That feel when I was supposed to make this thread last night but passed out in my chair instead.

Got somethin' a little different for you today, folks. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Jade Ripley - I'm a game developer (among other things) for Dreamscarred Press. You might remember me from projects like Path of War, Lords of the Night, or Psionic Bestiary. If you don't...well, hi. Nice to meet you, thanks for clicking the thread. This isn't awkward at all.

A little while back, I started writing some short fiction stories inspired by, and rooted in, DSP's products. One of them - Mourners - sorta grew on its own into a web serial. When the bossman asked if I was interested in attempting to publish it as a Real Actual Book, I jumped at the shot. The two of us figured, hey, it's probably around novella length, maybe we can throw in some of the other short stories and call that good.

Turns out, Mourners had reached 45,000 words when no one was looking. Oops.

For those of you who haven't read Mourners yet, we've got the first three chapters up as a free sample download; you'll find them here.

Like what you see? Already read Mourners and like the idea of a physical copy? Maybe even interested in getting a primer created for the city it takes place in? Consider funding our Kickstarter. It's been up for about fourteen hours and honestly the response already has been amazing.

Thanks for the time and the read, folks. I, and the other staff at DSP, am on deck to field your questions.

Congratulations on both the story and the Kickstarter, you're well on your way.

For what it's worth I enjoyed the first chapter and will circle back to the other two when I can steal more than 5 minutes at a time.

Thanks for the support, folks! The project is already 45% funded in the first day!

We've got lots of stretch goals planned - but we've been very careful to make sure we've set the project up for success if we hit some of our loftiest goals.

Consider checking it out and, if you like it, please spread the word!

I look forward to hearing back from ya, my friend.

Good stuff, I have concluded. Call me crazy, but it really does read like a serial. You know how to write to the format.

It's like reading a webcomic, except if the creator couldn't draw and didn't try to. And also was good at writing.

I am interested in this. Will check with my wife to see if we ca spare a few bucks (money has been a bit tight while waiting for that tax return).

No pressure, my friend. I appreciate the interest, and any shares you might give; exposure is important in the early days of a KS.

Do lemme know if you have any thoughts or feelings on what you've read!

Good to see some free chapters available. :)

Well, I'm in. Each day I only get five or so Kickstarter project updates from all the projects that are in progress, or completed, so hey, why not back another one, yeah?

Congrats on your first published fiction product, Jade.

Of course! I wouldn't want to ask folks just to fund blind. That'd be...well, kinda silly.

Glad to see ya here, my friend. I thought it might be up your alley. From the looks of things, we may just be funded faster than anticipated - hell, we might even hit stretch goals and be able to write that city primer, which would just tickle me all manner of shades of pink.

The City Primer, if the stretch goal is hit, will it be sold after the kickstarter has passed?

I've never actually backed something at a limited pledge level before.

Cross that one off the bucket list.

And we've hit initial funding! Thanks to everyone who has supported, pledged, and/or spread the word! We're on to the first stretch goal - the city primer for Shatterdown.

Yes. All products in this Kickstarter will be available through all our normal distribution channels.

With just over two days left on the Mourners: Scum of Shatterdown Kickstarter, we've hit our first stretch goal and will be writing the Shatterdown setting primer as soon as we find a better name for that idea
:p

Our second stretch goal - adding Clan Glasshammer to the city primer - is only $395 away! For fans of dwarves who want a somewhat different take on a traditional dwarven clan, or who were intrigued by what they saw of them in Mourners, consider backing, sharing, or maybe even upgrading to a higher pledge tier. For those interested in holding me legally accountable to a deadline for once in my life, also consider those things so that you may point at me and laugh.

The support for Mourners thus far - especially considering the other really cool RPG & RPG-adjacent Kickstarters going on right now - has been amazing and touching. Thank you all for making this possible for me.
