Defense vs Witch

Rules Questions

Is there a way (other then bashing the life out of it) to defend against a Witch's cackle and supernatural attacks? It could be a stretch but Protection from Evil nearly talks to the mental impacts but I think that's a far stretch. Seems if the Witch gets a fairly high will save and hits the save lowering attack then it's quickly downhill from there. Is there no defense? Even Silence on the witch doesn't matter.

Witches have to see their target. Any effect that keeps them from seeing will keep you safe.

The range of Hexes is fairly short. Stay back and shoot arrows.

Also, antimagic field.

Silence stops a witch from cackling. If you can't here the witch cackle (because you or the witch is in an area of silence) then it doesn't work.

Also, getting more than 30ft away from the witch will get you out of range.

What's wrong with standard approach of bashing the life out of it? It's a large part of how we stop everything else.

Witches just like other poor BAB casters tend to have defenses vs being bashed, and things can go south if the bashing takes too long.

Thanks folks.. Couple thoughts.. Is there an erata or rule someplace that states silence blocks a witch's supernatural effects? My player states Supernatural isn't impacted by silence.

As for bashing the living pulp out of it, I agree if you can get to it with the invisibility, flying etc. d8 arrows aren't all that sexy. ;)

Silence stops cackle. It doesn't stop all of the witch hexes. There is an FAQ on it.

In fact there is an FAQ

Quote:

Witch, Cackle Hex: Does my character literally have to cackle madly when I use this hex, or is that just flavor text?

Your character actually has to cackle—probably in a strong voice, akin to the volume and clarity necessary for verbal spell components.

Edit 7/19/13:
If the witch is in a silence effect, she can't use the cackle hex.
If the target is in a silence effect, it is unaffected by the cackle.
This may require some clarifying text in the next printing of the Advanced Player's Guide.
