Welcome one and all. I'd like to present a recruitment for a new campaign based on themes and materials presented by FromSoftware (such as the Dark Souls series or Bloodborne) along with certain world aspects from a game called Kingdom Death. Rules will be based on the Pathfinder RPG, though with a handful of modifications (more on that later).

Characters will find themselves among the few to survive the end of the world, now transposed into a nightmarish landscape known as the Deep. There is hope, however, as they each have been bequeathed the Twilight Mark, granting them incredible potential. What they choose to do and who they will become as a result, is all up to you. This campaign will feature strong concepts of isolation as well as a good deal of combat and some exploration. Along the way you'll conquer strange landscapes, gain souls, and strive to keep the constant threat of going hollow at a bay for just a little while longer. Roleplaying through interaction with NPCs will certainly be present but is not a major focus of this particular game. I like to play things fast and loose when it comes to economy, diplomacy, and bartering to help keep things moving.

That should be everything you need to know to get started. Ideally I'm interested in finding 4-6 players who are willing to stick to a 1/day posting minimum. Recruitment is expected to be open for two weeks, but I may or may not it close it earlier or later depending on volume of submissions.

I would love to hear any and all comments that you may have! Post 'em below, or feel free to PM if you'd rather.

========================================

Remember those rules I posted earlier? Here's the details:
  • Characters will be beginning play at 6th level with standard WBL.
Characters generate ability scores using a predetermined array. This is described in further detail in the Player's Handbook.
  • Humans are the only available race for player characters. This is described in further in the Player's handbook.
  • All paizo content is available for use, with the exception of rule changes and systems introduced in Ultimate Intrigue (though classes, new spells, feats, etc. are still available from that book). Additionally, content from Path of War, Psionics Unleashed, and Spheres of Power is automatically allowed. Please be aware that all casting classes are required to use Spheres of Power and that this game will be using a modified version of the spheres. Additional 3pp will be considered but is not guaranteed.
  • Characters receive a free secondary class, called a Demi-Gestalt. This is described in more detail in the Player's Handbook.
  • HP is max for your first HD, AVG +1 for each subsequent HD.
  • Round out your characters and give them some depth, but please be aware that there is a strict limit of three paragraphs on character backstories. This includes any descriptions, sample roleplaying, or worldbuilding you wish to include with your submission. Brevity is the soul of wit and a major component of the Soul games, and that's something I plan on continuing.
  • Finally, there are a few changes, both big and small, that need to be observed in either character creation or the gameplay beyond. I strongly recommend everyone give at least a tertiary glance to the Player's Handbook before beginning work on a character.

  • Dot #LurkerClass

If I don't get picked in the other two campaigns, I'll be sure to have something drafting up for you Spooks.

Just wrapping up NG++ on Dark Souls III, be nice to have a game that actually recognizes ****ing poise. xD xD xD

    Armorist with miracles coming soon.

Edit: Are background skills in use? And AVG+1 HP, does that mean 5.5+1 or 5+1 with d10 as an example?

I'll be on a bit later again tomorrow, GM, but a few questions-

So far as RP I have

Natural Armor, Improved Natural Armor, Climb, Swim, and Fast (+10 movement speed)

If those check out, I only have one other question-

I 100% love the idea of the Hunter campaign trait, BUT, as a Fighter Class-

    1) How would you have me make a concentration check? (My Demi-Gestalt is Hunter as well, if that changes anything)

    2) No problem with buying a catalyst to use the shape shifting ability, as that pounce and scent feature is pretty worth it in my eyes, BUT- would you let my fighter use it efficiently for the purposes of this trait?

    3) If I were to put "wounding" as the enchantment on my Earth Breaker, would you allow that 1 Bleed Damage to count for the minimum of 1 damage hit die as listed in the trait, i.e. 1 bleed damage done from weapon = 1 HP restored to my "Yharnam Hunter"

If so, then everything is set and I just need to crunch. If not, I'll probably just switch focus to a different campaign trait xD No big difference either way!

What do you think of Shards of the Past as a Racial Ability?

Shards of the Past (4 RP)

    Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: Members of this race have past lives that grant them two particular Knowledge skills. Each member of this race picks two Knowledge skills. The member of this race gains a +2 racial bonus on both of these skills, and those skills are treated as class skills regardless of what class the member of this race actually takes.

Isn't it 5 RP? And the bonus to any two skills. At least at the reference document.

    Edit:

    d20pfsrd wrote:

    Ripsaw Glaive

The blade of this glaive is serrated and mounted on an axle with a heavy cord wrapped around it.

Benefit: A heavy cord is wrapped around the axle; when pulled (a move action), the blade spins rapidly for a number of rounds equal to your Strength bonus. While the blade is spinning, it deals +2 damage; otherwise, treat this weapon as a glaive. Re-wrapping the cord around the spinning mechanism is a full-round action that provokes an attack of opportunity.

Now, is there any chance that I can trade +1 enhancement for re-wrapping it as a standard and pulling as swift action?

Also, would you approve the change of human skilled trait for weapon familiarity, low-light vision, fast and sprinter?

Huh. It's only 4 at PFSRD.

hmm, this will be tough to figure out what to play.

Disregard that, I'll go with the usual martial weapon.

And as for traits - fast (x2) and sprinter.

Hmm. This looks cool, but relies on third party material I don't have, so that's the end of that.

Path of War and Psionic stuff is here. Sphere of Power is here. They are both OGL.

I didn't know they'd released spheres of power in an online format.

Thank you for that link! I'll read up on that.

What stats will govern pyromancy and hexing? spellcasting class or will it be a hybrid system?

Dammit, I forgot this in the OP of the last thread too.

The following Unchained rules are in effect:
Background skills, Unchained Disease, Unchained Poison, Stamina (requires feat access)

Round down for HP averages, so 5+1 in the above example.

    1) The Hunter trait does not automatically grant Beasthood, only access to it. You will need to select it using an available talent (such as from a level in a casting class). You use the statistics of whatever class you took Beasthood with for concentration checks.

    2) Related above, you would be using a Catalyst as a member of whatever class grants you Beasthood. Your fighter would not be able to "use" catalysts because a fighter is not a casting class.

    3) The Hunter trait always heals a minimum of 1 HP when you deal bleed damage, so yes.

This game can be played entirely with Paizo-standard pathfinder material. The three documents I referenced above are available via OGL online for free if you are interested in trying/learning new systems.

    Path of War
    Psionics Unleashed
    Spheres of Power

If there's anything else I can do to better accommodate your submission then please say so.

Whatever the casting attribute is of the class you have them in. For the sake of simplicity.

So will there a way to learn in game gestures, lol.

Gotta put everything in order, but concept is a knighlty knight. Optimistic and upbeat, which may or may not -depend on ho well would we fare- end falling to depression.

A warder of class, warrior of stats and truly chivalrous of heart.

Quick question, would you allow swapping some amount -or all- of the RP points we can get as alternate trait for a Powerful Build ability? I would very much like to follow DS's style of truly humongous weapons, and being allowed a Great Greatsword would be a nice start.

    Just in case:

Powerful Build as in 3.5 ed Half-Giant:

The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A half-giant is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.

Edit & Bonus Question: Regarding the Aegis class feature, and given the FAQ establishing that you count as your own ally unless it's writen otherwise or stupid to apply... would a warder benefit from his own Aegis ability?

    That'd be 3 RP.

    *cough* *cough* *cough*

I added another question, but you seem to have ninja'd me!

Well well... it seems that a Large Bastard Sword can be made even larger... good, good, let the Iron Tarkus flow through you! MUAHAHAHAHAHAH!

    Quote:
At 1st level, the warder's defensive prowess extends to those who choose to stay near to him. Allies who are within 10 ft. of the warder's position gain a +1 morale bonus to Armor Class and to Will saves under the warder's defensive aegis, her presence bolstering and shepherding the defenses of her allies. This bonus improves to +2 at 5th level (+3 at 9th level, +4 at 13th level, and +5 at 17th level). The warder does not receive this bonus, but may receive the benefits of this ability from another warder. If the ally cannot see or hear the warder, then the ally does not gain the benefits of this ability (such as if the warder is concealed or invisible).

Emphasis mine. Zweihander Sentinel archetype might interest you.

Zweihander Sentinel had already caught my eye. Maybe because it has Zweihander in its name and how could I resist that?

Working on it now, given that we are living Fromsoftware's wet dream's world but we come from what was before... are we allowed a lil bit of worldbuilding and "race" building? I was thinking abouy giving my fella knight some "giant blood" running through his veins.

Allowed, and encourage, as long as the whole of your characters biography does not exceed 3 paragraphs. I want you to feel confident with who your character is so that they can build their story.

Btw, what are the neighbouring regions? just so I can help write where are characters are from, etc.

In the case of the old world it doesn't matter. I encourage people who want to come from some nation or another to craft their own, or put in a name-drop or whatever. In the player's handbook there are at least a few places I have mentioned that can also be used as a springboard (People of the Sun covenant, Hunter Trait).

In the Deep there are no neighboring regions. The world as your characters may have understood all but ceased to exist.

Alright perfect, this works for me.

Consider me interested; reading through the Player's Guide now. Probably have a character for you by Tues, assuming real life doesn't intervene.

    repost under alias for campaign-

Gave you all the major crunch, stats, class, etc. GM as well as what it appears he can do within 2 rounds at max abilities combined, and the items he has on himself based on the total amount of gold we had to spend.

Enjoy! Background for you should be tonight as well <3

Uhhhh not to be that guy but, unless I missed something, you're way over on gold. Like, 20,000 over.

Has anyone figured out the secret boon in the Player's Handbook yet?

Two quick questions for you, JC Spooks:

    • Firstly, how do you feel about the Racial Trait
      Quote:
Defensive Training, Greater (4 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefit: Members of this race gain a +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class.
    • Secondly, the Dervish Defender's Two-Weapon Defense ability requires "wielding a weapon in each hand". Does it activate if I have Improved Unarmed Strike but are otherwise unarmed?

Not going to lie, I'm really, really tempted by

    Quote:
Lucky, Greater (4 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefit: Members of this race gain a +2 racial bonus on all saving throws.

Smells just a bit too much like cheese though, and I don't have an in-character way to justify it.

Both of those traits are fine.

For two-weapon defense I'm going to say no to avoid opening a can of worms over whether you can wield a fist. Can you take a spiked gauntlet or something for your concept?

Aww... You took out fire keepers. Damn.

Sorry, there wasn't much interest in them last time around so I didn't bring them over.

Oh yeah, he was just going to wind up doing a lot of unarmed strikes anyway so I wanted to know if I had to invest in weapons. Concept will be up tomorrow.

Some awesome themes and ideas here. I'll try to find the time to make a character.

Ho hum, well, I just adjusted my sheet, but is WBL not cumulative? Even 36k sounded low for level 6 encounters ^.^

I had been day drinking on a Sunday, though, sooo no issues either way xD

P.S. we might end up being on a team together in the Deep, NEVER worry about being that guy!

Sorry to anyone else aside from GM who saw my first sheet- making a character sheet while having fun is NOT the greatest thing to do ;)

Emissary's submission here. Maneuvers and class skills are still pending to add, but everything else is ready.

I hope the intro/flavour-text doesn't count against the three paragraphs limit, as well as the flavour text I intend to add to some items and abilities ^^

    Blood of Giants:

"We descend from the titans that held the world on their shoulders before humankind was born. We are the mighty guardians of knowledge and the flame. And you, our children, are the spark that will rekindle the bonfire"

In the cyclopean citadel of Eissenhorn reside the humans that descend from giants. Their devotion to knowledge and preservation of culture is only surpassed by their might and skill at arms. They are warrior phylosophers and marvelous smiths but they are humble and kind, for they understand the burden and embrace it.

Siegschwert was trained from a young age to become a Librarian Knight, a defender of written knowledge and sacred places from those that revere chaos. Bearing the Dark Sigil, he was considered to become one who would reforge the world in time.

During a revolt his face was burned by corrupted sorceries but his will never faltered and when the world ceased to be he remained on duty, protecting knowledge in every form: written, spoken and through the survivors of the cataclysm.

    Description & Personality:

Standing over six feet tall, and clad in his burly armor, while motionless Siegschwert resemble a guardian statue. A man of few words, he seems distant and shy to those who yet doesn't know him but in truth he is ever watchful. He finds joy in protecting others, for the blood spilled in duty is sacred blood.
His cloak is woven from gryphon mane, with the Librarian's Knight embroidened. He carries a sword no other men could lift, both a tool of war and a symbol of his responsibilities.

Ludwig of Albira is a tall, well built man in his late-twenties. His dark blond hair is cropped short, and he has green eyes. He has a few scars, especially striking is one that goes from his ear to the corner of the mouth - a ragged scar, as if made by a wild animal.

Don't be fooled, when you see him unarmed. He might surprise you.

Ludwig comes from the clan, who for generations have been serving on the borders of Albira, protecting it from invaders. Now when the world has ended, he turned his eyes to monsters and demons.

I'm mostly asking since I have not actually found a direct answer on my own, but could I choose to demi-gestalt my primary class with itself? I'm not really invested one way or another, just curious about my options

    The Nightmare Hunter
    Name: Phaneron
    Class: Slayer (Pureblade Archetype)
Ability Scores: The Hunter (Str 14, Dex 14, Con 10, Int 10, Fth 14, Cha 14)
Race: Human - Yharhamite (+2 Dex, +2 Wis, -2 Cha)
Gift: Soul of a Forgotten Handmaiden (Would love a trick weapon instead, but this seems nice)
    Demi-Gestalt: Aberrant Bloodrager

Once, Phaneron was a regular traveler. A human, normal, who out of curiosity sought out the secrets of blood healing. in the process, he was dragged into a nightmare of blood and beasts, the cosmos and creatures beyond his understanding. Against tremendous odds, he came out the end alive... but permanently marked by his experiences. The nightmare is a living thing, and it boils just beneath the surface of his skin.

Phaneron traveled abroad, leaving the empty city of nightmares behind. He fights the strange and terrible beasts and creatures from outside human understanding, using his own tricks, but you know what they say... You stare into the abyss long enough, you find that the abyss stares back at you. Now Phaneron knows that he is becoming the very nightmarish things he fought so hard against.

Characters may select a free Variant Multiclass at first level. The character does not have to sacrifice any feats for the secondary class and it otherwise advances as normal. This means a fighter who has chosen to variant multiclass into ranger would receive both the track class feature and the normal feat gained from achieving 3rd level. A character still cannot take levels in the secondary class she gains from this variant.

Emphasis mine. You can't have levels in a class that you're using with a Demi-gestalt. For example, you can't take Fighter and then demi-gestalt with Fighter.

Really quick, just wanted to say, covenants are not compulsory or required. If you don't see a covenant you like, your character doesn't have to follow one.

Sure, I'd handle it akin to trying to form your own religion or organization.
