Calculating Dwarf HP

Rules Questions

Hello,

I am new to the game and have watched people play around a table and just sat in on a roll20.net game...I have the core rulebook and have been reading up on it and trying to build my character.

I'm going to be getting in with a roll20 group and I was told to make my character a level 4 (donno why a level 4 instead of 1). The GM stated he does not do the roll dice for HP beyond lvl 1, its just the average and that's what he goes up. So heres my question:

I am playing a Dwarf Ranger with a con modifier of +2 and race bonus +2

Hit die d10 + 2 con mod + 2 race mod / 2 = +7 HP each level beyond 1st.

Is that correct??

When using dice to determine 'average', you actually have to take some decimals into account. In this instance, half of a d10 is 5.5. As a 4th level dwarf ranger, maxing your HP at 1st with a Con modifier of +2 you'd come out with 34.5 hp (which would be rounded down to 34).

Now you say you have a +2 bonus from being a dwarf? I'm assuming you mean that dwarves get +2 Constitution. I know it's confusing, but the bonus you gain racially is added on top of your base Constitution rather than being it's own seperate bonus, resulting in a total Con bonus of +3. This brings your hp up to 38.5 (38).
