Kitsune Game Master

To do an empirical assessment of the kineticist's powers this thread is an arena setting where a party of four kineticists will be challenged by different monsters or groups of monsters to see how they fare.


Kitsune Game Master

In the right corner wait the much loved six skeletons. To reduce the effect of lucky initiative rolls the groups will alternate. The larger group starts. The arena is unlimited in size. The starting distance is 20 ft. both groups stand in a line.

We now wait for the heros to show up.

"I'm ready." Korra states taking her place on the starting line.


Female Human Kineticist - Water

"Me too! Marique replies drawing two thirds of a circle with her foot in the sand around her taking a stand at the line.


Kitsune Game Master

Some rules suggestions:
- After the fight is done, everyone get's thrown into the fountain of endless well being (with the effect of heal, greater restoration, cure everything and true ressurection.)

- No healing items allowed. Only innate magic.

There could be other startup settings that would be useful and could be introduced later but for this first fight:
- The lines are the opposing frontlines which are in parallel at a distance of 20 ft.
- The arena is an endless plain with no obstacles and no place to hide.
- The fight continues until all members of one group are down and won't come back from that on their own.

For now everyone is level one.
First suggested fights:
Six skeletons (CR3)
Two rat swarms (CR4)
Six Goblins (CR3)

Let's see if we do that straight in a row, or as separate fights :)

Skrihl takes a five foot step backwards, drops a club and then uses a telekinetic blast to hurl it at the skeleton blunt and at normal ac

Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The skeleton laughs at the attempt as it is a throw into melee and terefore misses.

The next skeleton attacks Thraggurim.

Female Half Elf Kineticist

Korra decides to go for some of the distant skeletons taking one burn to create a fan of flames. She moves close and fires.

Fan of flames: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 DC 14

No matter what their reflexes are the two skeletons crumble to dust.

The next skeleton takes a five foot step to claw at Korra

"Stupid piles of bones." Thraggurim shouts as he accepts a burn and turns to manifest a stone club that he slams into the side of the skeleton next to him, infront of Skrihl
Attack, Bludgeoning, normal, flank: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Another skeleton is brought down.

The next skeleton moves to Korra and claws at her.
Claw: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8


Female Human Kineticist - Water

Marique sends a stream of water at one of the skeletons threatening Korra.
Attack+PPS: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

As the first skeleton is already dead it's Skrihl again. One skeleton is standing in our row and two with Korra.

Skrihl attacks the closest Skeleton with the club he missed with before, throwing it telekinetically
Attack, normal AC, I assume into melee as it is the one in our line: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
He then moves as far back as possible

With what? Is it a hit into melee, or is it a miss because ranged into melee? Or are you targeting touch? I need some help here. Assuming telekinetic blast against AC into melee is a miss.

Korra takes a step back out of melee and throws a fire blast at one of the two skeletons.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Fire: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

The skeleton doesn't withstand the fire.

Thraggurim's skeleton tries another time to claw him.
Claw: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Claw: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
But misses again.
With Korra and Skrihl gone the skeleton is now only in melee with the dwarf.

"You have nothing on the giants of home!" Thraggurim shouts as he again accepts a burn and bashes the skeleton

Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

The mighty smash slides off the skeletons armor with no effect. AC 16, sorry


Female Human Kineticist - Water

Marique sends another stream of water at Korra's remaining skeleton.
Water Blast vs. AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Flushing away the bones. The last skeleton stands next to the dwarf who might take a step away to clear the path after he notices that he didn't hit.

The skeleton almost notices that it was attacked. Luckily Thraggurim stepped away or he might have been hurt.

Korra throws a fire blast back to the skeleton standing in her group's starting row.

As the last skeleton crumbles the loud toll of a large bell is heard and a swarm of rats appears on the line where the skeletons started. Directly in front of Korra.

They move in her direction and swarm her.
Swarm: 1d6 ⇒ 6 (DC 12 against disease)

"Eeep! Someone save me, that is creepy and it hurts!" Korra screams.

Marique splashes the rats with a stream of water.

Thraggurim flings shards of rock at the swarm out of the ground

Korra moves out of the swarm and back to their own baseline. From there she throws a fire blast.

As the last rats run away in all directions the large bell tolls again and six goblins appear out of nowhere on the opposing line. All of them come running over and set themself in flanking position around Korra, Marique and Thraggurim. Only Skrihl is spared as he is still some feet further away.

Korra takes a step to the side again and creates a fan of flames by taking te energy out of her life force.

The one already burned and the one failing it's save drop to the ground. The other one is also burned badly.

Thraggurim moves to flank a goblin, accepts a burn and stabs at its back

The Goblin drops to the ground.

The two remaining goblins attack their respective counterpart.
