Looking for advice on PFS Skald build

Advice

Liberty's Edge

I am looking to build a Skald for PFS play and was looking for some advice on the way to progress with it.

My initial idea for the first 5 levels would be

Race: Half-Orc

STR:18
DEX: 12
CON:14
INT: 12
WIS: 7
CHA: 14

Traits: Fate’s Favored & Community-Minded

Racial Traits: City-Raised, Orc Blood, Sacred Tatoo, Shamans Apprentice and Skilled

Level 1: Bloodrager with Aberrant bloodline
Feat: Aberrant Tumor (Greensting Scorpion familiar for the +4 initiative, with the Valet Familiar archetype to share teamwork feats)

Level 2: Skald (Fate’s Champion archetype)
Extra PFS feat: Extra Performance

Level 3: Skald
Feat: Amplified Rage

Level 4: Skald
Rage Power: Lesser Spirit Totem
Ability point: +1 DEX

Level 5: Skald
Feat: Skald’s Vigor

Any ideas on how could I improve the build? Thanks

Sovereign Court

I don't have advice at the moment as this build actually looks similar to mine, but I will say you get Extra Performance at first level instead of second.

2nd level is first level of Skald.

I am curious about skald use age in general for PFS since all our local skalds are Spellsingers.

You can save a feat by swapping out your 1st level Bloodline ability for a bloodline familiar (as per Familiar Folio). My Skald is set up similarly (but with more of a Cha focus, as I felt that Str 23 was high enough for low levels). I also took a Hedgehog familiar to compensate for dumping Wis. While Raging Song does boost your Will save, failing one in the surprise round is never a good thing.

Thanks for the advice. Didn't know that rule, u just saved me a feat.

I'm thinking that since I don't need the valet familiar until I can give him rage powers, it is not worth taking the bloodrager level till lvl 4.

One doubt I am having is if choosing "Shaman's Apprentice" over "Intimidating" as a racial abilitie. What are the benefits of the endurance feat? Doesn't look that good.

I'm just going to step out and pretend I didn't make a stupid assumption...

Sleeping in armour is great for the few scenarios that feature nighttime ambushes. It's also a prerequisite for Diehard, which is decent in combination with Skald's Vigor. Endurance+Diehard also opens up Stalwart, which is REALLY good in combination with Skald's Vigor and ways of enhancing Fighting Defensively (Crane Style, Cautious Warrior trait, etc).

I would either take it at 1 (and take Amplified Rage as your first level feat) or at 5 (taking Skald's Vigor at 1 and Amplified Rage at 5). You either want Amplified Rage online ASAP (which would be level 2), or 2nd level spells ASAP (for Heroism). It also makes sense to get your familiar on a feat level, taking Amplified Rage at the same time.

But even if I take it at 1, and get amplified rage, i am not gonna be able to share rage powers with my familiar to activate the feat until I get to skald 3, and that's not gonna be till I hit level 4. Or is just being under the effect of inspired rage considered as raging? Cause it would make sense if it does to take that bloodrager at 1.

This.

Inspired rage is considered rage.
But if you take the Bloodrager level you get a familiar and when you skald rage you can use your bloodrager stats for your boosts. Also if your familiar is a valet familiar it has all your teamwork feats for free. So you can have amplified rage up starting lv2 if you wanted to.

You get two more HP if you start with Bloodrager. Bloodrager is also probably more useful the first few levels. You can go Skald 1, then re-build as Bloodrager 1/Skald 1 at 2nd if you want. Then you're only playing one level before Amplified Rage.

If you're not going Abberrant, the Celestial bloodline familiar ability is pretty handy.

I went with a Goat familiar. An 18 Str combatant is a real threat at 3rd level, and cheap (200gp) to replace. Although mine never died despite my blasé attitude.

If you want to be LG, Holy Tactician Paladin is an option to give everyone Amplified Rage. And Uncanny Dodge means you're never flat flooted, which is the main limitation on Holy Tactician's power.
