So I have a pc who borrowed some expensive books from a library. It's a pirate town, so they expect people to steal the books from time to time. I want sone kind of monster to send after him if he doesn't return them. Any suggestions as to what a badass library might send after thieves?

- A Shadowdancer enforcer, who tracks the thief down, and then sends their Shadow into disable the thief as they sleep as the Shadowdancer breaks into their room. For added terror, allow the shadow to "pull it's punches" to reduce the target down to 0 Strength without killing their target. The Shadowdancer then stands over the helpless thief, and sternly warns them not to wander off with the Library's books again.
- Modified Golden Lion Figurines that have been trained to hunt down missing books based on scent marker. They can only be activated once a month, but then remain active for up to a week. Also, they're full sized, even in figurine form (and left flanking the front door.) A gnome wizard, permanently under the effects of reduce person, goes with them to issue new instructions as needed.
- Their most valuable books are trapped to release an Origami Swarm with a unlimited duration, but very specific task. The trap targets the last person to hold the book after it's been out of the library for 2 weeks. The swarm then attempts to return the book to the library by the most direct means possible (short of passing through water.)
- The library has connections with the outer planes that allow them to keep a Kolyarut on hand, one who focuses solely on "What is lent out ought to be returned."
- The owner of the library once presented a valuable tome to the Fellnight Queen. In return, the library keeps a number of Quicklings on retainer. They are sent to stalk the thief, retrieve the stolen book, and collect the appropriate fine: in gold or flesh.
