I just moved to LA and I am looking for a group to play with.
I've checked out a few of the stores around here and gotten pretty much the same response from all the guys running them. "Yes, we have Pathfinder players. No, I don't know who they are".
So, anyone looking for a new player?

Where in LA are you looking for? (LA is a very large area)! There are a number of established gaming groups and stores throughout the region. You might want to consider going to some of the PFS events throughout the region. Most of the events and store listings are here https://www.facebook.com/groups/PFSLaGrandLodge/
get involved in a few games and I am sure that you can get hooked up with some home campaigns and players once you get to know a few people.

Yeah LA area can get quite huge if we don't know which part with urban sprawl and traffic. Because an hour commute through slogging traffic each way makes it harder to get to pathfinder games.

Did you find any groups with openings in the LA area? I want to join too went to that Facebook page but didn't really find anything that helped.
Did you look in the file section, since it lists all the stores in the area, along with their warhorn sites to sign up, and the addresses of the stores?
Also since it is a very active group, you can post a question on it and the VO's in the area can find your requests faster.
