I know generally multiclassing is bad, but backstory-wise my character rose up as a child on the streets, then learned magic from a magician (sorcerer). So as a chaotic neutral "magician", he steals others people's gold "magically" and charms/compulse others with enchantments.
What does anyone think of this?
2 rogue (cutpurse)
8 sorc fey (or cross blooded fey/impossible) atm

I think it is a good start to an arcane trickster that forgot to go arcane trickster. :p
Here is what a good arcane trickster roughly looks like.
Of course, if you are more interested in the Rogue Talents that doesn't help much. You could also consider playing a refluffed Investigator.

Rule one of being a caster: Never give up caster levels. On a sorcerer this is doubly bad as you gain spell levels more slowly.
What you gain from the rogue is worth nothing compared to what you lose from caster levels.
Just play a single-class sorcerer, take slight of hand, and a trait to make it a class skill. If you really want to play up the rogue angle, take the Seeker archetype and you get trapfinding too.

Alternatively, if all you want is a few tricks up your sleeve, the Unchained versions of Minor Magic and Major Magic are quite good. (one cantrip and one first level spell, the latter usable Rogue Level/2 times per day). With the feat Bookish Rogue, you can use a spellbook to swap those out. Because your caster level is your rogue level, it can work out really well.

Sounds like the perfect road for an Arcane Trickster. I know, because I went that way myself.

I'd say the best options are Eldritch Scoundrel, going 3p with The Trickster, or just going Bard, which fits the same niche to me.

I'd say playing a Trickster is an *excellent* way to go!! :)
