I would still like to see some new classes such as...

Inventor/Engineer- Class that uses bombs, guns, tech, and gadgets. Would have good skill point progression and could make, break, or fix things faster.

Shapeshifter- Class that is a non-spellcaster that focuses on changing into anyone and anything. Maybe gains additional bonuses while using it's shape shifting.

Wildling- Martial class that was raised in the wild, has monk like AC but can use charisma or wisdom(chosen at level 1), favored terrain abilities based on the terrain were it was raised. Can select one path from a list of starting abilities so it could have an animal companion, unarmed strike, natural attacks, animal spirit, etc. Is proficient with primitive weapons like club, bolos, boomerang, sling, spear, etc.

Vivifier- Class that is a conduit of the positive energy plane. Basically a non-spellcasting healer class with abilities like channel, lay on hands, fast healing, negative energy resistance, immunity to disease, death effects, energy drain, positive energy blast, etc.

Bloodsavant- Class that focuses on sorcerer bloodline powers. It would be a d8/cleric BA, 4+int skill point class with lessened(6th) or no spell casting.

Beastmaster- Martial class with a animal or magical beast companion. Maybe a monk like AC bonus based on charisma.

Defender/Protector- Martial class that focuses on defense and protective abilities both for his self and for others. Gets armor training, uncanny dodge, stalwart, all good saves and maybe some abjuration spells as spell like abilities. Can use his shield to deflect attacks and even deflect magical attacks at higher levels. Some other cool gimmicks would be if he is poisoned he gains a haste effect.

Warlock/Hexer- Martial class that uses witch hexes. Maybe has 4th level casting from the witch spell list.

Soulblade/Mindblade/Spiritblade/Mysticblade- Martial class that has the ability to create a magical weapon out of there body, mind or soul. Gains a +1 enhancement bonus at 3rd that increases every 4 levels(+5 at 19th). Also gains weapon special properties and other abilities with this weapon.

Primalist- Class that takes on the abilities and traits of various monsters. Basically you choose from a list of monster based powers(breath weapon, web, gaze, spell powers, etc.)and monster traits(horns, fur, scales, claws, feathers, snakes for hair, etc).

9 spell level spontaneous nature magic caster.

Only class I can think of that I'd really like to see.

Other then perhaps some redos, Unchained style, I kind of wish for no new classes. Do not get me wrong, I do love options, but I think that there should at least be a long pause on new classes.

I would be down for these, although I would prefer the Vivifier as not being necessarily tied to channeling, but maybe more a medic or mad science type character (alchemist-cleric hybrid?). Also I would prefer a Defender class that was more along the lines of something built around armor use, maybe a sort of magical iron man?

I would prefer the features associated with primalist to be more something that could be accomplished via scaling feats or a feat chain, not a specific class.

Since the vivifier is conduit of the positive energy plane then it's abilities would be supernatural and spell like, maybe from a pool of "life points". Besides I would love a non-divine and non-spellcasting class that got channel and lay on hands. If not it's own class then a really well done positive energy based kineticist element.

I would love a 9th level cha based spontaneous caster with the druid spell list. Maybe some kind of totem animal/spirit for it's bloodline/mystery/domain type focus. I really wish this what the shaman was like.

Frankly I'd like to see the 3.5 changling (Eberron I think) carried over rather than a shapeshifting class.

Perhaps a revamp on some older classes though? Either core things or some of the 3.5 stuff. Would love to see a re-done (properly) Shadowcaster, though I don't know how that would work with copyrights and the like. Maybe contacting the class designer?

an EX or SU and EX based alchecmial item, poison, non magical debufffer class.
Like throw in tech too..

Basically a hell of a lot like the Chemist from FFd20. It'd probably be along the lines of an archetype for alchemist that gives up infusions though.
Keep that classes amazing way to utilize alchemical items and such.

rant on the subject:

Basically this would require an expansion to alchemical items.
Basically make versions that scale up, and instead of extracts, they can chose from a shortish list of potions, scaling alchemical items, and stuff like that as they level up..

it is hard to explain.. but basically expansion of alchemical items + a class or prestige based around using them. Either making just better alchemical items, or making more types. Then having the class make them far cheaper and allow for boosts to DC, damage etc.

basically includes an upgrade to the grenadier' classes alchemcial weapon. instead of being temporary, you can preset and premake the bullets, arrows, dart, shuriken etc instead of in the moment. Including poisons and some potions on the designated list (slap on a potion of shocking grasp for instance onto a bullet and fire the bullet. Stuff like that)
It is weird to explain but there is such cool design space for a class like that.

Sure there is a lot to be sad about how that is basically just a crappier alchemist or pseudo spell caster with limited choices.. but it is very much a niche in the system that is sad.

It is so difficult to have really nifty poisons, or alchemical items. Granted my Toxicant Grenadier (or trap breaker) alchemist seems to do alright..
but still isn't really the focus of it.
but ya'kno I"m also an insane fan of the FFd20 chemist.
Wish I could play one more often.
outside of that.. Honestly just port over some of the cooler FFd20 designs. With permission of course~

Telepath- Class with a variety of telepathic abilities. Basically all abilities are supernatural or spell like. Gains telepathy at level 1 with 30' range that improves in power and range as you level.

Psychic Warrior/Fakir- Martial class with psychic abilities. Maybe uses the monster rules for psychic powers and gains psychic energy points.

Liberty's Edge

Just wanted to say that some of these types of classes are in the New Paths Compendium from Kobold Press. If you allow any Third Party material in your games, the New Paths Compendium is worth checking out!

14 5-star ratings! :)

Check out the Skin-Changer, a non-spellcasting class with a host of shapeshifting abilities. When in animal form, the class gets a number of enhanced combat abilities too!

The Shaman is EXACTLY that type of class (not the Paizo shaman, the Shaman that is in the New Paths Compendium - which, incedentaly. came out well before the Paizo version :)

This particular third party product is very good, we use it and have found the classes within very well balanced, certainly no issues of balance beyond what you find in the official stuff.

Keying off the Vivifier, I would like to see a port of the 3.5 dragon shaman. Not necessarily tied to dragons, but a nonspellcasting character that focused on party wide buffs, had some healing ability, and could mix it up in melee. I think it can be done as a paladin archetype, since lay on hands, auras, and divine bond are already part of the class chassis and can be augmented to fit, but a whole new class might work better.

In my mind, this class would also gain an Inquisition/Domain for their patron (probably a dragon, but again not necessarily), which if balanced against the current offerings would expand options for several classes at once.

A class with a variety of aura effects would be interesting especially it does not have any spell casting ability and just relies on supernatural/spell like abilities and at least some martial skill.

"Everyman hero"

The classic trope of a common person who nonetheless becomes a great hero.

Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, The Brave Little Tailor, TwoFlower in Discworld, Gabriel as a non-magical bard in early Xena episodes, Samwise Gamgee in LoTR, Forest Gump, etc.

No sneak attacks, no high BAB, no armor proficiency, no weapon proficiency beyond simple, no spell casting, no apparent abilities of any kind. Just a lot of heart and luck.

Can you make a character class like that?

I am not sure that it would work well as a class. To me, it seems that such a character would start with just an NPC class. After a few levels, you would start taking standard classes. After you pass your crucible event, you then retrain all of your NPC classes for regular classes.

I feel like the wildling would work fine as a Barbarian or Ranger archetype, no need to introduce a full base class for that. Same for the Defender/Protector, that works fine as a paladin archetype (and in fact Divine Defender and Sacred Shield already fill the niche quite well).

I'm pretty much fine with what Paizo's presented so far as far as classes/archetypes. With some refluffing I've had very little issue with building pretty much any character concept, although my artificer craving has yet to be satisfied.

What you want darth_borehd is an expert unchained or a commoner class that is worth it. Though a luck based class would be interesting.

A ba-gillion 3rd party classes to choose from. if not i recommend looking at the Numeria products combined with an alchemist.

- besides the AC bonus, - are talking about the Hunter class?

Defender/Protector- Paladin with Stalwart defender PrC.

-An Overlord class, that would create/summon/control monsters and other creatures to do their bidding and use dark magics and/or a monstrous shape to directly engage their enemies.

-A class able to mimic monster's abilities (Like the FF games' Blue Mage or the 3.5E's Totemist)

-A weapon & armor manifestor class, a martial class able to psychically create temporary gear and armaments.

-An eldritch explorer class focused on travelling to and adapting to hostile and strange envrionnements.

A mime class would be interesting because whatever the pantomime would become real(and possibly invisible) like a sword, force field, cage, wind effect, mount, etc.

A jester class with powers dealing with granting good luck(self and others) and inflicting bad luck would be cool.

I would really like a wuxia teleporting around the battlefield martial class. Something akin to the swordmage from 4E, but obviously a huge rewrite on it.

Scarab Sages

2 people marked this as a favorite.

A PROPER Warlock (not the Kineticist) - perhaps as a sort of Sorcerer-Occultist hybrid class whose spell knowledge is REALLY limited, but can use them at will, and twist them in unusual ways.

A PROPER Sha'ir (not the lame Occultist Archetype).

A PROPER Pact Magic user and system (not the super-disappointing Medium).

Jester as a Bard Alternate class - their spell list is geared more toward the offensive.

I'd kind of like to see some specialist wizard classes that use 6th level casting. Kind of like the Summoner, but focusing on different schools. Say a Illusionist class for instance.

Also I would like the more generic prestige classes that are not already replicated thematically to some degree in newer classes (e.g., Assassin and Slayer, Eldritch Knight and Magus, etc). Some of those fill niches that really should be available from first level

How about a martial with full BAB that has ranger/rogue-like skill progression, can wear most armor/shields, and isn't dependent on an archaic alignment gimmick or allthefeatsallthetime?

No 3PP, please. Slayer need not apply in this context.

The 3.5 DRAGONLANCE Mariner?

Even I think a martial class with a rouge's skill progression is a bit strong but interesting. Maybe the class uses it's skills in conjunction with it's combat style, well more so then other martial classes anyway.

A 6th level caster that is a school specialist with abilities related to each school would be interesting.

Scarab Sages

Dragon78 wrote:

Well, if you didn't give it too much else (some, but not too much), it would be, as one fleeting friend I showed the 3.5 Mariner to for appraisal years ago put it, "stout" - comparable to other Pathfinder full-BAB classes with their various wads of class features.

Well it would still need some kind of gimmick other then just a fighter with a lot skill points.

Scarab Sages

Of course.

Noble Class. It was done in the d20 Dragonlance and the d20 Star Wars and worked out well.

I would like a Ki master/user type class that is completely ki based and focused. It would have any ki ability a ninja or monk would and a lot more. It could have stuff like ki healing(more like lay on hands then the monk version), ki force blasts, ki force barrier/force field, ki knowledge, ki strength, ki will, ki auras, etc.

The Zealot A divine class that utilises raging, similar to a Bloodrager but in their zeal can also benefit from taking damage (self inflicted or otherwise).

So basically a divine version of the barbarian. That would be interesting.

A class that absorbs magic and stores that energy to do energy blasts, healing, force fields, boost stats, etc. The class would absorb magic from spells directed at them(and area effect spells), spells in effect like protection from evil, spells on limited use items like wands and potions, etc. Basically any spell that allows spell resistance.

Arthaus did something a bit like this with the True Innocent Prestige Class from Heroes of Light- unlike standard prestige classes, its prereqs could be met by a starting character- but it was an interestingly flawed piece of work. Worse straightjacket than a Paladin in terms of limiting character actions to keep the benefits of the class.

I really really really really want a proper Artificer class.

I've been kind of on a final fantasy kick lately, so...

I want a Blue Mage. Like it has the ability to pick special abilites off the alter sef/etc. lists if enemies it's in battle with have those abilities. Something like that.

I want a Red Mage. Mix of martial ability, healing/buffing magic and offensive/debuffing magic. Just a bit of each. Like.. some hybrid of bard and magus I guess. Or something.

I want a Dark Knight. Heavily armored partial caster with dark magical abilities, debuffs and life draining and all that junk. Something more fleshed out than "upside down paladin". Something with its own mechanics and syneriges.

Not Final Fantasy-y, but I want something like 3.5's specialist mages. Those are cool.

A cloth based divine caster. No, the Ecclesitheurge and the Cloistered Cleric archtypes are terrible half measures.

A gadgeteer/tinkerer engineer. Maybe something similar to the Occultist.

Unchain the fighter.

A true alternate paladin. The warpriest just moved the slider between the cleric and paladin and leaned pretty far towards the cleric.

It would nice for a class to get an actual breath weapon like how it is supposed to function, none of this 1-3/day but every 1d4 rounds. Though the damage should be more like the kineticist/rouge damage dice progression. This would be good for the bloodsavant, primalist, blu mage, and/or unchained sorcerer.

A dragon rider class or at least an archetype for beastmaster class I listed.

After seeing the magical girl archetype from UI I would love an actual class. The only ability I want from the vigilante is the secret identity. Though I would love the 6+int skill points and perception as a class skill. Having a choice of abilities would be cool like animal companion, familiar, bonded item, kineticist abilities, spellcasting, magical weapon summoned from your very soul/mind/heart, etc.

I can't help but notice a few of the above (the soulknife, sorta the telepath, and a psychic warrior) already exist thanks to Dreamscarred Press. This weird anti-3PP will forever confuse me.

Because many DMs do not allow third party stuff and I would like to see what Paizo would do with these ideas.

A version of the old Soul Eater class from I think it was 3.0.

I want a pathfinder version of the Dread Necromancer.

Also not all 3pp provide equal support to the new classes, or open them up to OGL.

Although this isn't much an issue for Dreamscarred Press versus other companies.

I want a Shadowknight class that gives you a heavy armor martial build with the ability to inflict life drain damage through weapons or touch attack, can have an undead minion or two and finally gives the game this iconic type of fantasy character.

You mean like the Dark Knight type class from FF tactics?

Yes, like Cecil from FF3 I think it was FF3 that was a Dark Knight before he became a paladin. Also, Dark Knight class in the FF MMO game. It also is like the Shadowknight class in EQ and EQ2 or the Reaver class in Dark Age of Camelot. There's quite a bit of examples of martial classes that can drain life and replenish their own life with melee weapons. I'd love to see that in this game.

Cecil was in FFIV but I understand what you mean.
