I wonder how skewed the player levels are. Obviously until Niantic makes some changes (which they said they are working on at the moment) being in an urban center will level you much faster. Even Casual players are over 15 for the most part unless they just picked up the game around here.

Casual players around here are ~7

NYC hosts the first person to complete the "North American Pokedex". Of the 151 Pokemon, 3 are continental-based (unobtainable) and 6 no one has yet to see or catch that is known. My guess is that so far no one has hit 40th level (or whatever it is) to cross the threshold for getting ahold of Mew or MewTwo. Guy hit 31st level, captured over 4200 critters, hatched just over 300 eggs and clocked 150+ km doing so.

MewTwo is probably in area 51 or in some nuclear power plant.

Well clearly that person put the time and effort in.

I am 24th level, walked 110km, caught 1710 pokemon, and currently have my pokedex at 104 caught so far. I guess if I was in high school or college I could have put in a little more time. As an adult it isn't really likely I could have matched that insane performance.

Don't b ridiculous, obviously MewTwo is in area 151!

You guys know the legendaries are going to be event based right?

I'm 4 levels behind Missus Turin. Not too worried about trying to keep up with her save that it amuses me to keep her going strong. She's already blown through her initial allotment of poke-coins while I'm sitting on 2950 coins.

If a modest monthly expenditure helps keep her walking on an almost-daily basis, I'm solidly for it.

I'd be in trouble if there was a near-identical zombie survival based version of the same game... ;)

Slight segue, did a walk through DC today and caught more varied Pokemon and hit more Pokestops in a couple of hours than every other day since I downloaded the app combined. It's kinda ridiculous.

In this heat? Damn. :)

Pfft. I'm from Florida, 90 degrees in low humidity is nothin'.

Stopping regularly in Harris Teter or some such for a drink of water and a little AC didn't hurt though. =)

:) Today was more like 100 with +5-ish from humidity until about 7 p.m.-ish.

Took my dad to see the Potomac Nationals ball club in a double header today in this heat as a combo Father's Day/Birthday present. This was my first live baseball game and the first time he'd been to a ball game in 20+ years.

Multiple contests for kids. Meatloaf eating contest. Ryan Zimmerman playing. Team jersey auction for charity (Zimmerman's jersey auctioned for $350, most of the rest hit $60-$70, a few for more than that). Fireworks were a pleasant surprise, and they're running them every week.

Aluminum bench seats were a mite uncomfortable over the course of the afternoon/evening. If we go again, we're bringing butt cushions and probably going for the very slightly more expensive box seats. Cute young ladies fetching tasty beverages and chow is part of what you get for ~$2 or so more than the reserved bench seats we had.

Depending on which geography of D.C. you're in, there's at least 3 minor league ball clubs. What I saw was crawling with Pokemon. ;)

I caught a lot of Exeggcutes and Ekans, something I'd never seen around before.

I went for a run yesterday, and I wanted to put some miles on my eggs, but the app kept freezing up on me, and I don't think it registered half of what I ran. Has anyone had this issue while running? Or could it have just been spotty servers at the time?

I have. All the time. At least in my case, I don't think it's been so much spotty servers as spotty internet.

The App seems to need a really solid connection.

My wife and I went on an expedition to Silver Lake Park in the Twin Cities. There's a small island there with three PokeStops and a gym. About 50 people were there, riding the simultaneous lures to scoop up a bunch of water types.

A Gyarados spawned. A chorus of gasps and exclamations could be heard in all directions, followed shortly thereafter by a staggered series of cheers as people caught it. Sadly, mine is the minimum CP for the species, making it probably rather infeasible to power up and use. My wife's, however, is nearly 400, so she's probably better off pumping it than collecting another ~340 candies to evolve one herself.

I have confirmed the location of a dratini spawn area within walking distance of my house. I am very pleased :)

Dang, the coolest recurring spawn I've found anywhere is Magmar in Como Park. I'm about to hit 15th level and I still haven't even evolved a Venonat or Metapod. :/

Could have been a couple things.

1. Server issues.
2. Don't use the 'battery saver' move. Its buggy as hell and has a habbit of freezing the game.
3. Your best bet is to actually hold it with the app open while running. Or use some kind of mount/strap that will allow an app open without accidentally pressing things.

My best is the huge number of abras spawning in city hall park. Have an alakazam and am nearly half way to a second.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

In about 15 levels, I've found 2 Abras.

There is a Charmander spawn about a mile and half from my house (the 2nd and 3rd closest pokestops), at the town library. I need to head over there at some point.

Prepare for the forecasted sucking eggs weather. It's bizarre - today the heat index in D.C. is 5 degrees lower than it is near my house in the suburbs 2 counties west. Usually, the city is significantly warmer than the suburbs outside of the Beltway.

I'm currently 15th level. I've wandered the same areas downtown on my lunch break time after time. Today, I encountered my very first Growlithe.

*sigh*

I guess there are some Pokémon that I'll just have to give up on ever being able to actually use, since they appear so infrequently that I couldn't possibly power them up even once per level.

I'm also totally jealous of my wife's CP 1100+ Gyarados. :(

Dont give up just yet. I didnt get a growlithe until recently. As you level up, spawns change. You will slowly see more growlithes and similar rarer pokemon as you level.

Growlithe is basically the only semi-rare Pokemon that regularly-ish spawns in my area.

They finally released art of the team leaders. Candela is the leader of Team Valour.

Her appearance is actually what I imagined she would look like, interesting enough.

Yesterday morning, I couldn't get any items out of pokestops, and pokemon were breaking out like nobody's business. I reported it as a bug.

At lunch, things were working again. But then after work, once again I couldn't get items and critters were breaking out like crazy. (I'm talking a CP 40 Weedle breaking out without even struggling, and similar occurrences, repeatedly.) I reported it as a bug.

Later that night, stuff's working again. Then this morning, I'm back to losing items to uncatchable pokemon and being unable to replenish. I reported it as a bug.

Today at lunch, the issue is still there: every ball thrown fails, and I can't get more. This time I reported it as a bug and (since there's apparently no "customer service" field for voicing complaints) also pointed out that I won't be playing again until I'm notified of a fix and reimbursed the lost resources.

Anyone else run into this issue?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Nope, never seen that. But Weedles are the most wily of the trash pokemon as far as I've seen. What color was the ring when you went to throw? Even the <100 CP Weedles have yellow-to-orange rings it seems; they're just harder to catch.

Silver Crusade

Not yet, but I haven't been playing much today. Will investigate.

Sorry for the joykill Jiggy :(

Bright green. And not just Weedles, either; other green-circled pokemon have been breaking out a lot.

Additionally, I've had yellow-ringed pokemon (like bright yellow, not yellow-orange) break out five times in a row (each with a berry and great ball) and then run away.

During these times, I'm not successfully catching even a single pokemon.

Haven't had any problems today or yesterday, though I haven't made it to a pokestop today. Worked fine yesterday.

I have had more issues with Pokemon breaking out of late, but it's been more of a gradual increase kind of thing - I'm definitely still able to catch them.

I have seen reports that the patch over the weekend screwed up the catch rates and also made certain areas of pokestops either not load or not work. I haven't experienced it myself though. Catch rates have been pretty normal for me, heck the zubats around my office have seemed slightly less irritating.

Given all the reports on the reddit I have to assume they made some changes that have screwed things up in some cases. Its not clear why only a portion of the player base is experiencing the problem but outrage over it has actually forced the first public statement from Niantic since launch weekend indicating they were working on the problems.

Given the weird range of problems I think it might have been a server side caching issue. As an example, someone reported they couldn't see the poke stops in south east central park, but when they logged into the the wifi at the apple store (and likely went into a different server with a new connection) they were there and proceeded to work just fine.

During similar circumstances people have reported catching pokemon x but finding pokemon y in their collection instead. I expect the problem was you were looking at a 40cp weedle and the server had in the cache some much more difficult to catch pokemons breakout value.

This is pure speculation and it certainly doesn't excuse the bug, but its what I think was happening based on reports.

Back from vacation. I have to say, the day in DC was a little disappointing based off of everything I had heard. Only 2 new pokemon, Doduo and Tangela. The Exeggcute and Pinsir were nice additions, but I have seen those closer to home. Not sure what I was expecting, but mildly disappointed.

Going from Odenton to DC was a big change for me. Maybe not as good if you're used to better spawns than we get here? Or maybe it depends on where you are. I drove into town, so I walked a bit, drove to other places, and walked some more. I ended up mostly around the DOJ building area, Union Market, and the park.

Or, more likely, the update borked something.

Sat in a restaurant today for about 2 hours. There were 2 stops in the place, so 2 flares were kept lit by various patrons.

Went from 1 magikarp to 8. Picked up a Slobro that is tougher than everything else I've got. Some other critters. Going to have to prune down the scrubs fairly soon as I've exceeded 60% of my pocket monster storage capacity.

I generally make sure to keep managed inventory constantly. THough the patch made it slightly less annoying, if you leave pruning out the less useful pokemon for too long it gets very tedious.

Where in DC were you? Location definitely matters even in larger cities.
