Variant Channeling (restricted by domain, deity, alignment?)

Rules Questions

Are variant channel selections restricted by your alignment, your domain, and/or your deity. I read a cleric guide that hinted to this, but did not explain how they reached this conclusion.

For instance, do you have to have a lawful alignment / lawful deity / lawful domain to select the law/justice variant channeling?

The only requirement is the Deity must grant that domain.
So if a deity gives the Law domain he can use the variant law channel.

It has to match the deities 'portfolio' which isn't exactly any of those things but is usually pretty easy to determine. Usually a write up on a diety will discuss their portfolio, if not it should be easy to figure out. Adabar for example could have law/justice as well as Cities and Contracts. Cayden Cailean would have Ale/Wine, Bravery and Freedom.

I doubt there are any non-lawful Gods with law/justice as part of their portfolio.

But some variants do not correspond to domains. I think the restriction is that the variant channeling selected must arguably be part of the deity's portfolio in some way. The deity's entry for areas of concern could supplement the list of domains for this purpose.

It would be nice to have an actual list though. I see the word "portfolio" bandied about in the core rulebook but no actual definition of what that means.
