How to domesticate an animal

Rules Questions

Hello together.

I just where wondering how exactly the rear of animals in pathfinder works. I mean step by step from wild to domesticate and how Long it will take.

With my understanding its like this:

A.e. You (Ranger)see a wolf in the forrest:
1. Wild Empathy (to get the Wolf Friendly)
2. Handle Animal = DC 15+HD(2) (for rear so he will follow you?)
3. ??? (is the wolf following you after this Point or do you have to repeat some handle animal checks?)
4. Look at the wolf every day for atleast 3 hours to domesticate it.
5. It will take (house rule) 1 Month per HD to domesticate the wolf.
(5.5) I can do this with up to 3 wolfes at the same time?
6. After the time of 2 months (with our house rule of Timing for Domesticating) the wolf will follow me and can be trained?

I hope you guys understand me. Please excuse me for my english. Its not my main language.

I would appreciate it, if you could help me and let me know if my understanding is right or if i missed something.

Best Regards.

The rules are vague on some details, presumably since this is a rare enough game occurrence, circumstances vary (such as which animal) and most campaigns will hand-wave the time and boring work.

The rules as I read them are:
- Start with infant animal(s) (up to 3)
- Handle Animal DC 15 + HD
- With success, animal can be trained

How long it takes the animal to go from infant to useful is unstated (probably varies by animal). How much time the handler has to spend with the animal each day is unstated.

My opinion: unless the character is trying to build an army of trained wolves or run a business selling tamed aurochs, keep it simple and keep it fun.
