Egyptian Pantheon in Ancient Osirion

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Silver Crusade

So I know there something in Mummy's Mask about the ancient Egyptian deities being worshiped in ancient Osirion. I don't have the adventure path, and haven't played it, so I have no idea what the full story is.

But they're legal for worship in Pathfinder Society, so apparantly, they're still alive and still deities, even though most of Golarion has forgotten about them.

Can someone fill me in on what the story is on them? If they're really still gods with enough influence to be patrons to divine casters on Golarion, then how are they completely forgotten? And if they don't really still exist as gods of Golarion, then how can they be legal for PFS play?

A deity's power in the Pathfinder campaign setting is not related to the number of active worshipers it has. In the case of the Ancient Osirian gods, their attention has moved on to other worlds, but they can still grant spells to those who worship them on Golarion in the same way a worshiper of Cayden Cailean would still get spells if they were on a distant planet.

Thanks for the response. I thought it might be something like that.

So if it's not too big a spoiler for the adventure path, can someone fill me in on their role in modern Golarion? Obviously, they were worshiped back in early Osirion, and have since been mostly forgotten.

But do they have any modern worshipers? Are they completely forgotten, or still remembered as an historic curiosity?

Edit: And... nevermind. I just downloaded the free Mummy's Mask Player's Guide which covers this:

page 6 wrote:
Osirion was founded under the guidance of the god-king Nethys, and though the people venerated gods of the Inner Sea, they also worshiped the old gods. As Osirion prospered, the old gods entrusted more and more to the people of Osirion, taking a lesser role in everyday life. By the Age of Enthronement the gods had all but left Golarion, though they still guided it from afar. When the Empire of Kelesh seized control of Osirion, a campaign was launched to eradicate Osirion culture and hundreds of temples and shrines to the old gods were destroyed. Although faithful worship declined, the ancient gods were never fully forgotten, and some temples and clergy still exist throughout Osirion. These gods are not the focus of the Mummy’s Mask Adventure Path, but your GM may allow you to worship one of them. More information about the ancient gods of Osirion can be found in Pathfinder Adventure Path #80: Empty Graves.

IIRC in the Mummy's Mask AP or the People of the Sands book that the Ruby Prince was encouraging more people to worship the old pantheon.

Playing through this now, two of the PC worship Osiris.
Hope that doesn't cause an issue...

I was asking because I was looking for an unusual back story or quirk for a new Pathfinder Society PC. I decided to make her an archaeologist who accidentally stumbled into getting divine power from Isis and becoming a worshiper.

Mark, did they "found" new civilizations on these worlds? Also, do they still visit Golarion and Osirion from time to time?

They "turned their attention to a land on a distant world--the Old Kingdom of Kemet." Hmm, I wonder where that is. Whether they "founded" a civilization there is unknown, but they certainly seem to have found some worshipers. :)

Regarding occasional visits, none of the gods (Osirian or otherwise) regularly visit Golarion. But as gods, they likely could if they wanted.

Was it on Persei 8?

Kemet is one name of the civilization which became Egypt.

Since Earth exists in the Pathfinder canon, this would likely indicate that Earth is where they moved to.

One could argue Bast (Bastet) has quite an irrationally large a following to this day.

Well, Golarion and Earth are canonically in the same universe, and current calendar of Golarion is roughly equal to 1870s Earth. And the kingdom of Kemet was an ancient kingdom in what is now Egypt, which seems rather obvious and straight forward. These particular gods are good are bringing and spreading their culture.

But it appears they give up their focus/influence in a place and it dies off, since we don't know of any existence of Osirion pantheon worshippers on Earth (aside from maybe a few pockets, not unlike on Golarion).

So now they question is, where have they moved on to since then?

It's actually early 1920s.
