Serpent's Rise: Zurnzal's mission (Spoilers)

When we played through this, the player running Zurnzal did not understand that the faction mission was "kidnap someone and replace them": he focused on planting incriminating evidence on different Pathfinders.

Now I'm prepping it, and when I read through Zurnzal's mission, it seems really, really vague. Did all of your players figure it out? Did you have to give them any hints?

I've run Serpent's Rise 3 times at this point. Twice, Zurnzal's player got it without any hints. Once, the player worked on intimidating his target to leave town and then disguised himself as his target. It does seem pretty vague.

My experience is about the same as Rigby's. Mild prodding might be needed, but most people seem to get the hint.

When I ran it, the player followed Joliryn and after she got the information, the player got to use his namesake Prestige Class. It was efficient, brutal, and evil... quite appropriate for the character.

ive had to prompt - one time they just kidnapped some random NPC by tanking their rolls..

When I played the scenario, I was confused by it. I was assuming I needed to assume their identity and cause trouble, so I was looking for someone close enough to Zurnzal in appearance to pull it off. Ultimately, when we figured out nobody had seen Aram Zey in a while, the mastermind character in the group polymorphed me into Aram Zey. Hilarity (and then murder) ensued.

Same impression I got. The idea that you can randomly find a traitor but only at this one random location was a little wtf?

Scarab Sages 4/5

The fun part is that Zurnzal doesn't have the Charisma or Bluff to really pull off lying at all, so I mostly just stood there while the rest of the group said things to the guards like "Open that door! Don't you know this is Aram Zey!" I really wanted to kill Aram Zey while I looked like him, but it wasn't meant to be.

I figured it out pretty easily but when my roommate played this scenario he played the same character and utterly botched it. The Pathfinder thugs that got sent to teach him a lesson were surprisingly merciful.

the revised version of the scenario makes it clearer in the handout whats expected

>We have updated the Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–98: Serpents Rise <snip>
>Revised text of Handout #6 to clarify objectives

I've only run it with the revised text.

I hate to see what it was like before.

Thanks! I'll double check which version I have.

Most times they kill janira ...and disguise jolyrin as janira

reading through this and we wasted a LOT of time on the who goes where to try to do their thing when I played it. Definitely needs a sign in the sandbox for a few things.

When I played Zurnzal I double-crossed Arminaldi. When Arminaldi went off into the woods, Zurnzal stalked him, knocked him unconscious and dragged him back and left him with a note with some incriminating details to let everyone know he was a traitor.
