Survivors of Burnt Offering (Spoilers)

Rise of the Runelords

Last night my party finished up Burnt Offering, and we have some surviving bad guys I'll break down each. I would like to know what you guys think I should do or what you have done with them.

So in the Glass Works Tsuto survived and is being held waiting to be transported to Magnimar to stand trial.

After clearing the first level the hero went back to town and rested. In response Orick Lyrie and Bruthazmus fortified the area heading down to the third level. After both Orick got his head caved in by a Thor (Magus) want to be on a DC 45 Coup de Grace. While Bruthazmus got smited to death, Lyrie cast invisibility and snuck down to level three to hide. But our heroes left again to rest so she also left and high tailed it for Safety.

Nualia was taken down from a crit from the same Thor want to be but the War Priest of Sarenrae wanted her to stand trial and Possible redemption for her sins so they took her to Sandpoint to be transported to Magnimar along with Tsuto.

So what do I do with each of them I have some ideas for each just putting out feelers to see what you guys think.

Tsuto I have been planning on him joining with the skinsaw cult, but I dont really have a plan for the other two any suggestions?

The Exchange

If the players have good ideas and/or good dice rolls let there be succesfull.
Maybe there are allys for the future.

It's not without reason Sarenrae is so beloved.

On everyone who gets thrown to prison, I'd recommend you read Magnimar pdf.

Why? Because Magnimar's largest and only prison Hells'... Since only crime punishable by death in Magnimar is treason, the lowest three levels are populated by demoniacs, cannibals, serial killers, folks possessed by fiends, etc horrible horrible criminals. Fun fact: After a prison riot, those three levels aren't in control of guards anymore :D Guards basically sealed off the lowest three levels in hopes the prisoners would die out, but they haven't. Guy in charge there is rather psychotic man named Sir Aeryn Darvengian(rogue 4, wizard, 3, arcane trickster 4)

Basically, Nualia's deal with Lamashtu is probably enough to have her thrown to Hell's three lowest levels, probably along with Tsuto since he helped her, where they would most likely get recruited by prison's headhoncho in the inevitable "Well we are bored down here so let's do prison outbreak" situation.

Well I was thinking Ironbriar would be Tsuto's father and have him working with the cult and I kind of want to stay on story because we only play once a month so I would like to keep the story moving forward.

But Ironbriar will be the justice for both their trials so the outcome will be manipulated to further the cause.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

One thing you *shouldn't* do is have them all come back to haunt the PCs, unless you want them to learn that they should kill everyone. Don't punish the players for being the good guys.

Tsuto has a grudge, but it sounds like he's going to jail or perhaps to th gallows. Lyrie was a hired gun, and is probably fine just leaving (after shedding a tear for Tsuto), or perhaps waiting for Tsuto to get out of jail. Nualia is going to be executed. None of them sound like they have a reason to return to your campaign.

Bruthzamus could return as a foil, especially if Shelalu is around and active in your campaign.

So I am planning on Tsuto and Nualia returning with the help of a certain justice in charge of the case.

I don't think Xanesha will allow one of her brightest pawns Nualia to be executed when she has a justice in her pocket

Lyrie will likely be long gone I agree

I already said that Magnimar doesn't do executions even to horribly genocidal criminals(raising a cult of goblins to shack Sandpoint doesn't fall under the category of treason :P) and major criminals in Sandpoint are sent to Magnimar(thats confirmed with guides on what happens to pcs who are caught murdering Ven Vinder) <_< Ah well I'm ignored.

My take on whether defeated enemies should come back to haunt PCs is situational on the scale of "How much sense it makes". In this case, they would probably be a threat, but unlikely to affect during campaign since its unlikely the prison break would happen during campaign since players aren't going to spend that much time in Magnimar unless you change things. They'd be more likely to come back if you are ever going to run a home campaign in same world xP

(heck, Ironbriar could let those two to be taken to prison to have them work as contact to more horrible criminals there. They DO have some sort of contact with outside world since otherwise they'd have starved to death there xP)

Just to ask, why is it popular change to make Ironbriar related to Tsuto? I mean, they don't really have much in common, its not like all half elves and elves with dark hair are related to each other xD

So Tsuto joined his fathers band of merry murderers, he was hell bent on taking out the guy who took him out during the very first adventure. He turned the Hunter into a pin cushion almost killing him multiple times got him down to negative 11 one round. The players couldn't figure out why the cultist with a bow kept shooting the hell out of him, till they discovered his identity and then the whole table laughed and enjoyed it.
