Absalom Station

Anyone else thinks it looks pretty small in it's artwork? It also looks like a ship is making it's way to there. I guess if we knew the size of the ship, we would have more of an idea on the size of the station.

Also, where did it come from? Remnants of Absalom? I kind of like the idea the dome area is Crystilan. Whatever made the rest of the planet disappear was not enough to take the crystal sphere with it, but instead caused it to awaken. After all, the city could have been trapped in time to preserve it from Earthfall. When Earthfall was not as dire as predicted, the city's contingency never activated to release it.

I would like to see the continuation of Shadow Absalom as the bottom side of the station reminiscent of Dark City.

Honestly, the terrain in the dome looks like it's an entire continent sized landmass based on how the colors of the terrain change.

It looks like grasslands giving way to mountains, and the transition from grass to water is non-existant, meaning it either has no beaches or the area is so big they are too small to see with the naked eye.

Consider the following: Perception of distance is warped in the absence of a horizon and reliable reference points. 2 ships 100+ miles apart may appear closer than a car at the other end of your driveway

I'm seeing a vague resemblence to Atlantis (from Stargate: Atlantis)

The year is 4958. The name of the place is Absalom 5.

Finally, an answer to a question I have been asking repeatedly of Vic Wertz since May 2011.

I agree, judging size is essentially impossible in space, particularly in an artist's rendering... I think the bigger question is wither it's actually built from/around Absalom, the city or the island itself? Or just build by survivors/refugees/exiles from the city, and named in its honor?

It was the last of the Absalom stations...

I am sure it will be exactly the size of plot.

My question is what the hell are they doing with the Starstone? That's unlimited energy with the ability to make gods. That would be a hell of a thing to deal with.

Not necessarily, with only a 2D viewpoint and no signs of reference, we'd have little way of knowing how far apart the ship and station are.

Absalom Station reminds me of Galactus' childhood jacks set.

I could imagine the top half of the station being comparable to the Blue, Green, and Red Sectors of B5 or Deep Space Nine. While the bottom part of the station would be likened to the Grey and Brown Sectors of B5, Dark City, or the metropolis from Blade Runner.

It looks like the view from an airplane at high altitude.

I just see a bunch of Apocs from Eve Online placed vertically...

I am sure the worshipers of Brigh, Findeladlara, Torag, & etc. used some divine inspiration to harness it for a powersource. Would make a fine point of contention between factions on how to properly use it and who has access to it.

Presumably when Golarion went into the "We don't live here anymore" category, the Starstone went with it.

Current Starfinder headcanon: in the bowels of Absalom Station, in a dizzying labyrinth of tunnels and sealed tubes, a warren of underworld scum, hardscrabble refugees and nameless ne'er-do-wells has built a small community beneath the water reclamation system and the station's hydroponics labs. Thanks to the perpetual leaks and condesation on every surface, this area is known as the Puddles.

...It's Starday, Third Watch, and a small group of friends have gathered for a few hours to play an ancient game: Pathfinder.

My take: Starstone Cathedral is still there.

So is the bottomless pit around it.

The pit does not exit out of the station.

Anyone else want to know what happened to the moon and all its succubi? Does Absalom Station orbit the moon? Does it orbit the station? Did the gods steal the moon when they stole Golarion?

The lunar succubi, alu-fiends, and succubi-blooded tieflings rebuilt the moon into a giant interstellar orbship/operahouse, and now they roam the galaxy singing alluring songs and fighting the Mycon armada.

I would think the Somal popped off to wherever Golarion went. At least for science's sake. Tides and what not. Without a planet to hold it, the moon would not have enough mass to maintain an orbit around the sun barring magic. And the station would need something magical or sciencey to provide mass for a moon orbit.

Liberty's Edge

I'm just wondering what keeps it from floating off into space with the abcence of a planet to orbit around. As the sun around the galactic core the station should just drift away into the void or gradually crash into the sun.

Good point!

Ideas:
1) Small black hole at it's core
2) Gravity generators
3) Artifact
3) Magic
4) Giant engine
5) Stubbornness

Nonsense. In our solar system, the asteroids orbit the Sun much farther out than Earth does and have no trouble at all maintaining their orbits -- there is no lower mass limit for doing that. The only reason that Golarion's moon is gone is that whoever removed Golarion decided that the moon should go with it instead of being left behind. Some adjustment might be required to stabilize the moon's orbit to compensate for the sudden removal of its primary planet, but that should not be a problem for anyone capable of moving planets.
