Cleric of Irori Favored Weapon

Rules Questions

I am building a cleric and want to use Irori as my deity. Irori's favored weapon is listed as "Unarmed Strike". Since clerics are considered proficient with their deity's Fav Weapon, does this effectively work as if I have the "Improved Unarmed Strike" feat*?

I've looked for an errata but haven't had any luck.

*Improved Unarmed Strike

You are skilled at fighting while unarmed.

Benefit: You are considered to be armed even when unarmed—you do not provoke attacks of opportunity when you attack foes while unarmed. Your unarmed strikes can deal lethal or nonlethal damage, at your choice.

Normal: Without this feat, you are considered unarmed when attacking with an unarmed strike, and you can deal only nonlethal damage with such an attack.

The Exchange

3 people marked this as a favorite.

It's in a couple of places including the rarely used "Golarion Rules and Questions" FAQ:

Quote:

Favored Weapon (Unarmed Strike): If my deity's favored weapon is Unarmed Strike, do I gain Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat?

Yes, if your class grants you proficiency in your deity's favored weapon as a class ability.

Also in the current (v 7.0) Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide to Organized Play page 8 (it's been in the Guide as long as I've been playing):

Quote:
Clerics of Irori receive Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat so they can use their deity’s favored weapon (unarmed strike) without provoking an attack of opportunity.
