What is VMC?

I believe it's Variant Multiclassing.

Variant Multiclass - a system from the Pathfinder Unchained book that allows you to trade feats for limited class features from another class. More on it here.

Looking over the entries I have to say WOW. There are a lot of impressive and interesting applications. Frosty could easily field 2 or even 3 excellent parties here. hint, hint. ;) Seriously, I do not envy him the task of choosing.

I have to withdraw. I can not seem to get the build i am trying to get. Good luck to the rest. and enjoy the cold. =^^=

My advice would be to not run two parties. It takes serious bandwidth (more than I have) to GM multiple tables at a time. But I do agree that there are enough people here for another few parties. Maybe some other person will decide that they also want to GM this. It looks like it could be an epic adventure, and there will be many fine characters to choose from once Frosty has made his selections.

Hmm

There are always far more good characters than good GM's to run games for them, it seems, whether you're talking about in-person or PbP games.

@Rennaivx: Yes, the barbarian rage from VMC would be the unchained version. The problem with rage is that it will hamper a bit your spellcasting and a warpriest is all about casting quick spells amid combat.

Regarding additional parties, I prefer to run different games instead of 'copies' from the same AP. I'm already running a Wrath of the Righteous and a Hell's Vengeance game and since I also intend to make a table for the new Mythos-themed AP that will come to light after the end of Hell's Vengeance, I won't run another table for this game.

That being said, I really do encourage other players to try the GM mantle... I was always a GM for my in-person games and after a while I just gave up, whishing to also be a player. Now, in pbp, I've been finding much more fun in the GM side than as a player... I'm even refraining from joining other games to free me time for more games in the future!

It's normal, everyone wants to be the player and experience an adventure without trying to forget that he knows everything that is supposed to happen in the world. I'm planning to make a short game for new players like myself so we can get into the mechanics and spirit of PbP faster.

I actually prefer GMing PbP, but I enjoy seeing up close how other GMs tell a story from the player side too. Whatever happens with the recruitment I plan to watch this game for a bit. I'm thinking of running the first book at some point but would like to see how the story unfolds for another GM.

Hmm

I run a weekly pfs season game every Thursday f2f. It is nice to play pbp for me.
I enjoy DMing but its nice to check these boards and see "5" posts that i havent read yet...lol.

Unfortunately a lot of games end prematurely due to player--or recently--DM inactivity...keep on keeping on..

I would not truly encourage Frosty to try to run two parties. I have seldom seen that work out well. I run a Thursday night game too. I prefer to run IRL but am considering starting a PBP. Thinking Mummy's Mask as I really like the setting. I'll have to master mapping for PBP and to tell the truth it intimidates me a little.

I really like how PbP allows one to play a little bit every day. It really helps scratch the 'being a player' itch for me, since face-to-face I GM three separate campaigns three days a week but play in zero. I love GMing, I even recently starting running a PbP, but I was starting to get burnt out from never getting to play until I discovered PbP. It keeps me fresh and eager, and relieves the mental pressure of having so many character types I want to play but never really had the chance to before. (I have a personal weakness for prestige classes :P ) But I'd agree that running multiple simultaneous instances of the same campaign is extremely difficult. I tried that with Rise of the Runelords back when it was the only one I owned. I had a hard time remembering what had and hadn't happened for each group after a while, and the group that was behind invariably had the harder encounters because I was more strongly familiar with them. That might be easier to avoid in PbP with its permanent text, but I wouldn't want to find out o.O

I GM a lot IRL as well. This is the only place I have been able to scratch the itch lately.

@Freyja, mapping really isn't that big of a problem! I spend way more time typing and editing posts than I do setting up the maps.

Painlord's Guide to PbP GMing sets out some easy options, especially Google drive. I myself use Roll20, but that seems to require the most "learning" of any option I've seen.

Whichever method you pick, I'd recommend setting up several maps in advance, so you can quickly pull them up, ready to go, when the encounter comes up.

Oh, and to avoid derailing the thread: something something ice witches!

I'd agree - I'm usually GMing two games at once, but two of the same game would be really tough. I can definitely see how losing track would happen with two sets of the same instances to confuse things.

Freyja, I definitely encourage PbP GMing - I actually enjoy it even better than IRL! I benefit from the extra time to compose my thoughts, and being able to do things a bit at a time lets me pull in way more details without wearing out.

Mapping seems intimidating, but it really isn't. The different Google apps (I use Slides to keep all of a campaign's maps in one document) are really easy to use and super widely accessible (Slides even has a phone app). All I have to do is either extract a map image from a PDF or Google for the right generic image, paste it in, copy and paste in the characters' avatars, and I'm good to go - five minutes tops, unless I'm having to heavily edit an image (and Sumopaint is a great free tool for that).

(If you do end up running a game and need a hand with anything, hit me up and I'm glad to help - that goes for any considering running a game.)

Something frostbite, something something stoic-Ulfen-ness - back on topic, too. ;)

Freyja,

If you'd like someone to help mentor you through your first PbP Gming experience, I and I'm sure others would be happy to do so. My recommendation is doing something short like a PFS scenario. I'd be happy to help you extract the maps, too.

Hmm

Hey Frosty, I changed Lyrev to an oracle of winter/boreal sorceress vmc to fit her background better. Now, I might take the mystery cultist prestige class later on. I hope that's okay.

Also according to the rules on Variant Multiclassing, VMC can only give spells from the Variant multiclass class (say the sorcerer class) if the GM allows it. Are you okay with giving spells to VMC players?

This is the second recruitment thread, where everyone (I haven't read them all, yet) had a really good entry.
I am glad there are so many good gamers out there.
I haven't DMed PbP yet either. I have DMed many F2F games. I too feel some intimidation at the full, all in commitment involved as a DM. Also, I am not the tech-wizard that others have been gifted with...lol.

I applaud all you PbP DMs and homegame one too!

I feel, as a player, that PbP allows me to really get into my characters.

Basically, I ditto Leedwashere.

Problem, mobile phones are very limited in mapping options. I.E. google docs, including slides, can't be edited. Not sure about the google apps, but a phone can't always handle it. A lot of android apps are intended for android tablets which have more power than a mere phone. Bigger super phones might have the power I guess, but not everyone can get those.

To keep on track,

I think you have a slightly mistaken impression, Lyrev - VMC had nothing to do with spells, even if you VMC into a spellcasting class. The feature gives precisely the class features listed and no more, which means for a sorcerer you get the four sub-level 20 bloodline powers and either one of your bloodline's bonus feats or Eschew Materials. Might still be worth it, especially for theme, but you definitely don't get any spells from it.

And you're right, Frosty - I'd forgotten that rage inhibited spellcasting. Ranger it possibly is, then! :)

Just to add my opinion to the mix, while trying to stay somewhat on topic, I would like to say that the amount of creativity and care put into each entry here has, for lack of a better word, astonished me. My only exposure to character creation is my friend's home-brews, and Society play. To sum up each, A buddy started a Magic the Gathering themed campaign and asked us to make our own planeswalkers. It ended up being my self made character who I wrote how his spark ignited and his powers and experiences, then there was a Jace (Human psychic with the amnesiac discipline), Chandra (Female human Pyrokinetisist), and Nissa (Elvan elementalist Druid).

As for Society, they all made characters purely by the stats, and even gave them names such as Rodeblok, Slash, and Brjute. To come here after all that to see so many people take the time to incorporate the need to journey north, norther lifestyle, and subtle personal touches, such as actually personality, a deeper connection to the ice theme, and more reason to adventure than "Because there's treasure out there" is amazing to say the least. I have little hope in being one of the four chosen to play, (though I'm by no means dropping out), but from what I've seen, whoever is chosen greatly deserves to be picked because you all showed one thing I've just never seen yet: a love for the game.

Any way, now that my rambling is over... I must say, this recruitment post is a cool place to just chill and enjoy an ice time with all you guys who snow how to have a good time.

P.S. Sorry for the long posts. I swear they won't be near as bad when I actually play. Best wishes to all.

Reminder to anyone who's got work left they want to do - tomorrow's the day! :D

Not all society play is like that, especially in PbP. Both my Ironbound Schism and Doom Comes to Dustpawn games had players who really knew their characters and brought tons of beautiful RP and thoughtfulness to the table. It was an honor to GM for them!

Though I have to agree that PbP in the longer stories often goes beautifully deep. I'm in a Mummy's Mask and a Kingmaker game on here that both are pretty magical in terms of the inter-character chemistry, and thought that has been put into the backgrounds. My Harmose in Mummy's Mask may be my most complicated character ever. Something as complex and conflicted as him would only work in PbP, where thoughts and internal monologue can shine, especially when contrasted with body language and dialogue.

It was fun seeing all your great character creations here. This was a great recruitment to watch, and I don't envy Frosty his difficult choices!

Hmm

@Frosty: Sort of random question. What would a night's stay at the inn in Heldren cost? Looking at the goods and services prices for an inn stay, I realized that Evelina probably can't afford it. Which I quickly realized is completely in character and gave me an idea for how she might be introduced in the unlikely event I survive this highly competitive recruitment thread. My idea is that she ran out of money on the way to Heldren, with the attitude, "Whatever, worst case scenario I'll just camp outside somewhere." Then it started snowing in summer and she is starting to panic.

Then someone walks by completely unfazed by the cold and then sits down across from you and stares at the falling snow.

Now now Selena. You know what our host here said about role-playing in the recruitment thread. Still, I understand your eagerness.

Just suggesting how we could have met. Honest.

I have to admit that Ace Bolt is hurting my OCD tendencies, it is Bolt Ace - although they both sound like friends of Buzzlight year :)

One Day More (a song in honor of all in this recruitment):

[Cadence]
One day more!
Another day, another destiny.
This never-ending road to PbP;
One last time in this wintry clime
Will I see you all a second time?
One day more!

[Chorus]
We did not live until today.
How can we live when we are parted?

[Cadence]
One day more.

[Chorus]
Tomorrow you may be worlds away
And yet with Frosty, our world has started!

[Cadence]
One more day all on my own.

[Chorus]
Will we ever meet again?

[Cadence]
One more day with all the waiting!

[Chorus]
We were born to be with you.
The snows begin to blow
The summer fading through
Adventurers beware!
One more day before the storm!

[Cadence]
Do I follow where they go?

[Chorus]
At the edge of Heldren
Shall we join our colleagues there?
When our ranks begin to form

[Cadence]
Do I stay; and do I dare?

[Chorus]
Will you take your place with me?
The time is now, the day is here

[Cadence]
One day more!

[Chorus]
One day more to revelation,
Forty profiles full of win
We’ll cheer on the lucky chosen
Now their story will begin!

[Cadence]
One day more!

I loved seeing all your characters, and what Frosty has inspired here.

Neither just a situation that was fostered upon me for being the eldest young adult, which meant i got baby sitting duty at family gatherings

Yay for today!

Too many good choices to root for, so root for everyone, especially me. :)

Nervous....

Hi guys! Thank you very much for your attention and interest in my game! I'm really pleased that all my games so far ended up with a pretty good number of awesome players for me to choose from. When the decision time comes I'm also somehow sad not to be able to make a spot for everyone of you.

With no more delay, I'd like to invite the following players to join me in the discussion thread that will be up in the following minutes:

Arvanya Pertovi
Astrid Gunnarsdotter
Blaze Oriel
Evalina Silverblade
Freyja

Yeah... I had to go with 5 players instead of 4 in the end, but 6 or more would be a crowd and too far away from my comfort zone.

I'd also like to ask Cadence Anakevo, Cithembi, Malian Azlanium, and Soliana of the Rose to keep a look in your message boxes in the unfortunate case of one of my main PCs needs to leave.

That being said, it was a pleasure to have such awesome players here and I really encourage that any of you take the GM mantle and offer this incredible AP for the other players.

Thanks again and good luck for those that were not selected!

With the stiff competition, it's an honor to be chosen as an alternate. Have fun, you five! Out of the five AP's I've played or GM'd, this one's my favorite. You're in for some real craziness!

Good luck everyone and thank you gm for the opportunity!

Good luck to all chosen and have fun! Can't say I don't feel a bit sad that I won't be with you, but at least now I'd be able to put my undivided attention in my home brew scenario for new players.
