Another thread asking about day jobs got me wondering if others have creative day jobs. So list the day jobs for your PCs here.
Here they are for my 21 PCs:
1 - Profession: Tax Collector - barbarian realized how dangerous this profession could be after seeing a tax collector die during one of his adventures, so took up the task... badly
2 - Heal - cleric with temple membership
3 - Perform: Oratory - Bard
4 - None - Cleric (not enough skill ranks)
5 - Barons of Taldor don't do menial labor!
6 - None - Sorcerers are too pretty to work.
7 - Perform: Dance - Dawnflower Dervish Bard
8 - None - not enough skill ranks
9 - None - not enough skill ranks
10 - Craft: Wood Carving - Priests of Shelyn are required to try and spread beauty every day through some sort of performance or artistic creation. They're not required to actually be good at it, but he really does try.
11 - Perform: Comedy - Prankster Bard
12 - Profession: Sailor - Just like any good pirate
13 - None - Being a great hero is job enough! (Craft: Arrogance?)
14 - None - May join a temple to be a professional healer eventually
15 - Profession: Chef - He joined the Society to travel the world, learning about all types of fine cuisine
16 - None - Not enough skill ranks
17 - None - Wizards are too good for that kind of work
18 - Craft: Weapons AND Profession: Merchant - Comes from a blacksmith family. Joined the Society to test his family's wares in the field, and establish business connections to sell them.
19 - None - Because Profession: Spy would give too much away
20 - None - Too depressed to care about such things
21 - None - not enough skill ranks
So I actually only have day jobs on 9 of my 21 PCs, which is lower than I expected now that I look at it. I like the idea of day jobs to give more personality to PCs, so I thought I'd done them on at least half of mine.

Hm, I think I only have a few with day jobs.
The ones I can think of
My magus has craft: weaponsmith (thematically created his own black blade).
My urgathoan warpriest has profession undertaker.
My hunter/worg murder machine combo has profession soldier.
Out of ~15 that I've made (and the ~10 that I've had a chance to play).
GinoA |
Paladin of Abadar - Caravan vanity to use Intimidate as a Tax Collector
Unscrupulous Sorceress - Caravan vanity for a traveling brothel (Diplomacy)
Gordd (rather special Dwarf) - Charcuterie*
The rest are mundane things like a bard dancing in the streets.
* If Gordd ever offers you a a sausage, politely claim a religious prohibition from eating meat. Don't worry, he can't really grasp lies anyway. CMOTD wouldn't eat a Gordd sausage if he knew what went into one.

I'll bite.
-1: Craft (alchemy), Lore Warden Fighter
-2: My paladin of Damerrich, Berric "The Ladies' Knight" Thorne, operates a trade caravan in addition to numerous other endeavors. Come on down to Honest Berric's Travelling Trade Extravaganza, "Where the prices are the only thing falling! Prices so low you'll think I'm lying, but I'm not! You know, the paladin code and all."
-3: Craft (alchemy), Rogue
-4: Too dead to hold down a job.
-5: See -4.
-6: See -5.

Skipping off the ones that I don't remember/are a GM blob:
1. (Halforc Barbarian) Perform: Oratory
2. (Cleric) Heal
3. (Diviner) A day job would be a frivolous pursuit. My time is better spent pondering the future and how to assist the Society in having it play out in beneficial ways.
4. (Inquisitor) I dare not take time away from the Society. I'm very important, you know. Captain Dreng would be lost without my assistance.
6. (Wayang Witch) Perfom: Birthday Party Clown/Magician. I do basic tricks, some advanced stuff, hypnosis, and more with the help of my assistant Rumblesnuffle! (Who's name is actually Riddywhipple, he just cant get it right.)(You know that one kid who is at the birthday party and cries cause hes scared of the clown? That's the kid who sees through the hat of disguise to see that Im not really a Halfling.)
7. (Chirurgeon Alchemist) Craft: Alchemy
13. (Ratfolk Magus) Profession: PiRATe...er..Sailor, I meant Sailor. *breaks into 'Professional Pirate' song from Muppet Treasure Island*
14. (Halfling Bard) Perform: Sing...and Dance...and Oratory...and Wind Instruments...
16. (Ifrit Gunslinger/Swashbuckler/Magus) Profession: Sailor
22. (Human Hunter) Kova needs no other job during the day. Kova's only concern is to find others like him, those who are worthy, and convince them to join the cause of his great leaders, to help make the world a better place for those who are too weak to do it themselves! (He's Sovereign Court)
Damanta |
1. Pirate (1 rank in Profession: sailor and a treasuremap boon). Human Bloodrager with 30 infamy from Skull and Shackles AP.

-2: None: Full time pathfinder.

-7: Profession (Teacher) on my Gnome Sorc.

-2: Fertilization (he's dead)
-3: No day job
-4: Perform (Oratory) - Cleric (evangelist) of Asmodeus with max ranks in the skill. Mainly to convert people, but he'll certainly take their money too.
-5: Wanders around the various perform, craft, and professions so no one can figure out exactly what s/he does/is.
-6: Profession (Greengrocer) - like every good half-orc Viking should be.
-7: Craft (Alchemy) - because I'm an alchemist, moron.

-14: Profession (merchant) - Qadira The Exchange for life!

2) Profession: Teacher. One rank and a vanity. He finally decided it was time to pass on what he'd learned to the next batch of Pathfinders, and took up teaching (before founding a lodge of his own)
3) Patrols the area around Fangwood Keep.
4) Craft: Scholarly Treatise. He's only got one rank, but that's good enough for a high-Int character with Crafter's Fortune. Would you like to see his work on the thaumatic absorptive properties of the common races? It was inspired by trying to use Detect Magic inside a ventilation duct with a dwarf in the way.
5) Profession: Oratory. Thog tell stories in bars. Stories also introduce him to nice people, and teach how to make not-nice people nice without breaking their arms. Thog not make that mistake a third time. (Versatile Performance)
6) Craft: Traps. The whole family is fairly obsessed with traps, going way, way back. Also only one rank, as he's more about disabling the traps, but you can't just ignore tradition.
7) Nothing yet, but Master will be eventually getting him a caravan to guard (with Intimidate.)
9) Profession: Scribe. Part of this was for the faction card, but part of it was to give him an excuse for those Iron Brushes on his bandolier.
10) Profession: Merchant. He works the supply side rather heavily, and is in the process of looting the Emerald Spire to the bare rock. Despite all the literally hole-in-the-wall privies, he hasn't yet managed to sell toilet paper to the denizens.

Profession:King jk.
I have a number of Profession:Merchants, I find that role to be useful in a number of scenarios but more to the idea of a traveling character exploring doing something else while they are out in all these different locations. I picture them constantly carrying a variety of small, valuable items that they trade and sell as part of their day job.

My Dwarven Drunken Master of course has Profession:Brewer (not to mention a farmhouse that is supposed to represent his rebuilding of the Railford Distillery, after a bit of an incident there early in his career).
My healing witch has Profession:Midwife. It seemed to make sense at the time. Does make you wonder just who her patron is, though.
One of the guys I regularly game with often has Profession:Butcher and/or Profession:Skinner, figuring he makes his day job money from every single in-game encounter :)
Rei Venture-Lieutenant, Finland—Tampere |
My level 14 half-orc druid spent most of his career working for Qadira in the hopes of becoming a full citizen. Upon reaching Seeker status, he realized this would never happen, so he re-pledged his allegiance to the Ten only. Still, he ended up working as part of the mercantile empire of the Padishah using his druidic abilities for years, so he continues to work with, if not directly under, Aaqir al'Hakam. Translation: his day job is Survival using the Hunting Lodge vanity.
My Mordant Spire elf magus knows just enough about sailing to give some small advice to captains on navigation in the Ironbound Archipelago, which is sometimes worth some coin. Profession (Sailor).
My half-elf rogue/inquisitor/fighter/shadowdancer dabbles in a few things. He picked up a bit of alchemy from his life partner and was forced to learn a bit of dance to become a shadowdancer, but for the most part he helps captains proof their vessels against stowaways. Profession (sailor) again, though he also has ranks in Craft (alchemy) and Perform (dance).
My aasimar summoner tells stories of her incredible adventures. Most of the time, she tells them a bit too fast and a bit too cheerfully. Perform (oratory) with just one rank.
My nagaji oracle was recently adopted into the illustrious Blakros family, and she gladly uses her incredible knowledge to impress other nobles into assisting the family with their business practices, netting her a pretty sum in the mean time. Knowledge (nobility) through a boon. She also has just one rank in it, but has a ridiculous bonus.
My half-elf investigator/witch, who is also the offspring of the earlier multiclass mess, is working on trying to develop their other parent's extracts into a variant that would taste somewhat less awful. Craft (alchemy).
My ifrit inquisitor also tells stories. They mostly center on things burning. Perform (oratory). She got specialization in it from a chronicle, so I figured why not.
My seeker-level human skald sings rebellious songs she writes about the Ulfen uprising in Irrisen she's working on getting started. Perform (sing).
My undine psychic recently took up giving people therapy sessions, since being an adventurer appears to be a pretty traumatizing experience. He's already found comfort in the inevitability of the end of the world, and offers it to others for a very small price. Profession (therapist). He worships Groetus.
The rest can't spare the skill points or haven't found their calling yet.

-1: RIP
-2: Aasimar Paladin, no day job. Being a Shining Beacon of Hope takes up all of her time.
-3: Tiefling Wizard, Profession (Librarian, naughty)
-4: Tiefling Rogue and -3's twin sister, Profession (Barmaid, saucy)
(-3 and -4 were rolled and played the same day during the "Let's all make tieflings and aasimars!" madness at the end of Season 5, hence twins.)
-5: Human Spiritualist, Profession (Herbalist) - You need some good weed to keep from going nuts when the ghost of a crazy pirate lives in your head.
-6: Human Cleric - CORE, Profession (Herbalist) - strictly medicinal. Does not approve of recreational uses advocated by some people she could mention.
-7: Sylph Ninja - Craft (Calligraphy) - If Megumi ever uses her Linguistics skill to forge documents, they're going to look good, perhaps too good.
-8: Kitsune Bard - Perform (Sing) - she'd rather have adulation than cash, but won't turn down cash.
-9: Half-orc Inquisitor of Cayden Cailean - Profession (Barfly)

I've a Gunslinger with Profession (Advice Columnist). The advice usually boils down to "shoot your problems until they stop being problems". Apparently this is considered decent advice, as I've never rolled below a 17 on his checks.
Other than him it's all fairly normal stuff. I will say that my new Vigilante has ranks in Craft (Fancy Hats) though.

Day Jobs are one of my favorite ways to give my characters depth and personality.
- Lady's man aasimar dual-cursed oracle - Profession (Bartender); because rerolling that diplomacy check means flirting becomes easier.
- 'Mean girl' dhampir warpriest - (Profession: Geisha); 'cause noone is prettier than her.
- Entrepreneurial half-orc savage skald bard has Perform (Oratory); From her days of 'working' in a Varisian bordello
- Ex-crusader tiefling shaman of Reymenda - Profession (Midwife); she has a small clinic in Nerosyan.
- Muscleman half-orc unchained monk - (Survival): Those frail elves in Kyonin really need someone to guide them through Treerazer's taint
- Greedy dwarf daring champion cavalier - Profession (Merchant). Ed's rent-a-slave service is a grand succes amongst the nobles of Absalom and he's been voted Misery Row's "Most entrepreneurial business" two years in a row.
- Simpleton brawler looking for a husband - Profession (Cook).. because he's gonna fall in love with her if she performs well in the kitchen.
- Guru gnome varisian pilgrim cleric - Profession (Pilgrim); his family is from a long lineage of Desnan clerics that have taken up the duty of cleaning road-side shrines.
- Quack doctor half-elf speaker for the past shaman - (Heal) ..he's actually a very good doctor, but often acts out of his own interest, purposefully extending his 'treatments' in order to make more gold.
- Sadomasochistic crossdressing human psychic - Profession (Priest). He has his own view of Zon-kuthon's teachings, creating painful social situations in order to train his psychic abilities.
- Impulsive half-orc fated champion skald - Perform (Sing), which he pretends to be really bad at in order to cause his teammates to fly into a rage
- Aloof vishkanyan mesmerist - (Bluff), since avoiding responsibility is his main priority in life
- Hard-headed dwarven Siegebreaker fighter/Gendarme cavalier/Far shot monk/Blood conduit bloodrager/Slayer/Ulfen guard/Crusader cleric/Swashbuckler - Profession (Bodyguard); the Society pays well to escort all kinds of fools.
End score 13/13 (100%) do I win? :P

Most of my characters' day jobs were either by default, i.e. Craft (Alchemy) for my Alchemist, or chosen by Vanity, i.e. Heal from Temple for my Cleric. The only one I deliberately went out of my way to give a day job to for RP purposes is my Taldan Sorcerer who took ranks in Perform (Dance) so that he could be a Court Dance Instructor (it's a great way to meet the ladies).

It is interesting to see how some people go out of their way to take day job skills and some not so much.
I tend to be in the former camp. My PCs have at least 1 rank in a day job skill as long as I can find one that fits my PC. I'll usually take my first favored class bonus for an extra skill point for that 1 rank, even if I do something else with the other levels.
For example, my human cleric has 1 extra skill point from his favored class for his rank in Craft (calligraphy), but the other 7 went into piercing the SR of outsiders.

Craft: Courtesan
Just how many baby courtesans has she popped out?
LOL! darlin', I don't craft BABIES, (shudder), I turn untrained amateurs into expert professionals! You know, take "raw material" in the form of adults and teach them how to operate in the second oldest profession!
here's a link to where I offered to train another Pathfinder in the second oldest profession (Cleric is the oldest profession).

So as long as we're talking day jobs, I'm working on creating a new PC, and I think this one will be an archaeologist. Not the bard archetype. The profession.
Yes, I'm actually going for a character who's a Pathfinder for the right reasons.
In game terms, would that be profession: archaeologist or profession: historian? Has anyone ever seen either of them come up in a PFS adventure? I could swear I've seen one or the other at some point, possibly both, but don't ask me where.

I have a Rahadoumi Bard with profession archaeologist. (Not the archetype)
He's level 8 and I've rolled it a few times for non day-job purposes.
My memory is a little fuzzy but I think it came up when attempting to determine the age of a relic.
In another case I think I used to to safely remove an item from a wall without causing a cave.
I feel like there was at least a 3rd time that I don't happen to remember.

My Half-Orc Barbarian 14/ Fighter 1 ran the entire Emerald Spire and from level 1 took Profession King. He even has skill focus in it. A MW tool of a scepter and a Crown of Swords that he never uses but wants to look the part. He finished the Spire and collected all his land and now has a legitimate kingdom.
