Viorian Dekanti and Anti-Magic Shell (spoilerish)

Rise of the Runelords

What happens to Viorian while under the effects of an Anti-Magic Shell?

Is Chellan still able to function while within the AMS, seeing it's a major artifact? Or is it suppressed (along with Karzoug's telepathic bond)? Would she try to escape the effects of the AMS or continue attacking without any benefits from her magic items? (No doubt this is why 24 hours are needed before Chellan's influence wanes - that said, I'm not sure how it's expected for PCs to actually save her and have her help in an attack.)

Since it's a major artifact, it's unaffected by the AMF. The telepathy would be shut down, though.

Whether she would keep fighting probably depends on tactics - would she be better served by a retreat under the circumstances?

I think it is likely that she has a leg up on someone else inside an AMF given her +5 major artifact sword is still functional and all their stuff isn't. Probably fights.

The anti-magic field affects her less than it would a wizard of comparable level but she's still impacted considerably - while Chellan still works, all of her other magic items don't and they are of immense value in combat (and in monetary terms.) Recalculating her magic-deprived stats would be an effort onto itself.

As Kalindlara suggested - it probably depends on tactical situation. Is it easy for her to withdraw? Anti-magic field lasts 10 minutes per level and travels with the wizard so it's not easy to retreat and wait for it to end. And it might be a surprise to the pc's that her weapon is unaffected. She might target the wizard - taking the AMF caster out would at least make the affect stationary (unless another pc picks up the dead or unconscious wizard and starts carrying him around.)

Keep in mind this negates the magic of all the pc's (within 20 feet of the caster) as well. Having the only magic item in the fight might give her a notable advantage (as Ian Bell noted.)

And are you showing your age, Tangent? Anti-magic Shell is a 1E reference (2E dropped the hyphen.)

I always show my age. I'm proud of my First Edition AD&D heritage. :)
