Bedtime for Outsiders

Rules Questions

Granted, Outsiders are subject to sleep effects, that's a given.

But, what has me curious is:
Can outsiders wake themselves up when put to sleep?

Per their traits;

Quote:
Outsiders breathe, but do not need to eat or sleep (although they can do so if they wish). Native outsiders breathe, eat, and sleep.

Could an outsider, who does not wish to be asleep, take a standard action to wake itself back up?

Apologies if this has been asked before...

No? I assume that an outsider who has elected to sleep is sleeping just how anyone else does. They would sleep until they are awoken by either outside stimulation or by normally waking up when they feel "rested enough".

The fact that they don't need rest is a bit confusing, however, I don't think that they would just take a standard action in their sleep to wake up. If anything, they would probably wake up and be fully alert in an instant(a free action).

Under what stimuli does the outsider make the decision to wake up? Even if you say it just takes a standard action, you're asleep and have little connection to what's actually happening around you. What reason do you have to decide to wake up?

Grand Lodge

A sleeping creature can't take a standard action, or most other kinds. It can make Perception checks at a penalty, which prompt it to wake up (stop sleeping and become awake, prone, not wielding any items and most likely flat-footed, on its initiative) if it perceives something unusual or dangerous.

The bolded part is to not prevent them or make them unable to sleep.

If an Outsider is put to sleep (by magic, most likely), it would take either a standard action from someone else (or injury) to wake it up. If an Outsider decides to sleep, my GM call would be that the Outsider in question would decide how long the sleeping state would last, unless prematurely ended by the above standard action/pain.

Perhaps the azata wouldn't want to seem "out of place" and tells their mortal friends that they'll try sleeping for eight hours too; the inevitable notices that mortals have to sleep to recharge their spells, and agrees to abide by that particular rule of the Material Plane.

...Kytons want to know what a rude awakening feels like, and sets their sleep timer for ten minutes, expecting the painful surprise before then?

So no, an Outsider wouldn't be able to wake itself up prematurely with no more or less ease than anyone who's ever been woken up earlier than expected. If something loud happens nearby and they make their Perception check, then they could wake up.

I had it sorta function like time travel, where they just remain asleep for years and years until something wakes them up.
