Melee Attack (Attack of Opportunity)

Rules Questions

So when making a Melee Attack during an Attack of Opportunity is that considered an Attack action? As the Attack (Melee) is a Standard action but is a Attack action. The reason I'm asking this is because I want to know if I can use Vital Strike on an Attack of Opportunity.

Quote:
An attack of opportunity is a single melee attack, and most characters can only make one per round. You don't have to make an attack of opportunity if you don't want to. You make your attack of opportunity at your normal attack bonus, even if you've already attacked in the round.

Its an attack, not a standard action. You can't vital strike on an attack of opportunity.

AoO is a no action.

Attack action is a standard action.
