Scarab Sages

I'm not sure that monster is available because it exceeds the max 35 HD on the base creature.
Or are you not using that specific creature. There's a lot of stuff on that sheet I'm just not familiar with, so sorry if I'm misreading things.

<casts necromancy on thread>

Hey all, so I've moved, and am currently temporarily staying with mom and my puppy. Sadly, her apartment is too small to game, and with my traveling a lot(went to my first GenCon, Atl and New Orleans), there's been no gaming since before June 1st.

Unfortunately, in the interim, two of the players had what is currently an irreconcilable falling out. One of them is willing to at the least consider playing via PbP thus, I am looking to possibly start running some of my game here on the boards. The one who is considering it has a bit of a hectic week, so wants that time to properly think over playing in this game, especially on PbP, which is he isn't overly fond of.

All that being said, if you any of you are still interested in being my big bads, I would love to have your help for my upcoming machinations!!

I'll give this thread a couple of days to possibly get responses(Both old and maybe new), but then I want to move things to PMs in case the game does end up being played here, as I don't want my players even seeing this thread, if possible.

I wouldn't mind still playing the big-bads. Whenever it be using the rules that we've had throughout the thread, or something else entirely, I'll be more than happy to play as a big-bad. Definitely a fun change of pace.

Though I probably would have to put some finishing touches on the characters, and we never did actually the other stuff to spend our legendary gifts on...

So you're looking to add one new mythic PC and are still looking for some awesome bad guys?

Oh, count me in!

Just think a reposting and clearing up of the original rules would be in order.

very much interested Monkeygod
I still have the villain PC made,
so what the plan for PC building :)

I will accept any invitation to play this character. :P

I'm still here as well.

Anybody willing to operate out of Taldor? If so, PM for me to discuss some stuff.

Also, at this time, I am unsure if we are getting a new PC or if taking the game to an impersonal medium like PbP might be sufficient.

Aside from the Legendary Gifts, was there anything else folks needed rulings, clarifications, etc on?

Pretty much just the artifact. I think we need some sort of standard ruleset we each use for our artifact, ya know?

Edit: I don't think Valk is fit for Taldor, so. She's designed for a specific world space.

I have other plans for Valk.

I'll see if I can cobble together something interesting for artifacts from various other books I possess.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps some form of the intelligent item creation section?

Give us a total amount of gold to "spend" on our intelligent item, giving it powers, senses, and such?

... Taldor? You know, whilst I'm not sure how well Chakram Girl will do (or how powerful she actually is in all honestly. She's awesome concetputally, but I have no idea how well she'll do), but I know have a Vanguard Commander Warlord, who would likely be perfect for a place of knights, heros and valor.

Seiryū certainly isn't native to Taldor, nor does he make his home base there, but he wouldn't be against visiting on business. That being, fighting powerful people, and using shadow organizations to train up powerful people to fight in the future.

I certainly wouldn't mind helping out (I realize that I'm late in coming to the thread)

Looking over things, I can tell you the character that I built in my head while reading your character creation guidelines:

An advanced Rakshasa Nightmare Lord Worm-that-walks mesmerist 20 | Bard 15/Enchanting Courtesan 10 | Archmage 5

Legendary abilities would be immunity to positive and negative energy and a permanent 100' aura of mind fog.

Welp.

If Vrog wants to write that concept up, that probably fills my need for one of you in Taldor. That's pretty much perfect for what I'm looking. Save perhaps for the Worm-that-Walks part, but that can probably be worked around.

That being said, I could definitely use about 2 or 3 more epic villains, Bigrig's uber necromancer not included. So about 4-5 total.

If Vrog doesn't want to fill that spot, I could have my kidnapped princess be of Taldor nobility, giving him a tie to that locale. But I imagine he'll fill the bill of courtroom manipulator better than a side character would. :P

That's uber-dragon-necromancer to you!

Hmm... Hmm...

Are we sure we aren't the Veiled Dragons? An awful lot of us seem to be dragons.

Would love to play a baddy to the party.
Have a ideas that would be fun, Have old PC built for this as well.
MG would have to clear stuff but I think it would be great fun.

Wait, who else is a dragon? You're a dragon, I'm an undead dragon, that's about it.

Good point.

Give a moment to cast some psionic polymorph equivalents.

Hmm... I lost the guy I made for this before, but I definitely would love to make a big bad enemy guy. The two ideas I have are completely opposite each other; a Blademaster type person and an Archwizard. Either way, I'd probably tweak the Azlanti-blooded human to represent someone who's been alive a lot longer than most humans. Either one would've survived the fall of Azlant, but one of them would've caused it and the other would be trying to stop it from happening again through rather unscrupulous means.

I could give a stab at writing that character up, but it wouldn't be til this weekend. Do you have a good source of pathfinder related epic shenanigans?

Look on this thread for a post by a guy called Submissions. He has the information you need.

http://paizo.com/people/Submissions

If we start back up on again via pbp, I don't think it would be till at least the end of Sept that we were ready to begin.

My idea is a Super smart, big old Devil, A kind of spy master for Asmodeus, all LE, very much playing by some set world shifting rules.

The big bureaucracy of hell behind them giving aid. The type if unseen hand manipulator and player working for who knows what end.
I always like to think most Big bad's that work well think they are right in what they are doing. No matter how evil that moral campus is, They have a number of agents who act as henchmen, some times even fighting each other as port of the big old devils plans.

Well, like I said. I have two characters in mind for this Epic Game, and I'll list the basic ideas behind them quickly to see what is most interested in.

Keleran. The Crystal Raptor, is known to lead 'Death In The Night', despite the somewhat laughable name, they are not a laughable manner at all. Due to her psionic powers Death In The Night specialize in high-speed raids and assassinations. Appearing in one spot without warning, blitzing all those there, and vanishing swiftly. Keleran herself is said to be a monster, able to slaughter an entire hall of knights within 30 seconds after appearing thanks to her skills with the chakram.

Whilst Death In The Night have been known to work for hire at times, the prices are extremely high, and more often than not their only accept jobs which allows them to benefit in ways more than just the payment. Whatever their goal might be, Keleran is not a person to mess with.

* * * * * * *

Valerem is a legendary hero. Strong, powerful and charasmtic. Valerem seems like the pinnacle of what it means to a knight. Sure, he has a giant dinosaur instead of an actual horse. But considering his large size, a horse simply wouldn't fit. Inspiring, courageous, and courteous to all, what is there to not love about Valerem?

Of course, underneath this surface is a dark reality. Valerem has long since grown tired of the world, tired of the never-ending fight against evil. He has come to believe that evil is just the natural way of life, that no matter how much good a person does in the world, the evil will always outweigh it. So, he has embraced it. Whilst he still gives an image of the ideal knight to the world, Valerem walks the path of evil now.

Thinking the Devil's spy master is an incarnate, Pison-telepath, Dread, pulling strings from behind a bunch of lesser baddys. He looks like a beautiful elf boy or old man in rags.

So I had a lull at work today and was looking at the Rakshasa and I discovered there is a 'shasa that has scaling powers. With a little retweaking, I'm making my submission a Rajadhiraja Rakshasa | Mighty simple template/Mesmerist 20/Enchanting Courtesean 10 | Trickster 6. He should be able to just straight socially destroy anyone, has the spellcasting of both a 33rd level sorcerer and a 29th level Mesmerist, and if he has to, he can go toe-to-toe with most physical combatants.

Mighty is not on the allowed list of templates, and is also expressly forbidden.

Nice pick on the Rajadhirajas, though. One trait, and you'll have CL 35 and two standard actions per round.

ONE from the following list:
Blood Knight, Daemon Host, Demon Possessed, Devil Bound, Devil Bound (3PP), Dread Lich, Dread Vampire, Graveknight, Half-Celestial, Half-Dragon, Half-Fiend(all types), Inveigler, Lycanthrope, Mummy Lord, Ravener, any simple(except Advanced). No simple class templates.
Others approved upon asking.

Quickling, Dread Wraith, and other incorporeal templates are not allowed.

according to that, the only not-allowed simple templates are the class ones and advanced. Unless I missed something.

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

Mighty is Advanced++++, unless I'm mistaken.

Mighty is not allowed. Pretty sure that was included. I will try and repost them later.

advanced is a specific simple template.

...

Okay, 5 levels of vigilante it is!

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

I do not believe you are dumb enough to pretend to not see that the Mighty template is simply 5 CR worth of Advanced-style "my numbers are higher". While they may not directly be linked, they are thematically the same thing at different power levels.

all of the simple templates are pretty much that.

I work with what I'm given. If you say "no advanced template" or "no fighter" I take that at what it means. The internet is a far too imprecise method of communication to attempt to assume any meaning other than literal.

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

Many of them are. Except: Aerial, Aqueous, Celestial, Chthonic, Cold Iron, Colour-Blighted, Dark, Entropic, Fiendish, Fiery Creature, Giant, Primordial, Resolute, and Young.

Each of these might be recognized in a way other than "wow, this guy's numbers are much higher" such as "Oooh, it's a baby troll." or "Oh, it's an angelicy Elk"

As far as working with what you're given literally, certainly, I do not begrudge you that. It was not on the submissions page, and I don't hold it against you. But I do raise an eyebrow in "really?" that you didn't get the reference of Mighty being Advanced only more so.

The initial post, just so people are aware of what I'm looking for and why:

Warning long explanation below:

Some of you may be familiar with my Myths and Legends game, which is currently on hold, at least here on the boards. (Yes, I plan to re-open it, hopefully soon).

For those who aren't, my brother came up with the idea for a table top game where all the players can take turns running a campaign arc for a high powered, mythic, epic level, gestalt game set on Golarion.

Right now, we're level 26, gestalt, with two tiers of mythic. My brother is currently running his arc, involving a dimensional breach on the planet Triaxus that could doom the galaxy if not sealed.

My arc will involve the Spawn of Rovagug, but as I've been reading Occult Mysteries, I decided that I wanted to use the Veiled Masters as the super secret big bads.

And that's where I'm asking for you all to help:

I need at least six(possibly seven, maybe at the very max nine) powerful, badass, epic beings to use as my villains.

Here's the 'catch': Because these are hidden, deep dark villains, buried under webs of lies, millennia of deceit, and are master manipulators of master manipulators, its entirely possible the PCs(myself included) will never actually uncover the Veiled Masters.

Thus, they may not even be needed in game.

I mention this because, while I know there's plenty of people on the boards who enjoy making characters just to make em, I want to be 100% up front that I may, possibly, maybe not end up needing the stats people come up with.

And I just as very well could end up needing all of them. Depending on how the game goes, the heroes could in fact learn and reveal one or more Veiled Masters, and decide to do battle with them.

If that's the case, I will absolutely need the stats, and the player to take the fight to my PCs.

********************************************************

Also, character creation:

Some clarification first:

MY Veiled Masters are not super aboleths. That's boring and simple. Or rather, not just aboleths.

Character Creation

Level 35 Gestalt

Prestige Classes are allowed, but must be on a side that qualifies for it.

Race Any, including monsters and custom. CR takes up one half of your gestalt. (I believe that's the norm, lol)

HOWEVER, the creature in question MUST either have some form of innate ability to change shape(the special quality, a SLA, or a spell known) that is at least equivalent to Alter Self. OR it must be have class levels that allow it to cast Alter Self or a more powerful spell.

If you are going to build a custom race you may either:

A) Take an existing race, and upgrade it to 50 total Race Points(Ie an Aasimar is 15 RP. You could spend up to 35 additional RP to upgrade it) or

B) Make a brand new race with 50 race points.

If you choose to make a brand new creation, you MUST include some sort of societal history if its a full on race, or a really good backstory if its a one-shot experiment type creation.

Ability Scores Base 12, 30 point buy, 1 to 1 ratio.

Mythic 5 tiers of mythic.

Sources Any Paizo. Dreamscarred Press psionics. Beyond that, minor things like feats, traits, spells, etc from 3pp is fine, but must be approved by me first.

No other 3pp classes aside from DSP psionics allowed, even other DSP stuff.

Legendary Games Mythic Mania stuff, auto accepted as well.

Templates Yes, but I will be posting an approved list later you can choose ONE from for free(aka no level hit). Otherwise, no.

Wealth/Gear Automatic Bonus Progression with a slight adjustment:

Armor/shields and weapons are bought as normal.

If some mathematically awesome person could do me a favor and determine how much gold a 35th level character should have based on the WBL chart, I would greatly appreciate it. Same for the legendary gifts used by ABP.

Also, you get a signature item, that is the roughly a minor artifact in terms of uniqueness and power for free. Make it awesome lads and lasses, lol.

Leadership You get this feat for free. We heroes did as well, cuz even at 25th gestalt, you're freakin famous enough to auto get this. Use this chart Epic Leadership to determine cohort and followers. Also, you get a +5 to your score in addition to what you feel you should get via Vile Leadership

Favored Minion Another cool bonus we heroes have is we each have a favored minion that's an outsider of some sort that we call/summon.

Feel free to create one as well, choosing from any of the various outsider races, adding an additional 15 gestalt levels to its racial HD.

Special Powers/Unique Abilities Villains, especially epic, ultra uber badasses, need some stuff to set them apart from the not just the heroes, but also more common evil.

Create 3-5 unique powers or abilities that fit your villain. Feel free to go a little nuts, but please keep yourselves in check. No auto wins or unbeatables, please.

*******************************************************************

Finally, reposting the approved templates list:

Blood Knight, Dread Lich, Dread Vampire, Graveknight, Half-Celestial, Half-Dragon, Half-Fiend(all types), Inveigler, Lycanthrope, Mummy Lord, any simple(except Advanced).

This is a quick scan of the PFSRD templates, so if there's one you really want, run it by me, and I might allow it.

Just a reminder, limit one template, no level loss. Yes, I realize this means pretty much everybody will take a template, that's totally fine.

However, since these villains won't be a part of a party, there's no harm/penalty, in opting to not take one, should any of them just flat out not fit your concept.

Dread Wraith, and other incorporeal templates are not allowed. They are too strong, and too easily broken.

No Quickling.
****************************************************

With all of that, there's been a lot of extra rules, tips, suggestions, etc that I've posted. Much of the rules are, I believe, in the above Submissions page.

Read my posts for a lot of the other stuff, if they interest you.

So... should I continue working on my two characters, especially the fluff behind them? Or do you prefer one over the other in terms of character idea Monkey?

Great thanks Monkeygod , Ill update, The Sapphire's [player PC and set up the Devil Big Bad] On that

@Monkeygod would you let in

spheres of power.

Would really like to see what can be done at this level.

Work continues on my super Rakshasa (who will not have a template: He's rockstar enough not to need one). He's the scariest social engineer I have ever built, and I've started writing his typical M.O./backstory and it fills me with dread (if I ever had to face him) and glee (if I ever had to run him seriously).

His cohort will be an information gathering specialist (basically, the guy who runs his espionage efforts).

His Superminion will be a mythic succubus.

and his permadominate will be a Solar.

I really, really. REALLY doubt Monkey is going to allow an entire sub-system into the game. Especially one that is even less tested and well known that Path of War is.

Fury of the Tempest wrote:

Well that's the point of asking, isn't it, Tempest?

On a completely unrelated note, I've been flipping through things and I realized that a lot of the stuff that doesn't work because of a lack of feats becomes wayyyyyy more viable when you've got a good solid THIRTY FIVE LEVELS of said feats to work with. 18 feats just from leveling and then whatever classes give you... not exactly an insignificant number of feats. Things like a spear dancing dimensional dervish aren't quite so tricky to pull off with this kind of leeway. I'm getting plenty of ideas and I kind of wish that my home game could be relied on to get to this level of power so that I could USE them for something, but just building some of them will be fun.

With regards to spear dancing style, the offhand uses light mace statistics for the off-hand end. Does that mean things like Warpriest Favored Weapon progression would need to apply to light maces to up its damage dice, or would favored weapon and the like work since Weapon Focus: Spear works on the back end of the thing too?

@Vrog, I would suggest Inveigler though of course, as I said above, you don't have to have a template. Just seems it would be rather fitting for your concept.

@Panic, yea, as Fury stated, no to Spheres of Power. Only sub set of rules I will be allowing is DSP's Psionics.

@Fury, Valerem seems to be the more interesting overall of the two, so I'm leaning towards that one.

@All,

I think the best way to handle the artifacts is for each of you to talk to me privately.

Give me a description, name(if possible), type of item, a general theme, and one sort of power you would like, and we'll go from there.

Look to the already created artifacts for inspiration, not just from Pathfinder/D&D, but myths, other games, etc as well.

Alright then, Valerem it is!

Any idea how long it'll be before we get the Legendary Gifts options by the by? I don't want to have the same fate as last time, and have them just never turn up. Sooo... the sooner we get them, the better imo.

Thanks MG I fully understand you not wanting another system to complicate things even more. Working on big bad now

I'm interested in seeing what it would look like, so if you want to make a Spheres of Power version just for funzies and to see what would happen, I'd love to see it and review it with you.

... So... how's everything going for anyone...?

How's the Legendary Gifts coming along?
