Something combat oriented instead of another tech. Army, Marine, and Navy are all on the table. I need to read over those careers more.

If there's a better version of a "Star Marine" out there then I'm open to suggestions but I couldn't find anything in the PDFs that I have.

Name: James Lawson

Homeworld: A planet devastated by a factional war. Even children, like James Lawson, were drafted to fight. The crust was eventually cracked by weapons of mass destruction; billions died as the planet split apart. Fighting continued in Zero-g by the few remaining survivors until outside forces intervened. When rescued from this world at war, James was re-educated and then he joined the Star Marines of his rescuers.

Does "reduce your Social Standing by 1" mean my Soc stat or something else?

There's another book I have that does Mercenaries, which also has an expanded event table for the core book Marines, if you'd like to use either with your 2nd and subsequent career paths.

I'm looking at Traveller Book 1 - Mercenary (mgp3801). In there I see under Mercenary is the Commando, and one of the specializations is Spec Ops. Let's do that.

I think you'll like the Commando/Spec-Ops from the Mercenary book better, so I'll use that one...

Injury roll x2: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8

Severely Wounded, reduce 1 physical stat by 1d6 ⇒ 3 pts.

Forced out of Career, no event, no promotion.

With forced out of Career, you'd be forced out of Mercenary careers. They are linked together (ranks transfer). So you could go apply for some other career, but not the Mercenary ones.

I'm assuming you'd like to go for the 'healing the damage medically' and owe at the end of career?

And yes, 4 years.

You could go for an Agent career, like Bounty Hunter. Int 7+ check to get in.

Corporate Agent, Body Guard for example. Int 6+ to get in...

If changed anything about Traveller, it would be to tone down the brutality of losing four years and getting nothing for your time when failing a Survival role. That particular failed roll just f@~&s you so hard. I'd probably cut it down to a 2 year loss.

Traveller is very very old school. You can die during character generation.

Age 34: 2d6 - 4 ⇒ (2, 3) - 4 = 1 NO aging
Age 38: 2d6 - 5 ⇒ (2, 2) - 5 = -1 Reduce 2 physical stats by 1.

You can roll on any you want. I only asked because there's no ship shares on the Commando, but there is on the Corporate Agent.
