Brawler Temple Sword Proficiency

Rules Questions

So I'm looking at making a Brawler and I'm wondering, are they proficient with Temple Swords?

Quote:

At 1st level, a brawler counts her total brawler levels as both fighter levels and monk levels for the purpose of qualifying for feats. She also counts as both a fighter and a monk for feats and magic items that have different effects based on whether the character has levels in those classes (such as Stunning Fist and a monk's robe). This ability does not automatically grant feats normally granted to fighters and monks based on class level, namely Stunning Fist.

The Temple Sword itself gives Proficiency to Monks, effectively granting them Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Temple Sword).

So if you have a Magic +1 Temple Sword, is the Brawler proficient in it, as it is now a Magical Item that functions different for a class (Monk)?

Thanks in advance!

No, on two levels.
- Proficiencies are not equivalent to their feats.
- Even if they were, the Brawler text is only for the purposes of what feats they qualify for and what the feats do. They don't get any Monk class features or bonus feats as a result of that section.

As for the magic item angle, no, it's the mundane weapon "granting" that property.

Alright great then!
Was worried I was missing something because it seemed a little too good to be true.

Addendum: Is the Opalescent White Pyramid Ioun Stone too good for its cost (Cracked or otherwise)? I know Exotic Weapons are fairly weak in general so I'm inclined to say no, but any other opinions would be great.

Unfortunately, it looks like you have to turn towards either the bayonet or quarterstaff.

Those are the only flurriable weapons that can be 2 handed on your weapon list. Unless I am forgetting some random close weapons (heavy shields...I guess?)

Bayonet feels...eh (VEEEERY flavor problematic)..., but quarterstaff could be salvageable. The steelbreaker archetype can ignore DR with a wisdom check, and DR is the main reason why the quarterstaff is not very good.

The quarterstaff's stats suck, but it is a double weapon everyone gets, which has at least some value for rangers and slayers that can do str TWF (now replaced with the weighted spear though, which is basically the same thing, but has metal bits). So once you get past the fact that it cannot deal with basic cold iron/silver/adamantine, then it is passable.

Anyway, you otherwise have to spend a feat if you want better weapons. That, or dip (there are plenty of good monk martial weapons).
