Making a Punk / Delinquent.

Advice

I'm in need of a new character since my last one turned into a god and became NPC. Within the world, there's a wide spread gang which got me thinking about making a classic punk/delinquent with a heart of gold character. You know the type; commits crimes, steals, beats people up but always seems to have an honor code and helps people from time to time.

I was think Rogue Cutpurse/Bandit mixed with Mobile Fighter but I'm open to other ideas, especially when it comes to equipment. I know I want himt o have a switchblade hidden on him but beyond that, I'm at a loss.

I would take a look at the Brawler with the Enforcer feat

Steelbreaker brawler that grabs a quarterstaff made from a large iron pipe with some wrapping over the middle.

He ain't got time for all this fancy silver and cold iron junk. He just smashes things good.

"I came here to beat some buggers with a pipe quarter staff and drink beer, looks like we are all out of beer."?

In terms of flavor, you can generally look towards slayer, rogue, and brawler.

Maybe some urban ranger and urban barbarian too.

All of those tend to be good for a less refined style, and their strength can be more one picked up by getting into a ton of fights.

Intimidating Prowess seems like a good choice for a punk.

Improvised Weapon Use, bar stool beat down mayhaps?

Studded leather, jacked, and palm-aide hair for the win?

Studded leather armor with armor spikes. Be a brawler, carry a pipe and a pair of cesti.

Mohawk or liberty spikes for bonus points, double the points if you are a gnome and have neon hair.

Everyone knows that he should have a proper pompadour

Can we cast iron beard on that?

So...just going to rant on about brawler.

I can think of three rather appropriate styles: 2 handed with the pipe, pummeling style with unarmed strikes, and outslug style with the cestus.

With the quarterstaff, its main advantage is 2 handed power attack on all attacks. While it doesn't qualify for close weapon training...the extra damage for 2 handing always outstrips that by a few points on each hit. So it could be worth considering. A nice, basic "I just wanna hit the thing" style.

Pummeling style's main advantages are piercing DR and pseudo pounce. You are pretty much with unarmed strikes though, which is its own can of worms. This style is more for overwhelming force.

The last suggestion would be outslug style with the cestus (which is basically a spiked gauntlet, but with better crit). This style doesn't have pounce...but may somewhat remove the need for it. When you have all the feats, it lets you get lunge for no penalties, and it can allow you to move 10' with a 5' step. Combined, that allows you full attack enemies 20' away. You get similar attack area as a reach weapon user with lunge. Your extra 5' on 5' steps basically similates reach for when you are on the attack. Of course, that is only for medium...but hey, you lack the huge doughnut seen with reach users when they enlarge person, so +/-.

Overall, outslug style makes it fairly easy to full attack, and the strange 5' steps have plenty of tactical applications. For instance, you can get into flanking position with ease, or back away from an opponent and force them to make a move action to attack you. It is much easier to engage giants and other big creatures without provoking AoOs. This style is for those that want a certain sense of fast, agile attacker- a different flavor from the other two, but it might catch more of the rogue flair.

Easy....Pick ANY CLASS and Roleplay his personality as you described.

Any class is better than Core Rogue even with archetypes. At least go Unchained for "some" viablity if you choose to go with Rogue.

A character's Personality is hardly limited to what class is written on the character sheet.

A class is just a collection of game mechanics that allow you to portray your character. It isn't a definition of who your character is.

I can make a slayer, inquisitor, investigator, alchemist, or bard a better "Rogue" than a Rogue. I can make a Barbarian a better fighter than the Core Fighter class.

I could easily fill that description with even NPC classes. As this is not really a description of a class but of personality.

While this is true, certain classes would be....difficult to work with that concept. Not necessarily impossible, but definitely challenging.

A Paladin is hardly the class to play for someone who "commits crimes, steals, beats people up" even if they have an honor code.

Similarly, the Wizard (a class mostly associated with books and studying) also goes against the grain.

Further, saying "play any class" doesn't offer much actual help to the OP.

I agree with Brawler seeming to be the most, out of the box, natural fit. Other classes (Fighter, Rogue, Slayer) also fit, as well as some archetypes of other classes.
