Can We Get Some New Character Images for the Boards?

I am just BEGGGGGGGGGGGGING, please?

KC's patented new-avatar-getting method: Pester the Postmonster a lot close to April Fools' Day. If you're lucky, he'll turn you into, I dunno, Strawberry Shortcake or something.

In seriousness, new avatars would be nice, but it's probably a lot of work to get them all placed in and categorized. It's not high-priority for me. Honesty, a slightly more convenient avatar searching system (where you can click or unclick multiple checkboxes without waiting a minute between each one) would be a much better investment to me.

Personally, I wouldn't mind being able to upload my own...just saying.

This is one of those things that Paizo should allow fan-sourcing for. User's could draw upon any Paizo or personal art, get it into the right specs, add all the meta-data, and submit for review by Paizo staff. And not just with new stuff, but it would be nice to beef up the meta-data on current avatars so the search function would actually be useful.

Sure, you're ready for a price hike of products so Paizo can hire a dedicated Duck Reviewer so that you can have custom art on forums?

We're not going to be enabling user-submitted avatars, or fan-sourced imagery. However, the quest for more shiny avatars is getting closer and closer up my list :)

Can we have another bag of devouring? I mean, I could use a change of the avatar once in a decade ;)

Chris, here are some requests that I have for great avatars to add:

1) More black elves and half-elves, male or female. I especially loved the elf monk from Ironbound Schism, Dhiara. More dark humans too. There is Lady Ziralia from Sun Orchid scheme. Also Magali from Consortium Compact!

2) More tengu. We only have two.

3) More asian women. A bonus if they can also be geisha bards. There is a lovely purple-haired asian woman in Blood of Angels that I would love to see as an avatar.

4) More attractive half-orc art, male or female. We have an image of Calisro Benarry in Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts. I'd love to have her as an avatar.

5) The wonderful sarcophagus mimic image from Risen From the Sands. Maurice (my party named him after they got him to surrender) was delightful.

Hmm

You know, personally I'd find it jarring if certain people (you included) suddenly changed avatars. I don't look directly at them, but in a conversation, my peripheral vision hints at identity for me. It's kind of neat how it works.

I know what you mean. I still have cognitive dissonance over Imbicatus' 'new' avatar. :)

But I would really like some new options. I picked mine just because it wasn't used by many people, but I'm getting very tired of it. I'd really like images from the Occult books.

And I’m sure* that a portrait of a noble and bold yet affable and delightful faerie dragon would be welcomed with much rejoicing by a grateful community!

Actually, any chance we could get fewer avatars?

I may have a few in mind, if you want some smurfgestions.

I've grown pretty attached to my avatar over the years, but I agree on the cognitive dissonance when you see a post by someone else with the same avatar as you, or as someone who's a major poster on the boards. I've had "I didn't write that!" a few times, or my personal favourite "that doesn't sound like something wraithstrike would say, has he gone mad?"

More avatars are always welcome. And a small question for Chris: is there a "can't be a staff member's avatar already" restriction in place? I know the staff get to pick basically any piece of art at all, just wondering if that means the common user will never get it as an option. Idle curiosity, nothing more.

Can I get mine 60 feet tall. With swings.

As an addition to the above, any race that you can normally get away with playing as should probably have more icons available to it than the incredibly popular (but all incredibly similar) red lizardy outsider that is the Chatterer (which has about six). I'm looking at the Nagaji, Kitsune, Grippli, and Wayang (and probably others I forgot). I'm not sure why these folks don't amount to a flock of Dhampirs (six officially), other than the fact that tech folk don't normally encounter them as much as they do Dhampirs in the course of their work. Honestly there are more Triaxian's available to choose from and they are technically aliens from outerspace.

In that regard it might do to have more horses, mules and perhaps dogs and other animals that could be used as familiars, mounts or sources of nutrition. I know every evoker has their own piranha fish (which has four or five icons more than your typical pufferfish, parrot or mule and three or four more than your common horse who's not black and wreathed in hellfire) but still more diversity might be nice.

That and a couple of niggling tag corrections.

Oh and I almost forgot, perhaps some more official, big-eyed, long-eared Pathfinder elves. I have to use an Axiomite for my Calistrian bard/cleric (see above) which seemed odd, because I could search Google and three or four official ones sprang into view. I realize that the entire village of Falcon's Hollow are practically all Half-Elves but those folks had to come from somewhere. Older edition Elves are not as big-eyed and pointy as Pathfinder Elves and basically look like their Half-human Golarion cousins. Having more and better Elves (at least in comparison to other distinctive Core races - like Half-orcs, Dwarves and Gnomes) would be a good thing. As it is now, the Common, White-Coifed, Very-Obvious Merisiel represents half their species (or at least a very specific and prolific subspecies).

I realize that you can only include things people draw, but there are at least two good examples of all the above somewhere out there. I mean someone drew four or five piranha right?

Thanks again to the tech team for all you do and tell Drusilla the Bleak when you run into her on your coffee break that she left her black skull-pipped dice behind at last week's game night.

PS the Society for Equal Heights would like to note that because their constituents are half as tall there should twice as many Halfling, Rat Folk, Wayang and Gnome (sans incredibly offensive little red hat) icons as there are Medium-sized humanoids (and perhaps a third more Dwarves as well).

Thank you.

IANChris, but yes, Paizo staff have unique avatars.

Unique avatars are also handed out as contest prizes and...gifts from Paizo staff, and Kibold Cleaver demonstrated above.

Oh, and Magical Maggie of Magical Maggie's Mobile Market fame (We B4 Goblins!) because I think I am in love--don't judge me. And more scientific looking stuff since Starfinder is a thing.

Hey folks, I don't wanna ramp up expectations for avatars, but I can't take requests unfortunately. I only work from the pool of artwork that already exists in our products (so can't fabricate options that don't exist), and not all of that artwork is avatar appropriate (for various reasons like quality retention on resizing, color balance that may get muddy at 90x90px, or proportion issues).

Also, yes, some unique avatars exist for employees, former employees, some select contest winners, kobolds who seem to have an affinity for smurfing, and ponies.

I feel you man. But maybe you could see your way to giving us more Snorks and Trollkins. Oh and Monchhichis too, mon!

Oh, and which book did the wee blue free fellows appear in again? ;)

Grand Lodge

That's why I tried to make clear where I had seen some of this artwork from your products. In some cases, Paizo's made the art. We just don't have it on our boards!

Hmm

I just wanted to post something similar, but Hmm made it obsolet.

The only thing i could add: More cool halflings and gnomes please!

Stuff that. All should be Kobolds--magnificent, perfect Kobolds. Yes, Kobolds as far as the eye can see in dark.

How about less half-elves? I mean really they make up like 2% of Falcon's Hollow population and are like 95% of the important NPCs in that adventure. I don't mean to be a conspiracy theorist but.... Well, okay I do.
