I like the ties to the gnoll race, work more with that.

Animal like races have been a thing for a while, and have existed in fantasy for a while also, there are a lot of different ways to fantasy.

Standard race values oughta include full scent, and a racial bonus on Perception and Survival checks. Skip making either a class skill, as most of these gravitate towards druids and rangers already.

I'll see about that. Also full Scent is an alternate trait.

Questions for everyone:

1. Should I give them a favored class bonus that lets them gain a new spell known?

2. Should I get experimental and make it +1/2 Spell from (insert specific classes spell list here) for a different class. Like letting a Sorcerer have access to a bonus spell known from the Druid spell list.

That last thing sounds like a racial archetype.

Favored Class bonuses should reflect the lore. Humans are versatile and very fast learners, so their bonus lets them learn more spells.

I don't know the lore behind this race to judge what kind of racial favored class bonuses to give. You'll notice most racial favored class bonuses function in a parallel way with respect to each other. That is, elf abilities usually add to uses per day of something, dwarves typically get something defensive or skill related to gems, and the bastard races get their choice of their own favored class bonuses or their parent raves2.

Point is, find a theme for all the racial favored class bonuses, as they are as much about the lore as they are about the crunch.

Good point. I'll look into that.

Hmmph. If you go with the Basic D&D lore, they should bonuses to Sommelier checks.

Heh!
