Hey Crossbones hitting someone. We actually have an action shot of one of the *actual* bad guys!
There were groans behind me in my latest viewing about too large of an ensemble. Advanced viewings though keep reporting its solidly Captain centric, so I'm hoping the ensemble being so large keeps from overwhelming the Captain story.
I'm ambivalent over Spidey's costume, but glad he's in it. My gut feel is that the bulk majority of the footage from the two? trailers is all middle act.

I think it's very likely Spidey will switch sides in the third act.
I get that the cast is large but early reports are all suggesting that it's really an emotional drama centred on Steve-Buck-Tony. And all these guys have the chops to pull that off.
I have to say, I'm still much more excited about this than Bats vs Supes

That's my main concern at this time. I absolutely disliked Age of Ultron because it's a whirlwind with no real emotion or character development. There's not enough face time for all the actors in such a movie: comic books these days can spend an entire issue on Black Panther talking about something or interacting with his ancestors in a dream. I hope Black Panther doesn't come off as shallow or cartoony or silent bob in this one; he's one of the smartest guy on Earth.
Edit: I don't care for Spidey's 'squinting' eyes... if they wanted to give him a suit, they should have gone for the mechanized version from the get go.

The problem with going with the Iron Spider outfit is that it can't draw in the folks that know *Spiderman* from the movies in the traditional red and blue.
I suspect that it ties in with that?

They've changed everyone else's outfit since Avengers 1. You don't see Hawkeyes, Cap and Iron Man with their 'retro' sixties outfits. This spidey looks silly, kindof an half-hearted attempt at modernization with a plain clothes weird costume, while all the other Avengers are wearing leather and kevlar.... my two cents anyways.
Callous Jack |
I liked it, Spider-Man and Black Panther look great, especially Panther chasing down Bucky on the bike. I was excited to see Wanda battling Vision and wonder if that means any future storylines between them. I hope to see Wonder Man someday...

Who is playing the spidy in Cap 3?
Tom Holland, who will also be playing Spider-Man in Sony's re-reboot of the series.

Well...this is spiderman's first outing in the MCU. Better to go with something recognizable to the general audience, especially since they want this movie to be the intro of the character for the Sony movies. Go with a weird costume and People might not realize the characters are suppose to be the same.

I love the suit. The contracting lens eye thingies are a neat way to give Spidey "animated" eyes, and they no doubt come with some cool tech features. The rest of the suit is pure retro joy with some modern tweaks.
It's not as good as the suit from ASM2, IMO (say what you want about the movie, but they nailed the suit), but it's still pretty killer.
I was never a fan of the Iron Spider suit. I read Spider-Man for Spider-Man, not Spider-themed Iron Man.

All of the other Avengers were outfitted by SHIELD or are Iron Man/War Machine. Spider-Man's costume actually looks somewhat plausibly like it might have been sewn together by a poor teenager from Queens.

The first hour or so of Captain America The First Avenger is pretty much as perfect as an origin story gets for me. It pretty much gets EVERYTHING right about Steve and who he is.
The rest of the movie struggles a little bit to maintain that intensity and as a result the movie as a whole suffers for it.
My favorite and what i consider the best of the Marvel Studio films is Captain America The Winter Soldier. Its a political thriller disguised as a super hero film and holy crap is it GLORIOUS. The first Avengers movie is second. Despite a relatively slow start, when its time for the payoff? WOW. Its one of the only movies in recent years that I saw in the theater at least 3 times during its initial run. I saw it again for a fourth time in the theater as part of the Avengers \ Avengers Age of Ultron double feature.
The problem that I have with IM3 is that as much as I'm a fan of Shane Black? I wanted to see an Iron Man movie directed by Shane Black. Not a Shane Black Iron Man movie. I dont know if that makes any sense but it did in my head and as I was writing it. I REALLY hated the twist with the "Mandarin". HATED IT. Even though upon repeat viewings the rest of the movie has grown on me every time we get to that reveal I'm like "UGH"

That's all pretty close to my take on them as well. Though I also really liked Guardians.
I don't pay enough attention to directors to know what you mean about Shane Black. I also really disliked the Mandarin thing. I was also not happy with the climactic battle. I wanted Iron Man in the final battle.thejeff |
It was more of a Tony Stark movie, and not as much an Iron Man movie. I liked it though, it wasn't bad. Certainly not my favorite by any means, but not bad. :-)
And I was perfectly happy with the focus on Stark without the armor throughout the movie, but for the climax I wanted Iron Man back. Or some clever way he could actually win as Stark without the armor, which might have been cool.
A horde of remote controlled IM suits and Stark getting blown out of one after another didn't work for me.

I liked the 3rd IM movie. Better than the 2nd one IMNSHO.
Looking forward to civil war.
On a side note, the Mrs. who is not a follower of comics in the least, really gravitated to the Gwyneth Paltrow character throughout and at the end of IM3. She kept asking what happens to her now, is she a superhero of some sort? Since I don't know the lore that well I had no answer.

In the comics, she has had an armored hero persona as 'Rescue' with a suit of armor that is less offensive and more utility-based than Iron Man's typical suits. She has also spent time as 'Hera,' the coordinator / overwatch / 'Oracle' for a team known as the Order, and for that role had some sort of implants that allowed her to interface with surveillance equipment and process a lot of information to better update and coordinate her team.
With the MCU version, Pepper's 'Thin Man' routine with Tony at the beginning of the first Avengers movie was one of my favorite bits, and I was disappointed at the end of Iron Man 3 when the Extremis powers were stripped from her, since she seemed to have control of them (and wasn't at risk of blowing up) and would have been the MCU's first super-powered female character (other than Sif).
As for the MCU movies, if I were to rank them;
Avengers
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man
Captain America: the First Avenger
Captain America 2: the Winter Soldier
Iron Man 2
Thor
Thor 2: the Dark World
Iron Man 3
Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
The Incredible Hulk
I'm hoping that Civil War goes in the top group...

Good news jeff, the Mandarin kinda disliked the whole Mandarin thing too!
Yeah, I get it. However a short released well after the movie doesn't change my experience of the movie itself.
Nor do I really see what it's setting up. Sure, it's foreshadowed the Mandarin again, but he's pissed at the actor and maybe the Extremis guy - not at Tony, so there's not really anything there.
And that's even assuming they do another Iron Man movie in the near future. It's not in the schedule.

This is my Marvel movie Order of Awesome.
Captain America 2: the Winter Soldier
Avengers
Iron Man
Captain America: the First Avenger
Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
Iron Man 3
Thor 2: the Dark World
The Incredible Hulk
Thor
Iron Man 2
Very close to my own, though I'd probably switch Thor and Thor 2, and both Ant-Man and Guardians would slot in above Avengers 2.

Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers
Iron Man
Antman
Age of Ultron
Thor 2
Thor 1
Captain America First Avenger
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 3
Iron Man 2
First four are great, Antman through First Avenger are good to okay, and the last three are kind of weak but still watchable. Basically I wouldn't list any of them as bad specifically, unlike say Xmen 3 or Catwoman.
GreyWolfLord |
Hmm, that's a toughie...
I'd say it's probably
Guardians of the Galaxy
Thor
Ant Man
Captain America 2
Thor 2
Avengers
Iron Man 2
Captain America 1
Avengers 2
Ironman
Ironman 3
Incredible Hulk
Maybe I'm just not an Iron Man fan...though I think it's more to do with the womanizing which really takes it down a LOT of Notches for me.
