With the release of Ultimate Runesmithing, the Interjection Games Patreon has an empty "sugar daddy" seat. What is the sugar daddy seat? Basically, you put down a bundle of cash that keeps me fed and the next 12,000+ word book I write is done on the topic/core mechanic/theme of your choice!

The animist, master of forms, runesmith, and edgeblade have all had their genesis in this process, and, to date, the Interjection Games Patreon is the ONLY Patreon to produce a product with an Endzeitgeist top 10 nomination, plus it's run by the highest-rated crunch author of 2015, so you know your dream mechanics are going to be nothing short of awesome.

If you don't have $150 to drop on being my next sugar daddy, you can always join the Patreon as a $5 member. This gets you insider access to and influence upon the creation process, all at a price level that's significantly lower than buying the finished book through a conglomerated storefront.

not sure how to make it into a link, but copy/paste works :)

BTW, if I join your Patreon at US$5,00, do I get (and get billed for) *all* your releases, or just the ones that contain new base classes and/or cost at least US$5,00?

In the past people have been charged $5 for a package including one release with a base class, plus other non-class-containing releases that came out about the same time thrown in for free. You will never be charged more than you would be if you bought the products normally.

See e.g. IG's preview of March backer rewards.

... that was a good deal. Guess I'll sign on. Thanks!

Is there a time limit on this? I have to consolidate and sort through some ideas and gather mo ey for a month or two bit I have something in mind.

The IG Patreon is one of the main pillars of the business at this point. I don't see it going anywhere, Malwing, though the $150 might go up to $175 in a year or two to keep pace with inflation. It IS limited time in that I quite literally have a line, but I don't manage the line. A large part of the reason why I don't is that people playing musical chairs to buy my time is one hell of an ego trip. Also, I'd rather make books than manage lines. Make a numbers system if you care enough. I'll be writing about assassins. :P

...Or if the Patreon gets super successful and the books start getting cranked out at Ultimate size all the time.

Basically, if it's not a tiny expansion, and it's not something Kickstarted, then it's something the Patreon covers for $5. I try to stay over the $5 point to make it a deal, and failed once, but I gave a little expansion to everyone for free to make up for it. So far, it's been all base clases with a subset of the population signing on for a series of three magic items booklets (10 pages each). If somebody asks for not-a-base-class when they take the $150 chair, however, it'll happen.

...Oh, right. Muscle wizard. I forgot about that and ran out of small product ideas. Fine, let's dust that off and work on it in between Kickstarter and Patreon, while releasing a product a week. Small products.

Are you familiar with the Deception series of video games?

Afraid not. My consoles are a procession from the NES to the Wii.

Ah, 'tis a shame. XD They're sort of like a dream come true for dungeon masters who love killing adventurers with traps, and I was wondering (in the vague sense, of course, given that you haven't been paid) what you might do for a character class themed around magically summoning and using traps.

And not in the "I'm like a Sorcerer with lots of Create Pit spells" sort of way, of course.

I can most definitely do that without knowing of these games, chief, and I think specific runesmith projection builds might do what you want.

I would also check the Saboteur Base Class in Ascension Games Path of Iron* though Endzeitgeist's review was:

Endzeitgeist wrote:
The saboteur, on the other side, imho suffers a bit from having his traps basically being relegated to a limited selection of delayed spells - the framework is great, the rules-language is precise and no, this will not influence my review, but personally, I was a bit disappointed to see the traps of the class being just another version of spells. That might be me and the class is a cool playing experience, particularly with the new spells herein that add a whole roster of tactical tricks, but still - I found myself wishing the class had actually unique traps. Perhaps I was just too excited about the concept, but for now, that niche will be continued to be filled by Drop Dead Studios' Vauntguard in my games.

So I guess the challenge is to make not so spell-like traps. :)

*Interestingly enough, that book also has a runic magic system.

In the Deception line of games, while some of the traps are supernatural, many are more physical in nature, their magical component primarily being your ability to summon them into existence, though another focus is often utilizing your environment. Bear traps, electrified rods, spikes popping out of walls or the floor, cages, gas, pendulums, bombs that send people flying, giant weights to crush targets...that sort of thing. Using them in combination is usually key, such as utilizing one that immobilizes or repositions someone into the right place to trigger another trap...there's a list of some of them here if you're interested.

Yup. It might be interesting to take a leaf from Deception IV and split them into themes... Elaborate (Battlefield Control, i.e. pushing enemies around and other combat-maneuver things), Sadistic (damage and sundering), and Humiliation (Conditions). Well, I'll think about it, and see if I can hammer out the basics of an idea worth pursuing. XD

Please do! A definitive trapsmith would be an awesome thing to add.
