis.

This character is a Ru-Shi as well.

Silver Crusade Contributor

For the record, ru-shi are either Str/Int/-Dex or Dex/Int/-Wis, depending on your source. ^_^

I play a dhampir paladin of Shelyn in a campaign. It's mostly been a hindrace: he has Life-Dominant Soul, so he can use lay on hands on himself, but he at one point healed 3 HP with a roll of 4d6.

Removed some unnecessary back and forth.

what source, other than Blood of the Night, has PFS legal stats for the Ru-Shi?

Oracle with Lunar Mystery for a total vampiric thing!

Inflict Wounds for healing, Obscuring Mist to fake gaseous form, Beast Shape/natural Weapon Revelations.... ^^

Damn, you beat me. #2. Touch of the moon is awesome, because you picked to know all inflict spells, didn't you?

... never mind... just reread though the thread and found the answer to my question...

Looks like I might need to pick up Inner Sea Races...

And the Hungry curse from the monster code will give you a bite attack!

Yeah but i have not this revelation until...

The Hunger curse is also great idea.
Wolfscarred Face is an other option for more feral looking bites..
