Interest Check Dungeon World AP

Recruitment

After reading several wonderful Dungeon World PbPs on different forums I've decided I want to get in on the action, anyone else interested? I'd likely be adapting one of the Paizo APs just for a starting point but I'd be flexible on that idea.

I'd be into this idea, depending on the AP. I'm a huge fan of Dungeon World.

Well one is better than none. Anyone else? Bumpty bump

This place doesn't seem very into Dungeon World as a whole - My last two hacks were met with no attention at all. :(

MooshyBooshy has done a couple of them, including this new Apocalypse World game he just started up, and I think he usually posts on Reddit to get some attention. The Dungeon World Tavern on Google+ could also be a good bet to draw in some new blood.

Huh, yeah I might throw up a post on either of those. You may be right about not having many dungeon world fans.

Alright, made a post mentioning it over in Dungeon World Tavern on Google Plus, hopefully that'll stir up a bit and maybe we'll get more interest here. From what I've seen DW is absolutely excellent for PbP, since it's lacking the traditional initiative and such.

Absolutely. I was going to try and run DW eventually, so I'm all for playing.

Totally in! My RL group is dying on the vine and I need me some DW time. PbP fits in with busy schedules too.

I'd LOVE to play in an AP (not Carrion Crown tho) via DW... mashup of my two favourite RPG things!

Looking forward to seeing some more interest. :D

Woah! That worked well! Looks like plenty more interest

I should add that I don't care about which AP to use.

And to that I'll add that I am totally unfamiliar with the Pathfinder setting.

Not that you've asked, but I'd love to try Kingmaker, Serpent's Skull, Iron Gods or Giantslayer, as I have no experience with any of them, other than drooling over the covers and the initial promo blurbs.

I've played through Carrion Crown, Jade Regent, and the first half or so of Council of Thieves. I've been DM for Shackled City, Savage Tide, Reign of Winter and also Carrion Crown.

That said, I'll be happy to play in whatever you decide to run, save for Carrion Crown.

Ooohhh... serpents skull... I've played a bit of the start of that one and own the first book. I could do that one. Always felt it didn't work well with PF rules. Any objections?

Also, a note about canon:

Forget it.

I am a big fan of what I call "canon lite", meaning that where PCs make choices about themselves or their backgrounds canon steps the hell out of the way. Things established in game are true, things established in paizo books (including the AP itself) are probably true, but contradict at will.

I would love pirate DW.

What's on the table for Classes/Playbooks? I can think of quite a few that would fit in really well with this.

Well the basics for certain, if you can send me/link me/help me find any others I'll look them over and be happy to ok or not ok them. I'm fairly new to DW so I'd love to look at some new playbooks.

There's a pretty cohesive list on the subreddit. I haven't updated it in a few weeks so there's probably some things that aren't on there, but it's likely a good starting place. (I'm still working on figuring out a better format for it, but it's more or less passable for now.)

I'm not super familiar with *World games either, but I was thinking a cleric. They're my typical go-to and I have a character in mind.

Wow there is a lot of those. If you are intending to use one not available freely I would ask that you run the moves you're intending to use by me for my approval, but I'm pretty open about my fantasy in general

I think I'd like to step out of my element and play a Thief, possibly the City Thief for more of that lovely fish-out-of-water feel.

How do you feel about Drow or Tieflings as PC races?

I wouldn't mind it, though you might get some issues from learned people regarding the drow (most people don't know the drow exist), and perhaps some issues from more unlearned people for the tiefling, unless we decide different than the norm for Golarion

I'd prefer a Tiefling anyways... Race is far more about RP in DW than stats anyways. Let's see how things pan out as far as other players. :D

So tentative characters are a Tiefling Theif and a Cleric of some kind. Awesome!

I'm itching to play a Paladin. I'll read up on the Pathfinder pantheon later and post tonight a rough concept at the least.

Alright, I think I'm going to want to have characters posted by Friday, I'll get the game started Monday and ask character questions through the weekend.

What kind of posting pace are you expecting? I'm comfortable with 1/day, maybe a few quickie responses. More than that is beyond me.

Quick check-in. Are we posting here, or will there be a campaign thread going up later?

There will be a campaign thread and an OOC thread later. I expect a minimum of around 1 post per two days but slowdowns now and then are no real problem. Dungeon World is great for a flexible posting schedule so I'm not too worried but yes I do expect fairly consistent posting at around that pace.

I had an idea of drafting up a playbook for a Familiar. The basic idea would be traveling with a Witch/Wizard/Warlock and being a class based around supporting them, having some magic, and having some scouting abilities.

But since no one has proposed a spellcaster who might have such a creature, and since recruitment is closing on Friday, I may just do something simpler like a Druid or Shaman or something.

Finishing a sheet with this alias

Huzzah! I love having characters to look over! I'll have some questions for you to help with worldbuilding and such too.

Will work on filling out Mock's profile tomorrow morning!

City Thief Playbook can be found here

Playbook perused and Approved. Looks pretty balanced with the standard thief, just losing poison for more stealth and acrobatics.

I'm done now

Discussion thread is up, going to be periodically posting a few leading questions for characters to help you get into the headspace before we start. Aiming to have first gameplay post go live monday.

I'm sadly going to take a pass on this one - I don't super have a good character concept coming together.

Seeing this turnout, though, I have to admit to being more than slightly tempted to run a different AP...

Aww... I'd be sad to see you bail on it man. If you're doing another I'd be in as a character for certain.

Work's been a bit nuts this week so I haven't had as much time to read up on things as I wanted, and I'm not really familiar at all with Serpent's Skull so I'm mostly just staring at the character options and blinking a lot, haha. But I do super love playing with you and think this is a great idea.

It looks like submissions so far are Thief / Cleric / Paladin, so I could probably make it work with some kind of heavier magic character - some sort of mage or wizard? Or even Druid. Let me see what I can put together for tomorrow!

Any preference (open question) on a second game? I was thinking Rise of the Runelords because I'm most familiar with it, but I could also see Curse of the Crimson Throne or Legacy of Fire being great.

Oh I would love Rise of the Runelords. I have a character I've been thinking of wanting to play that one with that doesn't work too well in PF rules that would be fun to do in DW. It's ok if you're a bit slow on stuff, I really understand work being crazy (I recently got downsized and am job hunting so it's all gravy at the moment for me).

Done(-ish)!

May look into a few non-playbook bonds, if you don't mind, Ryuko?

Ok, I threw together a class and made an alias. Link to the playbook is in my alias. Let me know if anything should be changed. It's entirely scavenged things from Class Warfare and other playbooks, so I think it might be fine.

Oooh, what's the character premise?

(Psst Tom, fyi your Load should be +Str modifier, not +Str score. It works differently from HP.)

Couple of assorted items:

1. Ryuko, do you mind linking the "wonderful DW PbP's" you mentioned? My fave is here.

2. Is there any way to "subscribe" to a thread so I get emails/pings etc. when a new post lands?

3. Looking forward to shenanigans with y'all!

I don't mind any bonds you decide, I'm not a stickler for only the playbook bonds or anything.

I like Rhys, more of an offensive mage without quite as much flexibility unless you pick up ritual, plus no spell list to worry about, which is nice.

The concept I've wanted to play in that is.. well kind of a reluctant hero type. James Jackson being the name. The kind of guy who's a blacksmith, picks up a weapon he was making for someone else during the goblin raid because he's worried about his family and then keeps on doing the hero thing because well... someone has to. And these people around are his friends. But he's not a man interested in fame, fortune, power, or even really becoming a better fighter. He's just a really strong guy who's powerfully LG and can't let these bad things happen to good people.

One of them is this one though I also read the one you linked and loved it.

Unfortunately I don't believe the paizo boards have a subscribe function. It'd be a nice addition.

Cool, glad you like him! I'll pop over to discussion in a bit. And yeah, I'm definitely not much for the spell lists aspect. I'm playing a Shaman in my in-person game now (after playing a Thief last game) and I've found that I greatly prefer having abilities to spells.

Also, for both you and anyone else here, Runelords Recruitment is up

You can subscribe to Paizo threads! There's an RSS link on the top right hand side of the campaign gameplay thread. Or there should be.
