NPC concentration checks...

Rules Questions

I know that rules wise you should but
GM to GM, do you roll concentration checks for your spell casting NPCs when players are battling them?

I do when I remember to.. lol. Most of the time, yes. Though if things are really happening fast and furiously I do sometimes forget. And I forget where the PCs are concerned, too. Fortunately, one of my players helps keep me on track with such things. We've been playing together 30 years and we know how each other thinks so it's easy for one of us to remind the other where a ball was dropped.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm having trouble understanding how this is even a question. Of course you must roll concentration checks for the NPCs. Are you suggesting that the NPCs might be immune to one of the fundamental weaknesses of spellcasting?

The only time I can see this as acceptable is someone who is new (and isn't that versed in the rules yet) or a group that doesn't really pay that much attention. I can tell you that this would never fly at my tables. My players are well aware of their own spellcasting limitations and are just as aware of the enemies' limitations, because the players use them to their advantage.

I don't fudge any rolls at all. In fact, I make all of my rolls out in the open except things like perception checks that need to be unknown.

Remember, concentration checks are for SLAs too. ;)
