Hero Lab printed character sheets

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I am fairly new to Pathfinder and also to Hero Lab. I am loving the hero lab software and have created a character and printed it out. Can I use the printed out character sheet during play or does it have to be written on the "official" Pathfinder sheet?

Are you asking with regard to Pathfinder Society?

The Herolab character sheet works just fine for most games, including PFS.

In fact, it has some added benefits, such as listing source books used or double-checking whether a build is PFS legal. It shouldn't be the final arbiter on rulings, but can give you a good heads-up if something is amiss.

For a home game, ask your GM if he's comfortable with it. I've yet to play in any home game with a stricter requirement than "Please don't just write everything on a sheet of notebook paper" so you should be fine.

For PFS there's no set format required. Just make sure all the relevant information is there and legible (which a printed sheet from Hero Lab fulfills).

Just make sure you know where everything is on the sheet when you use it.

Caveat: For PFS, some GMs will ask you how some of the numbers were calculated up, if something seems odd to them. Make sure you know how HeroLab came up with the final numbers it puts on your character's sheets.

Not only do I ask, but I also try to have a crib sheet (usually made in NotePad) showing the breakdown of the final numbers for the most often used things, especially if they are not an item used all the time by everyone, like combat maneuver bonus, if you use it often, especially since HL doesn't include that, usually, in its printouts.
