Want of Force Missle--Is it a Magic attack?

Hello,

My search is coming up empty for this particular question: When using Want of Force Missle, is the "Magic" trait applied to the combat? In other words, if it is one of the various Monster types that remains undefeated if Magic isn't part of the combat roll, would the Wand of Force Missile defeat the Monster?

Research in other threads boils down to "If the item is 'For your combat check' then all of the traits of the item (generally weapon) apply". However, this particular card calls out that it is an attack with the Arcane and Force traits. My assumption then, is that the Magic trait does not apply.

Thanks for any advice.


The item has the Magic trait, ergo so does the combat check using it. I've no idea why it says Arcane when the item is already Arcane and thus, gives the Arcane trait to the attack. I suspect it's some remnant of old templating.

Since it defines your combat check, you add all of its traits to the check.

What *I* want to know is, when someone plays a blessing on your check, what die do you add? You're supposed to add your skill die, but there is NO skill used on this check.

One presumes you'd add a d4, since that's all you're rolling, but some might argue that you can't do something that's impossible, like adding a skill die when there's no skill involved.


This comment from Vic explains the reason sine traits are mentioned even though unnecessary.

Thank you, Zhayne and Hawkmoon for the quick and helpful responses. I assumed all of the traits were added, but the card text made me wonder if this was a case of "the card does what is says".

Suddenly the wand is much more appealing for knocking out those pesky monsters that require a magic attack.


Wand of Force Missile is a card everyone ditches, right? :)

You add a d4. Yay.

If you play Guidance on the check though, you can add _two_ d4 with a Blessing of Pharasma! Blessing of Abraxas, on the other hand, just straight up adds 2d4.
