Is Hellfire fire damage for the purposes of the dragonconic Bloodline arcana?

Silver Crusade

I have no idea what "Diabolist Hellfire" is, so I can't give you a definitive answer. But I can quote the sorcerer bloodline arcana, and point to the relevant method of determining that answer.

Core Rulebook wrote:
Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you cast a spell with an energy descriptor that matches your draconic bloodline's energy type, that spell deals +1 point of damage per die rolled.

So, is it a spell with the fire descriptor, or are you talking about a spell-like ability or supernatural power? If it's a spell with the fire descriptor, then it works with it. Otherwise, it doesn't.

Also, flagging to be moved to the Rules subforum. I don't see why this is PFS specific.

The Exchange

It alters spells to deal hellfire damage instead of energy damage, while the prestige class, while It is not specific within the ability itself usually hellfire does 1/2 fire damage and 1/2 unholy damage the later is not susceptible to DR. While I do not think it works due to the change in the energy type you might find some favorable table variation :)

fromper gave the clue does anything about the ability say it changes the descriptor

Was on the cell phone, so getting quotes is a lot harder (posting is really tough without a proper keyboard).

Yeah, the original spell would have to be a Fire spell (or one modified to have the fire descriptor).

Channel Hellfire: At 2nd level, a diabolist can alter spells that deal energy damage to instead deal hellfire damage (see page 5). She can do this as a free action a number of times per day equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). Spells altered to use hellfire gain the lawful and evil descriptors.

Hellfire CR 3

Hellfire is treated as normal fire, but deals half fire damage and half damage from unholy energy. Damage dealt by hellfire is known as hellfire damage. Evil-aligned creatures and creatures with the evil subtype take no damage from the unholy energy, but good-aligned beings and those with the good subtype take double the normal damage from it. Creatures under the effects of spells like protection from evil are unaffected by this unholy energy, though they may still take fire damage.

A typical gout of hellfire typically deals 6d6 points of hellfire damage. Aside from such gouts, whole lakes, burning clouds, pyroclastic flows, burning rock, and endlessly smoldering structures flickering with hellfire are known to burn amid the depths of the Pit.

So, In example, the Sorcerer+Diabolist of the Red Dragon Bloodline casts Fireball. The Channel Hellfire ability convert the damage to "Hellfire Damage." Hellfire Damage says it is treated as normal fire, and has two sub-types of damage that the Hellfire Damage deals (half fire and half unholy energy).

As I read it, the spell doesn't actually lose the Fire Descriptor, so the Dragon Bloodline bit should be in full effect, but I'm asking a second opinion.

For sources, this is CRB for the bloodline and Book of the Damned 1 for the diabolist & Hellfire rules.
