Iron Dragons (Iron Gods w / Kobolds!)

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 67 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Well, real life has depleted our little snarl and we need one or two more brave and cunning kobolds to join our merry war band.

Current line up:
Drahlneep- savage technologist (Barbarian)
Jeji- trap breaker (Alchemist)
Perrik- lore Oracle

We are near the climax of book 1 which means the cool tech weapons are within reach! so there's that.

Character creation: 2nd level, 20 point buy, 2 traits, lets go with average starting wealth for gear.

Kobold PCs
–2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence: kobolds are fast and a quick study but physically weak.
Small: kobolds are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Normal Speed: kobolds have a base speed of 30 feet.
Darkvision: kobolds can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Natural Armor: kobolds gain a +1 natural armor bonus to AC.
Crafty: kobolds gain a +2 racial bonus on Craft (trapmaking), Perception, and Profession (miner) checks. Craft (trapmaking) and Stealth are always class skills for a kobold.
Light Sensitivity: kobolds are blinded for 1 round if exposed to bright light, such as sunlight or the daylight spell. Kobolds are also dazzled for as long as they remain in areas of bright light.
Languages: kobolds begin play speaking Draconic.

I will make a submission for the end of today, I'm thinking about a Kobold gunslinger.
Do you allow alternative racial traits for kobold?

DOT! this will be fun, even if I don't get selected XD what better chance to make a wizard kobold (who, ofc, trys to make people think he is innately magical like the dragons)! haha

This does sound fun. Is there anything special to the backstory explaining why an all-kobold team is tackling this one?

I'm thinking witch. Puffing yourself up with magic that you don't really understand seems like a kobold kind of thing.

actually, I think I'll go arcanist instead.

I have an idea for a tank character that I can adapt into a pretty cool kobold. Build forthcoming.

Here he is, a 'tank' that darts around. A talker, thinker and stargazer.

Jurno "Greenshock" Madtail For his voice, think, something close to smeagol from LotR (not gollum), but a bit less raspy, more energetic, and spoken quicker.
yes yes yes, Greenshock is here so do not worry-fear! Greenshock is great-good addition to warren.
In draconic Trust me, my arcane abilities are an effective and quite efficient fit to any small warren looking for such!

SPECIAL/CLASS ABILITIES

Consume Spells:At 1st level, an arcanist can expend an available arcanist spell slot as a move action, making it unavailable for the rest of the day, just as if she had used it to cast a spell. She can use this ability a number of times per day equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). Doing this adds a number of points to her arcane reservoir equal to the level of the spell slot consumed. She cannot consume cantrips (0 level spells) in this way. Points gained in excess of the reservoir's maximum are lost.

Arcane Exploits: Force Bolt (1d4+level force damage) I am reflavoring this to look like neon green electricity jumping from Jurno to the enemy, letting out a small explosion (or, more like puff of cloud) on impacting the target.

Background:

Jurno was but one among many, all but nameless he was forced to work hard, long hours for nothing most of his early life. However he always felt smarter than other kobolds, he often could come up with better ways of doing things and so eventually rose in importance in the clan. He eventually had a "good" life, by kobold standards, which normally mean serving the closest thing to a dragon he could find, while not dieing and keeping a full belly. And he was content with this, until, he stumbled across a large tome, almost half his size written in cryptic languages. He begin trying to read it, and, surprisingly, he began to understand words. He didn't know them, or, at least, he didn't think he did but he knew what they meant! Now, Jurno had always been a bit eccentric, even for kobold standards but after finding and reading this book he became even more eccentric. He spoke of reading the book as if it spoke thought-words to him. From these thought-words he produced magic. At first, he only could use small magics. He would pick something up several feet away from him, or snap his fingers to create a spark and make a flame. These abilities, minor though they were slowly increased Jurno's confidence and soon he had convinced himself of his superiority and strength. Eventually, with the though-words in his head he would go to challenge the leader of the clan for rulership. With the abilities he had gained he easily won, shocking the old leader to near death with a mere touch. However, as he grew he saw the failings in his people, he saw how they took to mechanical craft almost instinctively, how cleverly they built traps and other small trinkets. He hated how they squalored in servitude and fear when he believed they could do great things, just as their draconic ancestors did. Eventually his views and eccentrics would get in him trouble and he was forced to leave the warren.

Goals: Power, he wants to keep learning the thought-words (spells) from the book until he can lead his kin to a better future, and show them that they can stand shoulder to shoulder (in a manner of speaking) with dragons. He won't go out of his way to help people, but unlike most of his race he harbors no ill will towards other races, (though individual's that treat him poorly are certainly not forgotten). That said, he is likely to help most anyone he has no ill will against for a good enough reward and payment.

When he was born, Jurno was not only dropped on his head, but he was also subject to the presence of two great dragons clashing against each other fighting for dominance of the caves his warren made their home in. The shock from the presence and close proximity of such power and the knock on the noggin made Jurno eccentric even in Kobold standards. Basically, he is really intelligent, however certain aspects of his mentality don't function quite right. To explain the most obvious ones, it would be easier to show you. sooo... here ya go! To note, he never realizes he speaks differently when he speaks languages other than draconic, nor does he realize he speaks/reads other languages.

In character:
Huh, what is it? What what what?! OH! It want's Greenshock to tell it how Greenshock got its name! sit, sit, sit. Here, sit on stool-chair Greenshock will tell how Greenshock gained his name! Ahem, Well, it started many back-years when it found big-large book here! He hefts up a spelltome almost half his size For long time Greenshock open book, look at pages nothing happen but Greenshock keep looking, just curious Greenshock was. Then, one day book speaks thought-words to Greenshock's mind. Strange-different words Greenshock not know... but does know.. Thought-Words from book let Greenshock do magic, make Greenshock stronger! Eventually, Thought-Words show Greenshock how to create green-bright bolt. Greenshock use this power to take lead of clan, so other kobolds that not know Greenshocks birth name start calling Greenshock Greenshock. Simple-easy story yes? No! no, no, no! My book! Stay back! back, back, back! Good. Now, tell Greenshock how you speak-say Draconic? What, what you mean Greenshock speak-say in common?! No, no, no not possible. Jurno then speaks in Draconic. that's quite impossible, I've never learned or studied those languages so their is no conceivable way for me to speak it, much less understand it.

Note: I'd like to play his "gaining spells" (both per level and copying) as merely figuring them out from the book he has. Like, the magic from the book, (which, if this game goes to high levels, would be fairly high considering) bound with the small amount of magic energy Jurno was born with (not enough to be a sorcerer, or even ping a detect magic, but enough to be "present".

White scaled cross blooded sorc kobold

Draconic/???? (Cold related)

=^^=

Hope to have something tonight

Oh, and here I was thinking this might have something to do with this. XD

In seriousness, I've lurked around your gameplay thread before. Seems like a fun idea. Hopefully you'll finally get a set of players who can stick with it!

Here is a Blue Kobold for you.

I haven't geared him up completely.

To answer questions, I do allow alt race traits.

As for backstory, the original conceit was that the Blightscale kobolds of the Echo Wood in the River Kingdoms were raided by humans nearly wiping out the tribe. A band of survivors was sent north into Numeria to find a legendary mountain of violet fire sacred to their radiation-spewing God, Gakzarra.

Unfortunately, we only have one kobold remaining who was directly affiliated with the original tribe. Incoming kobolds have been Numerian from bands displaced from their snarls in the Scrapwall by the rise of a warlord named Hellion.

Thanks! That game looks wild.

I have had fun running this PbP, but I like the long story and continuity which has been hard with turn over. I run two other games that are going on 5 years now with all the original players except two.

I am def looking for more committed players.

Seems interesting...

How do you feel about occult? Specifically I have been wanting to run a Kineticist, but a lot of GMs say no to occult off hand, so I have been having trouble finding a place to let him run free.

Would a golden-scaled monk kobold be alright? I wanted to make the wisest kobold in existence so I'll also be the nabbing the Guided enchant when I can get my claws on one for an AoMF. I was thinking lawful good but if this is an evil campaign I understand.

No prob with oddball kobolds. Part of the fun of making them a Numerian strain is that they can have all sorts of mutations.

The party has actually leaned toward good far more than I expected, but then why is it good to kill kobolds, but bad to kill humans? relative, huh?

kineticist sounds as much scifi as occult. so no prob.

Oddly enough, kineticist is "Avatar the air bender" in Pathfinder. The only one that I find easy to theme as occult is the telekinesis one, or the new void one.

Awesome...I have most of the crunch of the build done...just need to kit it out and make the fluffy stuff...

The kitting is surprisingly hard. What do you spend 1000 gc on for a class that is self sufficient? I bought a chain shirt (100 gold)...I feel like spending the rest on potions would be min-maxey...

I thought the average wealth meant the starting wealth of the class. Do we have 1000gp to spend?

Jurno "Greenshock" Madtail wrote:

No, I did mean starting wealth for your class. That should make it easier to spend ; )

Oh...yeah...much easier to spend...sorry, I thought it was WBL...oops.

Well that really changes things...35 gold spends much quicker than 1000...lol.

That's fine, i only need my fists right now. If you'll have me and the game is at a time I can make I'd be happy to join. ;D

Arrived home late last night. Will try to get a build in later today

Um...this is a pbp game right? I am not applying for a roll20.net game or anything am I? Don't have open avail for that.

It probably is, and that works out for me better.

I guess you would not allow a Wyvaran Barbarian or Bloodrager would you? Name him "Hoe-Door" or something...

Though more muscle would be appreciated, wyvaran is too much beefcake.

Also, to be clear, this is PbP.

I'm new to the messageboards, will you accept a mythweavers sheet?

Here is what my kobold would look like: Kolfucius

Lawful good gold-scaled kobold. He'd have the alt racial traits Wyrmcrowned and Day-Raider. Don't let the beard fool you, it's glued on because he's under the belief that as long as he looks like a wise monk people will start to believe he is.

LOVE it =^^=

IF we both get picked, i would really like for us to work on linking our stories :)

Seth86 wrote:

Your character's evil, right? I can probably see them as rivals, but I don't know about allies. My character wishes to reach true enlightenment. In my own campaigns he succeeds, but every heroic story has to start somewhere, so for now he's just a simple apprentice who realized the cruel, arrogant nature of kobolds was not what he wants out of life. Best way I can describe him- imagine Iroh from Avatar fused with Yoda and given a paint job to make him look like a chinese dragon.

I intend to build him so wisdom is his main stat. His AC, fort, will, diplomacy, attack, and damage will all be based on it. I plan to make him a party face of sorts (although he's too humble to call himself that, more like he enjoys meeting new people and learning new things) but he's an unchained monk through and through so expect many blows of the "flurry" variety.

Just because im evil cant mean we cant have a very interesting relationship =^^=

Gimini cricket ;) ying to yang

If you have an idea, let's hear it. :D My character's more than willing to at least listen to you. He's the first to admit he doesn't know everything but is still willing to learn anything.

awesome, well, we work together

Nixit believes his urges are from his bloodline, white dragons. We can be brothers, or friends. either way. Your character has "better" moral compass than Nixit. You try to steer him clear from acts that could jeopardise his soul. Just think about the discussions(arguments) and debates that can happen over acts

ex.
Let's just burn the house down, much easier
But there are people in there?!
Yes? Not my fault they want to stay in a burning building

Nixit: Let's burn the house down, much easier.

Kolfucius: The one with people in it? To what end will that accomplish?

Nixit: The house will no longer be in the way! Not my fault of there are people inside!

Kolfucius: True enlightenment comes from the challenges presented before us. This home, for example, is but one obstacle on our journey closer to spiritual awakening. Rather than taking a brute method and simply snuffing the lives of those for being "in the way", we should find another approach. One that serves to quell your urges for power without jeopardizing the lives of those that only wish to live in peace.

Nixit: .....you talk funny, you know that?

Kolfucius: Perhaps, however it was also enough time to let the people in the home escape.

Nixit: Wha- but...aw, DAMMIT!

Kolfucius: One less obstacle is one step closer to enlightenment.

Exactly! =^^=

Yeah, I can see it working. He could be spending all his time trying to turn you over to a more lawful existence too.

"You are the river, powerful and unrelenting. Let me shape you so such power flows in the right direction."

:D

"lalalalalalalalalala! I CANNT HEAR YOU!!!!"

yup, cool. this will be fun. that is if we both get in

Still looking? I'll submit a Kobold tanky fighter if so xP though it'll be odd with the -2 str I can manage it somehow i think xD

Just do dex fighter with slashing grace or something.

I have the build done in notes, just not anywhere online...I still owe both crunch and fluff.

Very busy at work just now. Hopefully can have it up by friday.

End of the month craziness.

OK, let's see what we've got so far:

Xazil- Tiberius (Swashbuckler)

Orcnextdoor- Jurno (Arcanist)
Ira kroll- Krzzt (Sorcerer)
Seth86- Nixit (Sorcerer)

Still waiting on builds from chuffster, teiidae, shogungari, BC4Realz, and baja1000. Less talkin, more crunchin. I'm not sure what Mythweaver is. You can just drop your stats in like Seth86 did for now.

I'll leave this open through the weekend. Let me know if I missed anyone.

Orcnextdoor- recheck your stats, I've got you at a 22 point buy.

whoopsie, fixed.

Ira kroll- I think you're at 14 points.

I think that you're also low, Nixit.

*sigh* I was afraid of that. I'll try crunching but I usually use mythweavers to calculate. Sorry if it's not right, I've never done it this way before.
