Form of the xx or xx shape spells question

Rules Questions

If I cast a higher version of xx shape and still be of a size allowed by a lesser version?
If so, do I still get all the benefits?

Example:
If I cast vermin shape II which allows tiny and large vermin, can I tun into a medium vermin which would be allowed by vermin shape I?
If it is possible, would I still get web, which needs vermin shape II?

In other words: Can I use vermin shape II to turn into a medum spider and get the web ability?

Yes

Thanks so far.

There has to be a vermin with the right size in the bestiary to turn into, right?
Or can I turn into a small version of some medium sized vermin ?

You cannot turn into a smaller version of something, a templated version of something, etc. You must turn into some existing creature.

Consult the Bestiaries' Global Indices to search for all vermin (I see roughly 100) or all vermin of a specific size.

The Bestiaries---one-stop shopping for all your verminous needs!

Look at the exact wording of the spell. Most of the spells have this kind of wording: "This spell functions as beast shape I, except that it also allows you to assume the form of a Tiny or Large creature of the animal type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: climb 60 feet, fly 60 feet (good maneuverability), swim 60 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, scent, grab, pounce, and trip."

So, you can choose the creature you want within those sizes, and you get those abilities if it has them.

Form of the Dragon is a bit different. You only get the listed abilities if you change into the dragon size listed in the spell. If you change into a smaller dragon, you have the statistics of that size dragon; at least I think that's how it works.

Thanks for all the answers.

The Beast Shape spells work the exact same way.
