I looked at my calendar this morning and saw that the great Gary Gygax died 8 years ago today. I thought it would be nice to take a moment of silence (or, better yet, toll a D20) in honor of the guy that created it all.

For anyone interested in knowing more about Gary, I just finished "Empire of Imagination", a well-researched biography and a great read.
100% agreed!
Empire of Imagination is an EXCELLENT book!

Kind of disappointed to see this was moved down to Gamer Talk.
I get why, I guess, but for crying out load - if *anyone* deserves to stay up at the top of the forums in a prominent spot (instead of getting relegated way down at the bottom of the forums...) it was Gary Gygax!!! Especially on the actual anniversary of his death - maybe move it tomorrow or something but ... sigh ...
Oh well ...

We love Gary too, but this is the more appropriate forum for the topic, given how much he's impacted gaming beyond just Paizo.

I heard Tracy Hickman talk about him once.
GenCon 2007, Gary came to Tracy's Killer Breakfast (you should go if you never have, it's very fun). He got up on stage, interacted with the crowd, a good time was had by all. After the show, Gary said that he had so much fun he'd bring the family to it next year.
Before that could happen though, he died. But it also meant that the last time Tracy saw this dear old friend, they were playing a game together.
