Pre-Crusade Mendev

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I wondered if we had any details of Mendev before the crusade? Seems odd we have people there for thousands of years yet the only events of note began with the crusade a century or so ago.

Silver Crusade

It's because it wasn't there before the Worldwound. It was founded and grew in tandem with the Abyssal threat.

If you mean the nation that was there before Mendev and the Worldwound, Sarkoris, it's because, well, a big a%+ h#$* to the Abyss opened up and swallowed almost everything.

Edit: lol I put a space between ass and hold an it still censored it, even though I meant a literal hole XD

Mendev was a lot like Brevoy and Iobaria, with a dash of Ustalav, in that it was a principality (ruled by a prince instead of king) according to the Inner Sea World Guide they were considered "ne'er do wells" by their neighbors. It wasn't until the worldwound crusades that anyone started taking them seriously.

Sczarni

There is a decent amount of Sarkoris in the Woundworld campaign setting book. You also get a lot of it from the Novel King of Chaos.

So Sarkoris used to stretch all the way to the Lake of Mists and Veils? That's not what the map in Lost Kingdoms says.

Countries grow and shrink over time. Look at how big Lithuania used to be. 930,000 km2 in 1430; just 65,300 km2 now.

Also remember that in times where commnication and enforcement are sparse, borders aren't always the neat and tight lines that mapmakers imagine them to be.
