Online PFS (Text Only)

Online Play

So i'm having some difficulties getting into PFS. There are some games online, but very few are willing to do text only (Which is what I prefer)

I'm willing to play and to DM, but I don't know where to start. Anyone can give me pointers? I tried roll20, but again, no one wants to play text only. My timezone is GMT+7 and I'm free most nights on weekdays and all day on weekends

A reasonable thought -- but, if you're going to go text only, be aware that the game will run quite a bit slower than if you're using voice chat. Nobody can type as fast as they can talk, and most people don't type all that fast at all. (I'm a pretty fast typist and would be comfortable with this, but I know that I'm well above average in typing speed. I get razzed about it sometimes....)

If I was running a PFS scenario using text only in real time, I'd probably schedule 8 hours, or two 4-hour sessions.

Have you considered play by post? That is text only, but because it's asynchronous and played over time, it dodges the typing speed problem. It can be a lot of fun. Plus, you can play in multiple scenarios at the same time, as you typically will post roughly once a day, or a few times a day if it's a particularly active group. The typical PFS scenario will take at least a month (I've heard of a few weeks for extremely active games, but those are outliers), and more likely three months.

I'd be interested in text only real-time games, actually. Lots of free time once the family is asleep, but poor sound insulation means talking loudly will wake them up. I'm in GMT+6 and my weeknights are also free later in the evening.

Oh hey, someone in simmilar timezone! Do you have skype so we can chat more?

Yeah, Lamplighter makes a valid point -- my wife would probably prefer if I was doing text-only for my late Roll20 sessions.

If you have not already check the Flaxseed Lodge here on Paizo, check in there and tell people what you are looking for. There are already some groups playing "Real-Time PbP" games that may have a spot open.

Also contact Mike and Kris, our PbP Online Play VAs, and they may be able to help point you to someone who can help you find a game.

If they cannot help you out, drop me a line at the email address below and I'll see what I can do for you.

Somewhere out there there are some people who helped me try out running PFS on IRC. I'll see if I can't track any of them down (it was me plus two other GMs).

I'm curious as to how this actually works in practice. I've always found that Pathfinder relies too much on the tactical battle map to go entirely theater of the mind.

@michael: well, with a virtual table, this part is pretty easy

If your willing to take it slower, try play-by-post. It will give you everything you want regarding playing by text only and is actually a better avenue for expanded role-playing than any real time variety. I am currently playing All for Immortality part I, which takes about 5-6 hours in real time. We are wrapping things up...I think...and it took about 2 months. If that is too slow for you and you don't get enough opportunities to post without annoying everyone you can just juggle multiple characters/scenarios at once.

They are still using a VTT - they just type everything out in chat instead of using audio/video tools to talk.

It's just very very fast PbP.

I think GM Feral was rolling through a scenario in text only mode, took about 5 hours.
Look him up in the Flaxseed Lodge.

I would like to play as well. Central time zone
