Interest Check - Emerald Spire Superdungeon

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 93 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Now that I'm back in "game mode", I'm looking to expand my horizons with something that gets me uber-excited -- The Emerald Spire.

The last game I started appeared to have a lot of excitement, and we're currently at 2 players.

With that in mind, I'm not going to start up a game after getting only a few interested people. I want people who are really committed.

For now, throw me your character ideas, using the guidelines below:

Books: CRB, anything from Paizo. If you're not sure, just ask.

Players: 4-6 PCs

Character Creation: 20 point buy, wealth: roll for class, if below average, bump up to average, 2 traits, hit points will be max at level 1, alignment: no evil.

Play style: Lots of combat, roleplaying/party banter, use of combat maps.

Posting Style: Make sure you're using bold for speech, out of character for out of game questions/clarification, and italics for your thoughts.

Selection: I'll be choosing based on a personal interest factor and what I feel would make a well-rounded party make-up. If I see something that looks extra cool though, expect to get a private message from me.

So go ahead and show me your best characters. I’m interested to see who shows up.

Never done this before. Will have a look and see =^^=

Did you think about the idea of doing a gestalt game?

I've always been very interested in the Emerald Spire, but you definitely need a great party of players and characters to tackle such a dungeon while still having enjoyable roleplay and banter. It can too easily become Diablo with Pathfinder rules. I hope other potential players (and the GM himself) agree with me.

If I only had 2 people interested, I'd consider gestalt, otherwise no.

Yea...if I wanted to play Diablo, I'd just play it. Cool encounters along with some of the side quests should hopefully keep the diablo-ness out of the game.

what about 3pp? I have been interested in Spheres of Power lately.

Tenro wrote:

Please refer to my first post about books to be used.

If 3pp stuff gets in, it turns into a frenetic palladium mess...too much stuff that can potentially unbalance things.

In this particular case, I'd rather not have to learn an entirely new set of rules.

Hmmm, will you allow a Trox or a Shabti?

Im thinking of going for Living Monolith =^^=

Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9x10 = average 105

I'm quite interested.

Ideally, I'd be playing a fighter or similar. Perhaps a brawler, maybe.

Here is Grizzlix, I made him just so GM can have a look at my idea.

Posting for interest. I am not at my computer right now, but will put together a PC application this afternoon.

Ah, the Emerald Spire. That was a fun way to introduce some of my friends to Pathfinder.

I'm guessing, though, that having played through the module before would probably be disqualifying? It's still fresh enough in my mind that it would be difficult not to remember where most of the traps are.

It wouldn't necessarily disqualify you.

Hey Tom, how would you feel about the following:

"Unchained" Ninja - essentially take the Rogue->Ninja port and apply it to the URogue...

Combine this with VMC Monk, and I would gladly provide skills, trapfinding, and decent damage to the party. Does this sound like something you would support?

All right... I'll probably hang around and see if there's a role that seems poorly covered, since I don't have a particularly strong idea for a character at present.

It sounds like a lot of fun but I have never had a chance to play it. I'll come up with something and put a submission together.

Edit: I was thinking about going with a gnome bard or wizard but was wondering if you would allow either of these alternate racial traits.

Architectural Ingenuity:
Some gnomes demonstrate incredible talent for building and adjusting structures. These gnomes gain a +2 racial bonus on Knowledge (engineering) checks and on Craft and Perception checks related to structures (including structural traps). This racial trait replaces keen senses and obsessive. Source PCS:ISR

or

Fey Magic (2 RP):
The character has a mystic connection to one terrain type, selected from the ranger's favored terrain list. The character selects three 0-level druid spells and one 1st-level druid spell. If the character has a Charisma score of 11 or higher, when in the selected terrain, she gains these spells as spell-like abilities that can be cast once per day. The caster level for these effects is equal to the user's character level. The DC for the spell-like abilities is equal to 10 + the spell's level + the user's Charisma modifier. These spells are treated as being from a fey source for the purposes of the druid's resist nature's lure class feature and similar abilities. This trait replaces obsessive. Source HotW

I would love to try out. Do the 2 players you already have know what they want to play?

I have three options I would enjoy playing and they are all something I have never had the chance to play before. A Sorcerer going into Dragon Disciple. Or a melee person going into Stalwart Defender if we have a group of casters and ranged people this could be a really fun option. Or Alchemist. I have seen them played and they look like so much fun!

I am interested as well. I'll try to get a submission made up this evening.

That's a completely different game.

So I'm always interested in meeting new people and playing in a new (to me) game! I've been looking specifically for an opportunity to get my feet wet with arcane spellcasting, and am a big fan of the arcanist's delivery method. I wouldn't even pretend to have a particularly cohesive build in mind yet, as I'm usually more of a "meat and potatoes" kind of player than a "warps the fabric of reality" kind of player.

That said, once I get updates down for the games I'm already in, I'll start putting some serious thought into how I would build the character and who he/she would be.

I am all over this! I've tried twice, but the games both petered out before we got to the second room...but not because of me!

I'm interested in playing play a skill character. Perhaps a Tiefling. Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) / Investigator (Empiricist).

Any chance you'd run this for PFS credit?

Liberty's Edge

Count me VERY interested!

I'm interested! Though not if it's gestalt...

I don't think we have to worry about gestalt. There are more than enough interested people.

As far as the PFS credits...I wouldn't even know how to start with that...so a no.

*raises hand*

Allowed races? Any classes you don't really like? Templates? etc?

No races that are inherently evil (drow, duergar, etc). I don't have to like the classes...it's up to you to be excited to play it.

Tiefling kind of bug me. Not sure why I've seen so many on the boards as PCs. I'm not saying a tiefling would be automatically rejected...I just don't get the appeal.

Throw something at me and I'll look it over.

Any one of those sounds like they could be fun.

Note to players: alchemist and gunslinger are 2 of my favs.

Is the Emerald Spire Cavalier friendly? I love the Spellscar Drifter archetype, but getting your mount around in a dungeon is often an exercise in frustration.

Fey Magic (2 RP): Show

Both yes.

Unless your mount was a spider or something.

It does not. Looks like a whole lot of levels of wacky laid overtop each other.

Arrgg! I have to pick one! I think I will go with the Alchemist. I was reminded that I said if I had the chance to play one I would so that is what I will be going with. Pending the answers to my few questions. If I go alchemist I get some trap stuff, I get wings, and fun buffs! I am torn between going with the Grenadier or the Trap Breaker.

Is there time for crafting? I am going to want to make potions and alchemical items.

What are some types of creatures we can assuming we will be facing?

How do you feel about Gnomes? Because a Gnome Alchemist would be fun.

I know most of the game takes place in the Emerald Spire but will we have a chance to spend time in the town? Or the forest?

Do you have a problem with the Leadership feat? Would that be an option for later?

Does it bother you if there is romance that pops up in the game? I have seem games that seem to center around it and others where it does not matter at all. Or people shame those doing it.

How detailed do you want the backstory to be?

I think that is enough for now.

Though because I have three options I really would love to play I could easily switch to the other two to fill a void if needed. Honestly I want to play all the classes!

Oh I had another question. How will you be handling the combat? Google Documents or something else?

Based on my experience, there's a small town that is intended to be used as a home base, and exploration is mostly at the party's pace, so there's probably time to craft. But that is definitely GM preference.

It would probably be cheating if I said anything about creatures we face, so I'll just say that there's a variety.

There's nearby Fort Inevitable. For anyone who's from the area, I'll have some extra info about the fort.

There will be plenty of downtime at the fort for crafting.

A simple "no" would have sufficed, but alright, I will figure something else out. I am a bit surprised that one non-Paizo request (addressing the Ninja as a Rogue-Archetype) + VMC = "wacky," though. Do you support VMC in general, or should I steer clear of that too?

Deaths Adorable Apprentice wrote:

Running this with my phone...so for now it's going to be a simple google spreadsheet map.

For ages I have the idea of a knife throwing character. Be it dony tresco in el mariachi, Tintin of the crow, or Mezz of the late lucifer.
I would love the chance to play one. Pondering either Swashbuckler flying blade or warpriest. Just your favorite 20 dagger carrying friend.

Please see my life oracle as a submission for this fine game. More to come shortly.

That's pretty cool! Yoinked.

If I recall correctly, Tin Tin didn't last very long.

This is Tarondor's submission.

He starts off as a tiefling swashbuckler (inspired blade) and by 2nd level will become an investigator (empiricist). Background, personality and partial projected build in the link.

Does "no evil races" include kobolds? I have been really wanting to play a kobold for some time because I just love the idea.

If a kobold would not be permitted (which is what I assume... I just thought it can't hurt to check) I may try to come up with something else, I have a few other ideas. This module seems like a lot of fun.

Is there a time limit on applications?

Archpaladin Zousha wrote:

Right now, no. There appears to be plenty of interest. I'm starting to contact people who have interesting characters/concepts. I'll see where that leads and then anounce a cut off on Monday.

RePete here submitting my character.

Thank you for your consideration.

Here is Uthraed's submission. He is not geared yet because I am rolling now.
Wealth: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5) = 14
No back story yet but my idea is being diplomatic in town and using my large variety of spells and disarming abilities in combat to really befuddled my enemies. Let me know your thoughts.

Just FYI, folks - after PMing with Tom_Thiessen he made it clear to me that he doesn't like VMC. I will be applying with a completely different PC as a result and would encourage everyone to avoid VMC if you want to be selected.

Am well neither did dany trejo in el mariachi. But... he was soo very kick-ass.

I think I would make a warpriest. Mainly ranged, but divine backup and melee too.

Came up with some campaign traits (more or less copied and pasted from other APs).

Traits

If anyone thinks of any that might be a good fit, let me know.
