Why is asking for someone to share the Mythic Spell Compendium once they have already brought it, asknig for too much?

Its like saying someone can't share a video game that they brought with their friends. Or they can't give a book to someone once they've read it.

Plus, its rather hypocritcal to tell me buy the stuff for the game. When the character creation itself links to the d20pfsrd. I haven't brought the Pathfinder Core Ruelbook, Advanced Class Guide or Advanced Players Guide. Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Equipment, Ultimate Magic. Nor Pathfinder Unchained, Weapon Master's Handbook or the Pathfinder Bestiary's

I haven't brought Dreamscared Pass' Ultimate Psionics either. Nor Advanced Archetypes II from Flaming Crab Games. How about The Way of the Samurai from Rite Publishing? (Even if I'm unsure if that ranger archetype was actually allowed...)

Why should I pay for this single book, which in all likelyhood I won't be using that much again. When practically everything else about my characters has been created for free already?

People put a lot of time and effort into creating Pathfinder. Yet no one is telling me that I am bad and I should feel bad for using the d20pfsrd website. That in order to play Pathfinder lots and lots of money buying all those rulebooks when I don't exactly have much money to spare at the moment.

I use DSP's Psionics and Path of War all the time. Yet no one tells me I need to go out and buy the books whenever I use them. Same with the Chakram Dervish, no one is tellnig me to go out and buy the book that the archetype is in. I just link the webpage, and its done.

So why should I buy the Mythic Spell Compendium? Why can't I ask for someone to share it with me? What makes that book, soooo ultra mega special that I MUST MUST MUST buy it in order to use it for a character. When I already make my characters for free using a website that everyone uses?

Why should I buy the Mythic spell Compendium?

Because I don't see any reasons at all.

I have the pdf, which I got as a backer for their kickstarter.

I, personally, am not willing to share a book like that for free. When books are put up on d20PFSRD, it's with the company's full permission and support. This would not be that. Rail against my decision all you like, but it won't chance my mind.

Now, what I can do for you is this:

Figure out how many mythic spells you get, and create a list of spells you would want the mythic versions of. I will then copy them to you in a PM.

That's the best I can offer.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Asking once is not to much. Asking twice just in case they didn't hear you the first time isn't too much. Asking many times over and over with increasing urgency and attitude of "I am owed this, why isn't anyone giving it to me?", would have already disqualified you as a submitter if I were the GM.

Because this book, unlike the others, was not offered up to be freely available. If you don't think it's worth your money, don't buy it. If you do, buy it. If someone else gives it to you for free, they are circumventing the rules the people who are selling this put in place.

Monkeygod, What do you think of the Lifespark construct template?

Twice. I asked. TWICE. Both on Page 5.

Once was a casual 'Hey, can someone link this', the second question followed up me asking just what it contained, and being informed that yes, it did have Mythic Spells for pretty much everything. Which was why I tend followed up by asking if I could have it, as not having it would greatly hamper my characters.

Then the entire discussion about just how much it would affect my characters, and then the entire 'If you want it, buy it' thing cropped up.

So please, actually check to see how many times someone has asked for something, before making comments 'If I were DM, I would of kicked you out already'.

Oh. I'M SORRY. I didn't know I could have clothes handed down to me when my big brother grew out of them! Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know I coudl give a friend a video game if they really wanted it, and I don't want it anymore.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know that I can't let a friend borrow a Pathfinder Handbook I brought in order to use it to make their character for the campaign I'm going to run where that material is quite heavily used.

That's what your saying here. The fact its a digital product and not a physical one makes NO difference.

Regards. People are allowed their own opinions on this matter. If they believe that digital good should not be shared as equally as a physical product, then that is there opinion.

I guess I'll have to settle with what's offered as it seems everyone is in that camp. Really, REALLY sucks, because being able to see what the Mythic Spells actually do and being able to pick and choose them is a substantial boon than just picking spells I normally would take, and hoping the mythic versions are good.

Scarab Sages

I think we are having an issue with tone here. I suspect things are being read as more accusatiry and hostile than intended.

Nevertheless, not much progress today. I'm diving head first into Wild Shape and trying to determine if it's worth it for me. And today's real life work was just crazy so I had less time to work on this. :/

Just a reminder: *there's no immediate deadline for this.*

House ruling on a feat from the epic pdf:

Mysterious Epiphany requries you to take Mysterious Insight three times, thus gaining six revelations.

This is the same amount a 19th level Oracle would posses, before gaining a final revelation at 20th level.

As my cohort is an oracle, and I would not mind her having not just a second mystery's revelations, but also a second final one, I am making this ruling as I feel two feats which you could take by 23rd level, to gain a second capstone is fully unacceptable and incredibly cheesy.

Scarab Sages

GM is wise. GM is just. :)

Now, how about that lifespark template, eh?

I'm only being pushy because this golem special companion will take a lot of work so I'd rather not do the work if you dislike the foundational template. :)

Oh, I know. But if I don't keep myself accountable I may not finish, and that would be sad.

Yeah. Good thing too, as we don't have anything to spend the LEgendary Gift on yet. :P

Added these to the Submissions page. I have created a section called houserules at the bottom. I will have to re-organize things :/

Btw my character is coming along ^-^

Hey, great work Submissions.

If I may, here's a place where more up to date information on my submission can be found. :)

I haven't changed much other than adding the backstory, but I may add a LOT more soon, due to PMs with the other dragon

And I've also settled on a Chaotic Surge wilder for my caster levels. Whee random caster level!

Scarab Sages

Ya, I like wider a lot. But on a nymph it just didn't feel Right :)

So, for one of my special abilities, I was wondering, could I have it so that every single one of Seiryū's unarmed attacks launches a Prismatic Spray? I ask because I have it as an at will, and at the save DC (31), it would be effectively flavor, with only the reflex saves able to do some chip damage against Davin. And it fits very well for the flashy showman Seiryū to launch his own special effects lighting with every attack. If you think that's too much, I'd be fine with it being on one or two attack per turn limit.

If you're thinking "Uh, being able to force that many saving throws a round means people'll roll a nat 1 eventually..."

I present ability number two..

Flawless Upon the Stage (Su)
"Our performance must be perfect! Don't let me down."
Anyone within the range of Seiryū's frightful presence, including himself, treats natural 1's as natural 20's.

Scarab Sages

Ha! That's pretty creative. I like it. :)

Totally forgot about a trio of templates that are totally allowed:

Daemon Host, Demon Possessed, Devil-Bound(either).

Edit: Also, Choon, gonna have to say no to Lifespark, seems a little too complicated.

Is all you want is the sentient aspect? We could just go with Awakened on it, despite that not normally affecting golems.

Scarab Sages

Copy that, boss. Thanks!

Alright. Here is the Crunch of Villain Number 1. Cohort and Favoured Minion not included, but it does have the break down of their numbers, as well as what I have in mind for their Legendary Artifact and Unquie Talents. If anything strikes you as too powerful, or too weak, please, feel free to tell me about it.

Scarab Sages

13-20x4 crit? Wow. I didn't know that was possible.

Took a lot of investment to get.

Metal stats eh? Word! Is he gonna be a Metallica golem? Or perhaps a AC/DC one? Ooh, what about an Anthrax golem? LOL

Scarab Sages

You joke, but that's actually given me an idea... I could totally do that...
Adamantine golem 19, unchained monk 16/Skald (war drummer) 20, Something-that-stacks-performance 15.
I propose the metalist golem ever!

That's....scary. It could punch everything to death AND make it sound beautiful.

Scarab Sages

I can haz metal point buy? ;)

So... might I ask what people think of Keleran? Specifically, I want people's opinions on her Legendary Artifact and Unique Abilities. Are they Unique? Are they interesting, and set her apart? On the one hand, most of them give her quite a boost to her fighting prowess. On the other hand, they are also rather flavourful. Admittedly only ability of them actually have flavour text, but hopefully the vast majority of them gives a unquie combat encounter with Keleran.

That being said, I really need to look at ways to increase Keleran's range. 30ft is kinda small for someone who wants to spam Temporal Acceleration to gain distance on her enemies, and doesn't give much room for her to use her Ricochet ability.

Through, now that I think about it, I could say that Keleran's psionic powers allows her to not only keep her mind blade solid when she throws it, so it returns to her hand instead of dissipating. But allows her to throw it say... twice as far a normal? 60ft range is much more comfortable... and that ability probably leaves me room to expand her AoO range from Improved Snap Shot by a factor of two as well.

Scarab Sages

I haven't had the chance to really look her over. I'll provide some feedback soon.

"Ricochet Mind Blade
By influencing the path of her mind blades when thrown with her potent psionics, Keleran can have her thrown mind blades hit three different targets before returning to her hand. Each attack on a target after the first has a cumulative -5 penalty."

A classic for throwing weapons, this is my favorite of your abilities. It increases your capacity to fight a large party without increasing your capacity to insta-gib a single target out of the fight.

~~
"Midnight Malestorm
The Dark Tempest Class Features of Power Strike and Power Critical can be used as a free action, and can affect any given target with the same power multiple times per round."

Seeing what these do aren't included in your bio and I'm not going to track them down. I'm gonna move right on by.

~~

"Temporal Bolt
Whenever the effect of Temporal Accleration comes to an end, Keleran can expend her Psychic Strike, in order to manifest the Energy Bolt power as if she had spent an amount of power points of the power equal to her Psychic Strike Die."

I think this isn't too horrifying, as I understand it Energy Bolt shouldn't be too scary at our level. But, I don't know how much you've put into it. Unless you have some ability to do force damage or some other esoteric element type with your energy bolt however, it seems a bit odd to be all "Face the power of my time manipulation, a blast of fire?"

~~

"Psionic Coup De Grace
By using A full-round action and a move action, as well as expanding her psionic focus, Keleran can make a single ranged attack with her mind blade against an enemy. This attack is touch attack under the effect of Psionic Precise Shot. If it hits, it is treated as a Coup De Grace attack that ignores immunity to critical hits."

You have to invest a lot into this.... But it will almost always hit, and almost always force a save in the neighborhood of DC 200 or die. This is an ability to say, "I get to kill a player a round with no interaction." Unless you do not have the ability to draw psionic focus from some other source like a psi-crystal or otherwise the psionic focus economy, and losing psionic focus will significantly penalize you, this seems very overbearing.

~~

"Shimmering with latent Psionic Energy, the Ommimind Crystals acts as a powerful catalyst for a variety of Psionic Effects. The Ommimind Cyrstals are treated as a +5 Crystalline Focus, able to be used for any affect noted under the Crystalline Focus Items. With the extra effect of being able to Psychic Strikes on one of the Crystals as a Free Action, or both with the Blade Skill Dual Imbude.

Additionally, any power manifested through the Ommimind Crystals, such as through Martial Power, Power Strike, or simply using the Ommimind Crystals as a focus, increases the Manifester Level of that power of +5, and it is treated as having a further 5 Power Points Spent on it."

Alright, I don't know what's going in the first paragraph, so my thing is completely based off the second.

How will the players know you have this artifact and what it is doing in any way other than "This guy's number's are really big."? If that bit's in the first paragraph, my bad, but looking at it, it just seems like ways to get better action economy and stronger powers, indistinguishable from just being higher level.

That's my criteria I'm using for my powers. When someone eventually rolls a one in a fight with Seiryu, I'll be describe how they begin to fail, but then suddenly snap instead to a perfect strike, as Seiryu winks at them. So that the player can go, "Wait, what? Why did the Veiled Master turn MY one into a twenty? Is it mind games? Does he want to lose? What's going on?"

Hey, the bio isn't there to list everything about Keleran. Its there to link to the sheet, cover the basic information, as well as what puts her apart from the rest.

Sonic Damage, and that's the key. After all, to quote Temporal Accleration. 'You enter another time frame, speeding up so greatly that all other creatures seem frozen'. Keleran has learned how to manipulate time, so that her increased speed unleashing a powerful burst of sound from where she has traveled. Akin to a sonic boom, but directed and empowered by psionic energy.

Which is why it is NOT an ability to be used against players. I suppose I could always bump up how much time it takes to activate it in order to avoid it from being abused. But its not a player killer ability. Its an NPC killer ability, and what Keleran really brings to the table.

Sure, she has good psionic power, and is a strong fighter. But Seiryū is a strong fighter as well, and he brings a lot of cover for them. You know, taking people out without people know that he's acutally part of a conspiricy. He's the one you turn too when you want someone dead, and you don't care how much collateral damage there is.

Keleran on the otherhand? She's the one you send when you want to make a message when killing only a single person. She's the one you send to deal with any traitors as well. She's the one that will stand outside of castle, and throw her chakram into it in order to decapitate the king on his throne room, then walk away. You can't defend against it, as it isn't something like damaging someone via scying. Keleran is someone that can kill you without warning and without any chance of survival.

That is what makes Keleran unquie.

Quote:
How will the players know you have this artifact and what it is doing in any way other than "This guy's number's are really big."?

Hey, not every artifact has to have a unique and interesting effect. Sometimes, all you need for an artifact is something that does its job really. REALLY well. That's what the Ommimind Crystals are about. It acts as a Cataylst/Focus for Psionic powers. Its not flashy, sure. But not everything has to be flashy.

Midnight: Aright.

Temporal Bolt: Oh, cool, I get it now. Yeah. I like that.

Psionic Coup De Grace: Ok, I guess I can see it as an NPC assassination ability. But the sentence "Keleran is someone that can kill you without warning and without any chance of survival." is kinda telling. If she can pull that off once a round, it's still pretty super beast mode.

Artifact: Well, aright. Difference of approaches.

Edited Psionic Coup De Grace. Its now a once per week ability that can takes ten minutes of concentration to perform.

Hopefully that's not too far in the other direction. Like, I really want Keleran to be introduced by decapiting someone through a wall with her chakrma whilst the party is talking to them, and I really like the potential of Psionic Percise Shot.

At the same time however, I don't want to have an ability that can just instant gib a player, because that really ain't fun. I don't know, maybe I should give it a scaling factor? Say, that is she only uses the full-round action and move action combo in a turn, she still gets the automatic confirmation for the critical hit, but her critical hit modifier is cut down to x2 instead of x4. Then, if Keleran focuses for an entire minute, she can use that ability at the full x4 critial, but not the Coup De Grace?

This is tricky...

I think the Coup De Grace saving throw vs death is the main problem. Without that, you could give it lots more power in other areas. 200 Damage isn't that harsh, it's the DC 200 fort save.

Perhaps instead give it a DC 10 + 1/2 CR + Ability Mod save vs death?

Scarab Sages

I was going to feedback, but Illia beast me to it. Her concerns are similar to mine, so I won't belabor points. I will say this about that Coup power.
A power meant to kill NPC's is, in my view, unnecessary. The GM can totally just DO that. No mechanical anything required. So my advice is to save yourself a special ability and change that to something more theatric.

Concerning the crit range, that concerns me. You invested in it, heavily, but I worry about the lethality he represents. One lucky full attack and three PC's will be chunky salsa. I recognize that it is the key to your build, but I had an encounter in a meatspace game once with a similar build. It was... Frustrating.
Now, Moknkeygod's character does have fortification on him. That's good. Maybe your narrative could make clear the fact that he's a crit fisher. That way the party will be prepared for him, or at least forewarned. That way they have none to blame save themselves if they don't bring along some crit mitigation.

So Keleran is the BBEG. She's discovered that a group of heroes has decided to remove her from the scene.

They don't know exactly who she is yet, but they are learning about her organization.

Explain why she wouldn't be sitting in a corner at the local tavern where they will just have to go and dig up some local knowledge while she concentrates for ten minutes. Or any similar scenario.

I'm sorry, but unless it's once a year, and she's already used it so that it is effectively off the table, I just don't see any justification that would keep her from using the ability on the PC's at least once.

... But that defeats the point. The point of the ability is that NO ONE can resist it. That Keleran can kill anyone one, without warning, without any defence. Given enough time to set up the attack. The only way to defend yourself, is to defend against the attack, and how do you defend against an attack that comes through several walls and you can't see the attacker? (I need to work out how Keleran can see them when making the attack however).

What's the point of Keleran, if her instant death ability is a piddling DC of 56? Okay, I get that not everyone is as powerful as us, but a DC of 56 can be resisted. I have two saves myself that are automatically beat that, and one other beats it on an 8. And its not like Keleran is going to be going around, instantly killing normal humans as well. No, she's going to be decipating angels and demons and dragons with her move! Powerful, even mythical beings! Ones that the party would consider an equal, and thus be startled when their killed in one shot.

That's what Keleran is meant to bring to the table, to really make her stand out from the crowd.

I just... need to figure out a way to make it plausible why she never uses it on a player...

Well, if it's NEVER used on a player, they probably won't ever know you have it, and the whole inspiring fear thing will be meaningless. If the player isn't making the save, it's not like they'll know it's DC 200 and they totally couldn't make the save if it was targetted at them.

... Ummm. You know, you don't have to actually experience an ability itself, to get an idea of how powerful it is right? Like, the entire of this ability is to invoke the Nothing is Scarier trope

One minute, their talking to someone. It might be casual conversation with an ally, or maybe their interrogating a captive. More than likely that person is indivudally more powerful than the group, with pretty high saves to boost. Suddenly, a chakram comes spinning out of the wall, slices their head off, and vanishes back into the wall.

Boom! Instant fear. This person just one shot their ally in a single hit! How the hell did they do that? Is that damage THAT strong? Or was it a Save or Die Effect? How high must the DC be if they beat the save. And how did they manage to attack through the wall(s).

As they have other encounters with Keleran, some of these questions will eventually be brought up, but that just raiseses more questions. They learned Keleran's general damage output, but even her critical hits aren't THAT strong to instantly one shot the dude they saw earlier. They've been hit by Energy Bolt, and have a general clue about the DC's that Keleran can throw around. But those are saves that the previous guy could match, and besides this is energy damage from a psionic power or something. Nothing at all like that chakram attack, so how did they do it?

That is how Keleran inspires fear. She can one shot anyone she pleases, and they players never learn how. They learn of her capabilities elsewhere and whilst strong, it doesn't add up to this one shot potentail. And why does she never uses this on the players? What makes them so specail that they aren't targetted? Maybe its nothing, maybe its simply Keleran's choice. Is it arrogance? Does she not view them as a threat?

It its not a question of knowledge which causes fear.

But the LACK of knowledge which does so. Both in and hopefully, out of character.

Unless I roll a natural 20, there's no way I make that save, and mine are currently the highest of the PCs.

Also, if you never use it on a player, and its all contrived and complicated and such, it's not worth wasting one of your special powers on.

Scarab Sages

If I were to use the Awakene spell, by int and cha would be...
3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) = 6
3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5) = 7
.... crap. That sucks. Is there a way to get strength to count as Cha...

For what, exactly?

Intimidating Prowess gets you Strength to Intimidate.

I think I told Oterisk to use 12s for mental stats. I forget what else I told him though, and I'm not feelin well enough atm to go dig through all my PMs lookin for it.

Combine Intimidating Prowess with Disarming Threat.

Scarab Sages

Well, the plan was to involve Skald in there. I guess a cha of 23 is acceptable

... Well, it was to make her unique, but I've thought of a different way of doing things.

I'm still sad to be giving up my idea of introducing Keleran by her one-shoting someone through a wall, and the players never kind out how she does it. But I think this might be better.

Now with my Advanced Temporal Acceleration, and the fact that Mythic Temporal Acceleration allows me to bring 3 others along with me when I use it, Keleran should be able to play a role which no one else is able too. Specifically, she's the gal you want for a rapid response to a situation, or a lighting fast get it and get out operation.

Please go dig through your PM's, I've got a response needed that is holding part of my build.

Very quick post, might help you Fury.

All you have to do, is have your poor, pitiful victim in a tavern or something, and holding an orb.
He meets the party, a conversation starts, he hands them the orb as he is showing it off or something. Next moment an axe flies through the wall and kills the npc.
Player left holding the orb, its an orb that grants you an automatic save vs 1 effect.
Gm drops a line about how unlucky it was that the victim was not holding the orb when he got hit...

later on (if the player is still holding the orb) and as they are getting closer and closer to Keleran... BAM! the player holding the orb gets hit with axes flying through the wall...
Bam. Make a DC 200 fort save or die.
The player uses the orb and hes good... But the entire party is spooked to heck. They have seen the attack. Twice. It will come again. Guess they had BETTER figure out what made the attack and stop it...

Success :)
Or, if the player looses/uses the orb before hand, just dont use the attack.
Or do. Death is easily circumvented in pathfinder at levels far below ours. Its death in combat that can be especially frustrating to experience.
An example, a lvl 9 Psion can use Psionic Revivify and your good.

Also, there are abilities that can negate or at least survive something like this. Defer Fatality for instance.

So much for quick post >_>

Edit: I keep thinking about Draven ults from LoL...

.. Eh. Its a bit too convientaint for my tastes.

Besides, I've already switched it out for another ability that is hopefully still unquie.

Body Snatcher. For only being a 6 level PrC why do you have to be so complicated D:

On the plus side, about 80 lines of text and only 1 mistake that I could find... Im getting better at this ^0^

Hey Sub, you need to update. Link to Keleran and Seiryū's profiles.

It would also be convenient, Submissions, if the reference PC could be included. Pretty Please. :)
