Is there a simple way to ignore posters without ignoring threads every time a given poster appears in them?
I'm generally open-minded and am trying to learn, but there have been a couple of posts of late that have been triggering my 'toxic-reflux' reaction...

Also be aware that if a specific poster has a trend toward toxicity, you can email community@paizo.com to report them. No idea what happens once you do, but there you go.
While that would be a 'nice option' I'm not going to insist that my sense of toxicity is at the same standard or tolerance as someone else. If I start going that way, I become as bad as the individual in question.

That's why emailing that address is a means of communicating with the moderation team, rather than a means of you enforcing things yourself. Maybe you have a lower threshold than what the forum's standard is and nothing happens, or maybe they agree about the toxicity and take action. You just give them the information, and let them decide what to do with it. Letting them know you're finding Poster X consistently irksome does NOT equate to insisting upon the enforcement of your own toxicity threshold.

Another_Mage has ignore scripts in their profile.
Thanks for this. I'll definitely be trying it out.

At first I was going to find a way to make fun of you without being a jerk, for laughs. Something like "I was going to show you how I ignore someone, but my reply proves the technique doesn't work." Then I read this, and my respect for you increased. Very cool.

I'll second wha Jiggy wrote: If you need to complain that a particular user is regularly being offensive or toxic, e-mail the community team at: community@paizo.com. They'll review that poster's history and possibly take further action.
You can also flag individual posts for review by the moderators.
If you want to stop being notified that a thread you viewed has been updated, click the little "X" next to the number of unread posts, and you'll no longer be notified.
If a thread has offended you, you can also "Igore" the whole thread by clickin gthe little "null" symbol in the thread listing on the right. You won't see that thread listed any more, although you could still find your posts by viewing the "My Posts" tab on your user account page.
I've found that the "Rules" and "Advice" forums have a much higher level of toxicity than most of the rest of the boards. I pretty much simply avoid both.

Another (I think) valid reason to ignore some posters is to cut down on a low signal-to-noise ratio. I do it all the time in other forums. Too much posting about nothing, or conversation between web-pals, makes it more frustrating and less efficient for me to browse through a forum when I'm looking for actual game information. So I see Ignoring as an ability to customize my experience, somewhat...

Honestly this is the opposite of a productive post. Just because two posters have beef and will not enjoy participating in conversation with each other does not mean that one is in the wrong and needs to be removed or changed.
The only actual resolutions that would come from reporting someone to Paizo fall into three categories. First the poster you reported can be banned, this means that said poster cannot participate in conversations anymore and is denied access to the Paizo forums. If the poster was abusive and just generally terrible then it's good and warranted, but if they were just personally irksome to one other person then it's a massive overreaction. Second the other poster could be issued some sort of warning and change their behavior. This is ultimately a really passive aggressive way to change the way someone acts rather than confront them yourself, and if it comes with the threat of a ban is coercion. Third Paizo could decide that your report is baseless. In this case both posters go on either getting significantly less enjoyment out of the forums than they could otherwise or even don't get to participate in conversations. All three of these are rather bad solutions. The only good outcome is when you report someone who is genuinely abusive and they get banned.
An ignore function of script circumvents this and allows you to simply not deal with people who happen to irritate or provoke you without putting one poster's enjoyment of the forums over another's. Hell most of the other forums I frequent have block functions and they're great.

Just flag every post that is nasty and useless. When a moderator starts deleting posts, the argument falls apart pretty fast. Otherwise, I tend to hide the entire topic.
If the OP is suggesting a railroading campaign, and some other posters are trying to get the topic closed, they want me to hide the topic.
But if one poster gives you a hard time on several topics, yeah, this ignore method is best.

Thanks Oladon. I use your PCT a lot. Only have 1 in the blacklist, but would have added another one or two from the blog posts threads, if I was able.
edit for clarification:
The current Playtest threads that are not generated from the Paizo Blog work with the tool. It is only the Playtest Blog threads that have the problem. Hopefully the threads starting Thursday will be "normal" and not "blog" threads to they will work with the tool.

Is it me? I think it's me.
If that was meant for me, than NOPE, not you. heheh
I follow the Website Feedback forum, since even though retired for 8+ years, I am still a geek. I also follow just a few of the PE2 threads, and the most that I follow are the PbP General Discussion, Recruitment and of course the four games that I am involved in.
Two types of people annoy me enough to warrant a blacklist from my sight. Those that whine about everything, especially in the PE2 threads "the world is coming to an end!!!" and in the Recruitment threads, "but I don't care what the DM requests, he should let me play the half-drow, half-dragon, half-human god like creature that I want to!"

ps. Who is too old and ornery to put up with crud anymore.
pps. The saying of "suffer fools gladly", well my father (may he rest in peace) and I changed it to "won't suffer fools at all".
