Unchained Monk - Just the unchained Ki powers or all Ki powers?

Rules Questions

Thought I'd throw this out to those that know.

I have a player who wants to play an unchained quiningong monk.

My question is (two actually): as he is referencing the Unchained rules material can he choose ki powers from Ultimate Magic, Ultimate combat and other etc? Or is he limited to the Ki Powers from unchained only?

Second question: If he chooses the Ki power barkskin, it uses one ki point right? How long does the bark skin last? Rounds? Minutes etc.

Thanks in advance!

Using ki to do barkskin works exactly like he cast the spell barkskin using his monk level as his caster level.

Unchained Monks don't have access to all ki powers, but do have access to all the qinggong powers.

I speak in laymans terms here:

If those books are allowed, he has access to all of them as a choice in Ki Powers.

Barkskin costs 1 Ki Point. It lasts 10min per Level. As a Qinggong/Unchained Monk, his effective caster level for this spell-like ability is equal to his total of Qinggong/Unchained levels. If he's a level 5 monk, it's going to last 50 minutes. Also it is a Standard to activate and I don't recall whether or not it requires a concentration check - but I haven't seen a DM ever ask for one.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate it.

Kazumetsa, I have allowed those books as build sources so I'll allow the access.

and, Claxon, why do you say an unchained monk would not have access to all Ki powers? Just curious.

Thanks again.

Note that there is no such thing as an Unchained Qinggong Monk - the archetype is integrated into the class. Eath time he takes "Qinggong Power" as a Ki Power, he can choose any one level appropriate ki power given in the Qinggong Monk archetype in Ultimate Magic (are there any other books that add ki powers to QGM?). They follow all the rules given in that archetype, exept how you aquire them.

@Kazumetsa Raijin: It's a spell-like ability, so it would require a concentration check.

Well, I'm not sure if there are any Ki powers for the Core Monk besides the ones listed in the Qinggong monk entry which are specifically granted to the Unchained Monk.

But if there are ones other than those listed there, and the list doesn't mention unchained monk ki powers I assume unchained monks would not qualify for them.

My current understanding is that the Unchained Monk/Rogue only have access to ki powers/rogue talents that specifically indicate they are available to the unchained versions of the classes.

However, as far as I know the only sources for Ki powers are the Qingong monk and the Uncahined Monk class entry. And those would all be available to an Unchained Monk.
