So...there are these two parts of Ethereal Jaunt -
An ethereal creature is...capable of moving in any direction, even up or down, albeit at half normal speed.
To me, that means moving up or down is at half speed, not in other horizontal directions, which would be at full normal speed. I also suspect that means in relation to objects on the material plane and not necessarily if you're only dealing with moving in the ethereal plane.
So, you could float up at half speed to get over the wall.
Treat other ethereal creatures and ethereal objects as if they were material.
The ground where everyone is standing is an ethereal object, therefore I revoke my previous ruling and the ground is solid and the Earth Elemental will have to burrow through it to get under the wall (or float up over it.)
EbonFist |
And that's all, folks.
I'll get started on the Chronicles.
Diazepane Ketal |
Thanks, EbonFist!
I do have a question though about the meta ... was there a reference to the Tapestry that I missed? The Aspis didn't use the tapestry, or at least not overtly, did they?
EbonFist |
I had the same question.
I'm actually pulling scenarios from this list -
This scenario is on the list but I don't know how it connected, either.
Diazepane Ketal |
In one of our other scenarios, didn't the Aspis open a second gate to the Tapestry from Varisia?
I searched for "Varisia" in 3-12, 3-14, and 3-25 but couldn't find anything. Am I just imagining something? The Diamond Gate that we stormed / will have stormed in 3-25 - did that scenario say where the other end of that gate was?
EbonFist |
The other end was supposed to be in Varisia but got subverted to go to Hell.
EbonFist |
Hey guys...looks like I never asked for it here and the reporting spreadsheet never got finished.
Can everybody provide me their chronicle information (especially day job,) so I don't have to go searching old sheets for it?

Mme Shardra |
Guys with the end of the Green Market scenario I too I have come to the end of a road, for both Shardra and myself.
I guess I've not enjoyed playing the shaman as much I had hoped; and without having a PC of my own to fall back on, any pregen I play will be progressively underpowered as we advance. I think I need a break, back to low level play and my own PCs!
It's been a fantastic journey through the Tapestry, and I have hugely enjoyed the stories we have built together. Thank you to all of you - I will especially miss Kal, Diazepane, and GeraintElberion in his various aliases.
I'd especially like to thank GM EbonFist, who has invested so much time and effort in setting the stage for us to play on. I lose track of how many scenarios of yours I have played through, but it has to be a dozen. Thank you.
Good luck chasing the echoes of Hao Jin - I will be cheering you all from the audience !
Tim

It's been a pleasure playing with you and I'm sure there will be other times. It's a small world.

More like 'frenetic', compared to other games out there - it's been fantastic. I count myself lucky to have played with you guys.
Castinus Fulvio |
Thank you, Tim.
I’m sorry that my slow, slow GMing hasn’t allowed Castinus the burst of XP he needs.
Not at all - Castinus was never going to catch up.

I have a couple of low level characters that could stretch their legs too. Druid and Wizard
hey...if you're doing lower lvl characters for PFS, i have a couple on the go...just wrapping up Heroes for Highdelve...i'll do some lower stuff with you...
I do have an urge to try out PF2E on here. I have been DM'ing Age of Ashes in real life (well, VTT now...) and have yet to experience 2E as a player. Might anyone here be interested? If not, would be delighted to do 1E instead.
On that last point, I'd be interested to hear your views on 2E, given that you are clearly hardcore players of 1E. Have you given it a try?
Tim
GeraintElberion |
I’ve not even given it a look.
All I know is what I could glean from listening to Glass Cannon’s PF2 podcast.
With so much PF1 left to explore, I don’t see the need for another system for me.
I’m more likely to try a system with a different genre. I do own some books for Delta Green and Starfinder, and I’m tempted to get Tales from the Loop.
Watery Soup |
If you want to try out 2e, you can sign up for Outpost games.
I'm running #1-03 (Escaping the Grave, levels 1-4) and I think there are 2 seats open.
2E is a different game. They're both called Pathfinder but it's best to consider it a separate entity and not try to draw parallels to 1E. Both 1E and 2E have pros and cons. I imagine a lot of people (myself included) play both because there's just so much 1E material from the past but all the new stuff is now 2E.
EbonFist |
I am definitely going to be sad to see you departing, Tim. That AP you ran that involved the storm is burned into my memory both because it was some of the first gaming I did on these forums (and solidified my love for the format) and because it happened to occur when an actual hurricane was parked over half my family. The way you ran the scene of the battle in the storm still sticks with me.
If anyone starts running games for a subset of this group, let me know. I have characters for both editions of Pathfinder (though I'd probably make a new 2e one) and for Starfinder. I'm trying to reduce my commitments but I'd rather drop random pick up games and play with a group I know and like to that end.
I've enjoyed 2e, so far. It is very much a different game but is different in a way I like. I'm not as obsessed over the details in it as I am in 1e and it feels easier to be effective without going through every possible permutation of a character imaginable. That being said, it feels like there's less customization available over there. But that might also be due to the fact that there is probably 5 times as much content for first edition.
I checked and I've run 13 Pathfinder games. As far as I can remember, they've all been for this group in its different permutations so your estimate of a dozen was pretty spot on.
And I'm glad that no one thinks the game has gotten too slow. I looked and this one took just over 2 months which is about 2 weeks longer than most of ours. I feel like we're slowing down but it sounds like that pace is ok with everyone.
That being said...I may slow down more as work is getting busier, I've picked up a freelance contract, I'm trying to get some of my personal 3pp stuff published/published in new places and I'm going to be running a table in the Starfinder special coming up during Outpost. Sooo...it may be a little bit before I get the next session posted.
TLDR: We're going to miss you Tim (but hope to see you around the boards). 2e and Starfinder are as good as 1e but in different ways. I'm glad everyone's ok with the pace but it will probably slow down, soon.

Thanks for the kind words Ebonfist!
That AP you ran that involved the storm...
Yes, I know the scene you mean, from Ire of the Storm. A great gang of people and a fun scenario too. The end scene for that one was great as well !
If anyone starts running games for a subset of this group, let me know.
Likewise. It's all about the people you are with. I'm going to sign up for WaterySoup/Diazepane's 2E first level game for now but I'll be on the forums spectating too...
EbonFist |
Okie dokie guys. Your chronicle sheets are HERE.
As usual, let me know if anything is wrong. I'll post here when I've got the next campaign set up (it may be a while.)
Diazepane Ketal |
Looks great, thanks.

If there's critical mass for a low level game, I will consider GMing after Outpost. Any requests?
Kal'ryon |
I have a level 2 Druid and a level 3 wizard. I would be happy to continue to play with this fine group!
Kal'ryon |
GM, Kal's tag line was off (he is actually level 8). I am sorry!
Would you be able to update with in-tier wealth?
Mylvwara Elberion |
Upon opening the chronicle, I was momentarily confused by your crazy American way of doing dates: 2nd of March 2021? Has EbonFist made a mistake?
EbonFist |
02/03/2021
February 3rd, 2021.
Any other way of referencing that date is as incorrect as driving on the left side of the road!
Diazepane Ketal |
To be fair, neither way makes any sense. 20210203 sorts properly on a computer.

I do this too!

Okay, so it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to fill my Outpost schedule.
I can run one of the following concurrent with Outpost. These are all ones I've played F2F or VTT to minimize the probability a PbP group has played it.
1. 10-12 Breath of the Dragonskull (1-5). This has a special place iny heart, it was my first PFS scenario ever, and Michael Sayre (the author) was my GM. I had a blast.
2. 3-06 Song of the Sea Witch (3-7). I played this on very glitchy VTT and I've been menaing to GM it so I know what the heck was happening.
3. 5-19 Horn of Aroden (1-5). I didn't have a great memory of this but remember being annoyed at the GM for some problems that seemed avoidable. Now is my chance to either redeem the scenario or realize I'm an idiot.
4. 8-22 Wrath of the Fleshwarped Queen (1-5). Straightfoward dungeon crawl. Not my favorite TBH and I think I've seen this on open recruitment.
Kal'ryon |
I have played exactly none of those- so anything is good for me.
EbonFist |
I also haven't played any of those and I have characters in every level up to 8th.
EbonFist |
Just found this in the latest scenario I'm prepping. It explains some of why the Tapestry was made -
As a devotee of the god Abadar, Hao Jin was drawn to explore the living and long-dead cities of many lands. She walked thriving city streets and explored crumbling ruins, and with each new adventure she added to her evergrowing catalogue of locations, wonders, and treasures that she would one day collect and store within the Hao Jin Tapestry as her own version of Abadar’s First Vault.
Watery Soup |
10-12 Breath of the Dragonskull
Reserving all 6 seats for now, but will do some open recruiting if Ichio and Castinus decline.
Castinus Fulvio |
Count me in - I'll be bringing a newbie Level 1 PFS character though. Probably a warpriest of Pharasma, though am open to rolling up something else depending on fit.
Castinus Fulvio |
... with each new adventure she added to her evergrowing catalogue of locations, wonders, and treasures that she would one day collect and store within the Hao Jin Tapestry as her own version of Abadar’s First Vault.
Aha ! Nice. That's a neat idea - make the Tapestry make a lot more sense. Is there a canonical story as to what happened to her?
EDIT: I cheated and looked it up :(spoilers, obviously)

Indeed, as I am reading in the next scenario you're playing (at least what happened to her once.)
Apparently, Hao Jin was the Ruby Phoenix and was killed numerous times and came back.
